Perks and Programs

We asked United Shore to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Onsite Fitness Center: United Shore has an onsite state-of-the-art fitness, available to team members on a daily basis. Equipped with a plethora of exercise equipment, machines and free weights, "UFitness" allows team members to stay fit - as people work out before, during and after work hours.
  • Free/Discounted Tickets: United Shore team members have access to free tickets to Detroit Pistons home games throughout the NBA season. Team members can also take advantage of discounted ticket vouchers to United Shore Professional Baseball League games, a new minor league system, and concerts at DTE Energy Music Theatre while it's open during the summer and fall seasons.
  • United Shore Fair: An annual tradition used to celebrate hard work, United Shore hosts an annual company fair that is private to team members and their friends and family. Everyone in attendance can enjoy free games, free food and drinks, and unlimited rides. This is an outstanding and unique way that United Shore continues to promote fun, friendship and work-life balance for its team members in a memorable way!
  • Onsite Starbucks: As an annex within the subsidized gourmet cafeteria (UCafe) and convenience store, United Shore has an onsite Starbucks for team members. Great for getting a jump-start on the day or for socializing with team members from throughout the company, this Starbucks offers a full menu without the morning hassle of going to a store before work!
  • UBike Bicycle Sharing Program: United Shore team members have the ability to rent out bicycles in the lobby to ride around the company's campus, or even around town! Whether someone is looking to enjoy the nice weather and sites over a break, find a fun way to go out to lunch with friends, or simply wants to get a mid-day cardio workout, the UBikes are a great perk!
  • 3 p.m. Dance Parties: Each week, United Shore hosts a big, company-wide dance party on Thursday at 3 p.m. Hundreds of team members from throughout the company gather on the dance floor for 10-15 minutes of shakin' it out. The theme or structure varies all the time - you'll have organized line dances, conga lines, "musical chairs" contests, karaoke competitions, freestyle dancing, etc. These dance parties are a great way for people to break up the day, recharge to finish the day and week strong, and are beneficial from a health and wellness standpoint as well!
  • "Firm 40" Work-Life Balance Philosophy: In an industry that is notoriously known for logging long hours, United Shore team members are able to enjoy a "Firm 40" hour workweek. While some competing companies require their employees to work 60-80 hour weeks, including weekends, United Shore team members are expected to put forth a focused effort for eight hours a day, Monday through Friday, and then enjoy their evenings and weekends with family and friends.
  • Escape Room: As escape rooms have become increasingly popular as a corporate team-building exercise throughout the country in recent years, United Shore is one of the first companies to build their own in-house escape room. Designed and operated as a mortgage-related experiential training experience and team-building exercise, the United Shore Escape Room puts groups of 6-12 people in a room that is fitted with a series of challenges, mysteries and puzzles that each group must overcome within a 45-minute time window in order to “escape”.

    How to Get Hired

We asked United Shore for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

United Shore actively pursues candidates who possess a strong work ethic and positive attitude, and have the ability to fulfill his/her role within a team concept. Great candidates are coachable, driven, and take ownership over their work.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Prospective team members should do their research on our company – know what United Shore's values are and what makes us different than other companies. Be creative, offer outside-the-box ideas and solutions, and show that your personality makes you a great fit for our unique culture! In addition to possessing the technical skill set needed to do the job, they should be sure to ask questions and display confidence.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Our goal is to attract a lot of recent college graduates, whether they have mortgage experience or not. We've had great success taking fresh minds and tailoring them to our culture at United Shore, as well as the mortgage industry. We want to connect with recent college graduates who have degrees in finance or accounting, with GPA’s above 3.0, who may have never considered the mortgage industry as a career path. United Shore offers a tremendous amount of positions in sales, underwriting and IT. Once these candidates visit our headquarters to meet with us and get an understanding of the business, they realize that it really aligns with what they went to school for.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates should visit our website and network with people who work here. Sixty-five percent of our new hires are referrals of current team members. Directly contact someone who works here, make onsite visits, watch our videos, get a tour of our headquarters, check out our social media pages, visit us at any career fairs. Come see us!
