Perks and Programs

We asked Wayfair to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Learn@Work Program: Wayfair’s Learn@Work program offers classes on everything from Excel and SQL tutorials to negotiation tactics and communication best practices – with an average of 10 trainings each week for every role, skillset and level. The Learning and Development team regularly revamps their training catalog to ensure they are filling gaps, meeting needs, and investing in Wayfair’s most important resource: its people. In addition to the variety of courses offered through Learn@Work, the company also created three month-long programs to target learners at all levels in their effort to become better managers and have a positive impact on the organization. Management behavior scores improved by approximately 20% for those who completed the program, and upward feedback ratings were also higher in annual reviews.
  • Women@Work and Women in Tech Programs: Wayfair’s Women@Work group is an entirely employee-driven initiative, which aims to provide female employees with internal resources like networking and mentorship through regular meetings, panels, and discussions. In addition to engaging hundreds of Wayfair employees, the initiative has extended beyond the walls of Wayfair as the team has joined forces with other Boston companies like HubSpot, TripAdvisor and Cimpress to promote and support women and diversity in the tech industry. Through the Women@Work group, a dedicated Women in Technology group was recently formed, which aims to provide similar networking and mentorship opportunities for the growing number of women who work in technology roles at Wayfair.
  • Wayfair Labs Program for Engineers: Wayfair Labs is a three-month program/interview process for entry-level engineers, which offers hands-on experience with projects across different focuses that participants can own from start to finish. Employees learn relevant skills and have the opportunity to choose their own path within the engineering team - and many of the projects completed by this team are widely implemented at the company. In 2016, Wayfair set a goal to ensure that future Wayfair Labs teams be comprised of at least 50% women. January’s class was 70% women, and early results suggest it was one of the company’s strongest class yet. Wayfair Labs is one example of many enrichment programs that the company offers to specific teams.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility Program: Over the last 13 years, Wayfair has worked closely with organizations that play a meaningful role in creating safe and comfortable living spaces. Wayfair’s global nonprofit partner is Habitat for Humanity International, for which Wayfair has raised more than $1 million since 2012 across more than 206,000 individual donations, and has donated more than 12,850 pieces of furniture and décor to ReStore outlets. Wayfair also facilitates in-office programs with local partners such as Citizen Schools, which invites students from low-income communities to the office for regular mentorship and tutoring opportunities, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters, where employees can travel to local elementary schools to mentor students. Employees are also given the option to take one paid day each year for community service.
  • Employee-Driven Charitable Giving Program: Formed in 2004, the Employee-Driven Charitable Giving Program is an entirely employee-driven and company-enabled initiative that encourages employees to give back to their communities. The program allocates funds to nonprofit agencies and charitable causes that employees are invested in through personal commitments of time and money. Since 2004, the initiative has supported over 100 organizations, including the Dana Farber Institute for the Boston Marathon, where a team of Wayfair marathon runners fundraise for the Dana Farber Institute, as well as the Massachusetts Special Olympics, for which the company helps fund an annual “Over the Edge” fundraiser where employees rappel down the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, MA.
  • Health and Wellness Program: Wayfair offers a dozen complementary health and wellness classes each week, spanning both fitness and mindfulness sessions – including Pilates, Barre, Yoga and Guided Meditation. Wayfair also offers regular Self Defense Training courses for men and women, with R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) trainings, as well as Krav Maga self-defense trainings. In addition, every Wayfair employee is provided with a sit-to-stand desk, as well as bi-weekly fresh produce deliveries and free snacks. The company also encourages health and wellness outside the office, with discounts to local gyms and Hubway bike rentals.

Wayfair values people who are curious and think outside of the box. Share your story. Wayfair wants to know how you have dreamed big, taken chances, stumbled, and succeeded.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
