  • Health is Wealth: Responding to our employees’ requests to help them work and live more healthily, in 2016 we implemented a healthy living initiative with sessions for employees to learn new ways to live a healthy lifestyle (e.g., work-life balance, healthy eating, sustainability). After a positive reception at our Ames HQ in 2014, the Dallas, Scottsdale and Seattle offices received their own fleets of bikes, allowing employees to get a bit of exercise or cruise around town during free time. We also continue to work with local gyms to offer discounts for employees, and in December we partnered with the company 24 Hour Fitness to offer discounted membership plans for employees who work remotely and don’t have access to our onsite office gyms.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Committee: Workiva cultivates a work environment that encourages fairness, teamwork and respect among all employees. We value diversity of backgrounds, beliefs and interests, and we recognize them as an important source of intellectual thought, varied perspective and innovation. We support employee-driven affinity groups which support the recruitment and retention of diverse employees. Our Affinity Groups have taken an active role in maintaining a work atmosphere in which people of diverse backgrounds, beliefs and interests may grow personally and professionally. Our affinity groups include Women in Tech, Parenting, Veterans, Ethnic Diversity in Tech, and LGBTQ+. Fostering a diverse workplace provides an inclusive environment for our employees, thereby increasing engagement, empowerment and satisfaction. We believe this environment best positions us to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Part of Our Communities: Workiva strives to improve the places where we live and work. We offer paid Volunteer Time Off, and employees form groups for volunteering and community service. At our corporate headquarters, employees raised money for Sole Hope, a healthy living organization in Uganda. In Denver, employees volunteered at the Denver Rescue Mission, donated to Vietnam Veterans of America, and hosted clothing drives for the Salvation Army. In Scottsdale, employees adopted a family and collected presents during the holiday season. In Chicago, employees raised money for The Greater Chicago Food Depository. In 2016, through fun runs, sports and game tournaments and pledges, we raised $70,000 for United Way, which was up 23 percent from the prior year.
  • Investing in STEM and Continuing Education: Investing in STEM and continuing education means investing in current employees and the future workforce. Employees can access the Workiva Learn Center for content related to soft skills, general management, and leadership to keep growing in their field. In 2016, our employees spent 78,000 hours on continuing education. Additionally, Workiva supports educational activities that take place in our communities by funding and staffing University and High School hackathons and educational events. Our Women in Tech group volunteers at Girls Who Code camps. We sponsor the Des Moines, Iowa tech community workspace, Gravitate. Our developers also participate in a variety of charity coding events around the country, like HackDSM, a charity that gathers developers to build websites and apps for nonprofits in 48 hours.
  • Modernizing the Workforce: Workiva employees have access to the latest technology in order to do their jobs the best they can, from wherever they work best. New laptops and wireless internet devices mean employees can work from home or while on the road, which helps create an excellent work-life-balance. All offices feature modern amenities and wireless internet. Employees are connected on a secure network, so they can work from any office and be instantly online. Additionally, Workiva employees use our Wdesk platform so they enjoy the same technology features at work – speed, access, and sharing – they use in their personal lives. Even though Wdesk feels like a familiar consumer application, it's powered by one of the fastest, safest, and most sophisticated data-management engines available today.
  • Growing Benefits for a Growing Company: In January of 2016, after a recommendation from our Human Asset Management advisory group, we expanded our parental leave policy from 10 up to 15 days paid leave. All new Workiva parents - biological or adoptive - can take this time within the first six months of the birth or adoption, without having to dip into any vacation time. We also offer an HSA match, which offers a $1-$1 match up to $2500 for employees enrolled in our high deductible health plan, a flex spending account with a $500 rollover, as well as TelaDoc, a webchat offering virtual doctor visits. We introduced a graduated PTO schedule which rewards employees for their tenure with the company, and a new Employee Stock Purchase Program for qualified employees.
  • Town Hall Meetings With Executive Management: In order to maintain open lines of communication, encourage transparency and support our culture of listening to employees’ ideas and needs, the Workiva CEO and other members of the Executive Management team hold open forum meetings at each of our 16 offices where employees are free to ask questions about the company and engage in dialog about whatever is on their mind.
  • Intern Program: The Workiva intern program grows annually. In 2016, 147 graduate and undergraduate interns were employed and provided with group mentoring opportunities, professional development workshops, team building events and challenges, and learning opportunities. Since school comes first, we offer flexible hours during the school year and full-time opportunities during the summer. Interns participate in company-wide events throughout the year and are a significant, contributing part of our company culture. Many will stay on as full-time employees after graduating.
  • Human Asset Management Program: Human Asset Management, the Workiva approach to supporting our employees, led to Workiva winning seven best workplace awards in 2016. Human Asset Management is a “No-HR” approach and relies on a philosophy of putting our employees first, listening to their ideas, responding to their needs, and encouraging everyone to take ownership of their experiences at Workiva. This approach ensures that action and programs are not dictated from the top, but rather driven by employees in all levels and areas of Workiva. This extra care for our employees gets passed on to our customers every day, which is evidenced by our 95 percent customer satisfaction score – among the highest in any industry.
  • Discounts: Workiva offers corporate car rental and cell phone discounts available to all employees with several major vendors. Employees are able to utilize pre-purchased taxi vouchers while traveling or at a work-related event. Additionally, we have negotiated discounted memberships with several fitness centers in locations that have a significant Workiva employee population. Free breakfast and snacks are provided at all offices at no charge, and our corporate headquarters houses a gourmet cafe and offers daily lunches at an affordable price for all employees.
