Perks and Programs

We asked Zendesk, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Collective Health: Employees get an upgrade from the status quo in a people-first healthcare experience, Collective Health. They call one number, visit one website, and have one login for all their medical, dental, and vision needs.
  • 16-week parental leave: Zendesk offers all employees—regardless of gender, parental role, and circumstance (including adoption)—16 weeks of parental leave.
  • Professional Development Program: Zendesk offers a $1500 USD learning balance annually for full-time employees to pursue external learning opportunities such as professional conferences and courses to develop new technical skills.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program: Our ESPP allows eligible employees to use payroll contributions to purchase company stock at a discount. Our plan offers an 18-month offering period that has three 6-month purchase periods. The stock purchases take place on the last day of each purchase period (subject to the other terms of the ESPP). At the end of a purchase period, the stock will be purchased at 85% of the closing price of the Common Stock on the New York Stock Exchange on either the first day of the offering period or last business day of the purchase period within the offering period, whichever is less.
  • Take what you need PTO: We believe that when people have good work-life integration, they are more successful. This is modeled throughout Zendesk with our "take what you need" PTO policy.
  • Weekly Volunteering: Zendesk offers weekly organized volunteering activities in our communities. This includes meal service, tutoring local youth, and bingo with seniors. We also encourage employees to participate in skills-based community engagement such as using engineering resources to build products that assist our low-income neighbors. In addition, Zendesk provides educational opportunities for employees to learn about issues that impact their neighborhoods so they can better understand and engage with them.
  • Wellness Program: Our new Wellness at Zendesk program was created to help the Zendesk community become aware of and make choices that promote a healthy balance of the mind, body, and spirit. Our programming is based on local employees' interests, celebrating each office's unique culture. Some of our most popular offerings include yoga and bootcamp classes, healthy cooking contests, lunch & learn sessions, and mindfulness meditation groups.
  • Free membership to One Medical: San Francisco-based employees and their significant others have access to same-day doctor appointments and direct email access to doctors.
  • Blue Board Experiences: When our employees perform well—by closing a big deal, referring an excellent candidate, and more—we reward them with their choice of memorable Blueboard experiences. Whether they select a romantic getaway for 2, tandem skydiving, or a farm-to-table cooking class, being rewarded with memorable experiences helps motivate and engage teams.
  • Regular Town Halls: Open and honest communication between our executive team and our various organizations is paramount to our success as it aids in building a strong relationship based on trust. In addition to high-level updates and presentations from Zendesk leaders, employees are encouraged to ask questions—either anonymously or under their own name—to get real-time, impromptu responses from leadership at Town Hall. Our C-staff makes sure every birthday and anniversary is celebrated and spotlights the best (and most ridiculous) things to happen at Zendesk globally. Having access to leaders allows employees to feel truly heard and valued by the people making decisions about the company’s future.

Workforce Diversity

The relationships we have with our customers, employees, partners and community are more important to us than the software we make.

How to Get Hired

We asked Zendesk, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At Zendesk, we foster a diverse and inclusive workplace, but there are some commonalities that all successful Zendeskians share. It’s not just our product that is customer service-focused; we like to hire people who bring a positive, customer service mindset to their day-to-day. We are all about collaboration and learning from each other, within teams and between teams. So if you’re excited to brainstorm and think differently with some other awesome people you’ll do well here. You’ll thrive if you’re community-minded, as we offer a ton of volunteer opportunities for our employees to get involved in. We are always looking for people who will work hard and be great team players, but who also don’t take themselves too seriously; we make time for impromptu dance parties, weekly happy hours, puppy live cams and standing-desk races.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Our brand starts with our employees, so the most important thing we look for in candidates is that they share our company values. On top of that, we definitely recommend that you do your research; check out our videos, read about us in the news, and even download a free trial of our product to really know what we’re all about. We do like to read cover letters, so take a moment to tell us why you think Zendesk is the place for you. It’s also a good idea to check us out on LinkedIn, engage with us on social media, and follow our Zendesk and Relate by Zendesk blogs.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We are hiring across the board! Obviously we’re a software company, so we’re always looking for talented engineers. We’re also looking to hire Account Executives to continue to grow our impressive customer base, as well as plenty of Support and Customer Success roles to make sure all those customers keep loving Zendesk! Check out our careers page; we likely have an opening in almost every department.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Check out our careers site and apply to a role that looks interesting! If there looks to be a fit, one of our recruiters will reach out to start the process. We love candidates who are eager to hit the ground running, so coming with an understanding of industry conditions and other relevant trends is a great way to show us you’re serious about the position. Following us on social, reading our Relate blog, and even attending one of our company events all will give you a good idea of #LifeAtZendesk.
