What You Should Know

How would you like access to a discounted luxury vacation home in places like Orlando, Aspen or Palm Springs? Even better: How about getting to use one for free during an extra week of vacation time?

Employees at Toll Brothers Inc., a  national homebuilding company, enjoy just such perks — and plenty more. Employees can use the company’s vacation homes for a fraction of the cost, and on their 10th, 20th and 25th anniversaries, the digs are free for a weeklong trip.

“We build luxury homes that not everyone can afford,” one employee says, “and it's a nice perk to be able to invite your friends and family to stay at a luxury home for a week with a private pool in the backyard in a great location.”

The vacation stays are just part of the allure at Toll Brothers. Eighty-four percent of employees here say they have special and unique benefits, which range from on-site oil changes and stock options to 22 days off after the first year.

Beyond the perks, though, Toll Brothers resonates with people for many other reasons. There’s a friendly culture that 95 percent of employees experience, and also a widespread feeling they’re given a lot of responsibility to do their jobs.

“There is a real sense of pride, friendship, professionalism and fun that you can sense on your first day here,” one employee says. “When you walk around the building, people don't just say hello, they stop to have a quick chat with you.”

Employees here also feel like their work — building a wide range of residential communities — has an impact. At least nine out of 10 say they feel like they make a difference and that they feel pride in what they accomplish.

Most Toll Brothers employees feel supported by management and agree that the upper levels are steering the company in the right direction for the long haul. In fact, 94 percent of employees say management is honest and ethical in its business practices.

“The divisional president and divisional senior vice president both started where I am today and readily share their time and experience with me when requested,” one employee says. “They openly debate ideas, give them a fair shake and do their best not to be biased. I can honestly say I love this company.”

Employee Quotes

Great Place to Work® collected feedback from Toll Brothers, Inc. employees via an anonymous survey. Following are common reasons employees said they appreciate their workplace.

"Almost everyone I have worked with has been a pleasure. In most sales jobs, sales people are so competitive against each other. All of the sales people in Toll Brothers genuinely want the other to succeed. It is a great to have a team for support.  "

"Toll Brothers builds communities; not just homes, so there is a lot more planning involved for the long term and they invest more in their communities which is a positive economic attribute."

"Our company has several "guest houses" throughout the U.S. that employees get the opportunity to use. This is a tremendous way to see the products we design and an affordable way to vacation.  "

"I am proud of what we buy, build, and the finished product we deliver to our homebuyers. It is very easy for builders to compromise on their brand and their quality of product they deliver to make a cheap buck at the expense of the customer. We don't do that. "

"The people I work with on a daily basis make this a great place to work. Everyone on my team is enthusiastic and passionate about their positions. We are a team and it shows in our performance. Our leaders, down from the very top are second to none. Bob, Doug and Rick, all make themselves available for anyone in the company to contact them. Most large corporations shelter their senior executives and owners from staff ... not this company, its an open door policy and I think it's great!"

"Employees are given as much responsibility as they are willing to take and have a direct ability to determine their career advancement. "

"The employee perks are phenomenal. From the ability to rent Toll guest houses, to the monthly "fun days," you really feel like management cares about your well being from the moment you start at Toll. "

"The management and coworkers are super friendly and act really as a family team. Regardless of your position, they support their employees if they need to."

"A fully completed Toll community is a beautiful thing to see. It's unique to live in a town/city/state that you are literally helping build. Not many places people work have a tangible/visual impact like that."

"This company has amazing vibes. I feel as though we are a team or family working together, regardless if it is someone from a different division or not. I look forward to going to work each day which is extremely important to me as I wish to work somewhere and be happy."
