Perks and Programs

We asked West Bend Mutual Insurance Company to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Terrace Cafe "Subsidized: At our home office, associates and their guests can enjoy a hot breakfast and lunch daily in our Terrace Cafe. From burgers and french fries to asparagus risotto and tenderloin the options are limitless. This can all be enjoyed for a relatively low price as West Bend subsidizes 60% of overall food operating expenses. The subsidy for 2018 will be close to $1,000,000. Our Middleton office also offers subsidized food options.
  • Trader's Convenience Store: With a barista on staff, order lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolates, smoothies, and other great drinks right at West Bend! The store also sells sandwiches, salads, other “take out” food, chips, ice cream, candy, gift cards, and essential items like aspirin. Open daily for the convenience of our home office associates.
  • Health & Wellness Center: The onsite Health & Wellness Center is open to all West Bend associates, as well as covered retirees and their family members up to the age of 65. Spouses and dependents (ages 2 and up) covered by West Bend's health insurance are also eligible. The clinic offers a wide range of primary and acute care services including the managing of chronic health conditions. The clinic is staffed with a full-time and part-time physician's assistant and three medical assistants.
  • Artwork: West Bend has the 2nd largest art collection in the state of Wisconsin. We support our local art community by only purchasing from Wisconsin artists. The pieces are moved throughout the building on a regular basis for greater visibility. Two stainless steal and bronze appaloosas "wild horses" recently joined our prairie standing 12 feet tall and 2,000 pounds each are the most recent additions to our collection of outdoor sculptures.
  • Fitness: Associates, spouses and dependents over the age of 16 can take their workouts to our state of the art Fitness Center. Fitness classes and personal trainers are available to help get their workout routine started. New in 2018, we have added five fitness stations to our three miles of walking trails. Stations include a sit up/leg raise station, pull up station, leg stretch/push up station, hand walk/body dip station, and body raise/reverse pull up station. We also added a basketball hoop, a disc golf course and formal ballroom dance classes.
  • Honor Flight Guardian Program: West Bend believes in the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight mission and wants to help associates honor veterans within their immediate families. The $500 guardian fee is paid for by West Bend for an associate or an associate's spouse to accompany a parent or parent-in-law on an Honor Flight.
  • Associate Vegetable & Flower Gardens: Dozens of garden plots are available exclusively for associates and their families. A $20 investment and the cost of seeds and time allows associates to enjoy the fruits of their labor every year along with the tranquility and rejuvenation that comes when working with Mother Earth.
  • Bank/ATM: A local bank branch office, as well as an ATM are located onsite for our associates convenience.
  • PTO Sharing: Each year associates can donate unused paid time off to a bank that is used for associates that have unexpected life circumstances.
  • Military Leave: Associates required to serve in the armed forces are eligible for five days of paid leave annually to be used for deployment or yearly service requirements. Our director of sales for Wisconsin and Minnesota, was presented in 2018 with a Patriot Award by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Committee representative Kenneth Schuetz in recognition of extraordinary support of a company associate serving in the Wisconsin Air National Guard. This honor is presented to employers who not only hire Guard and Reserve members, but demonstrate superior support to the military employee and his/ her family.
