What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
A prospective employee should always be enthusiastic and have a passion for selling and service. We look for candidates that demonstrate their flexibility, ability to deal with ambiguity and adaptability. Gumby is The Container Store's unofficial mascot because flexibility is highly valued here. The Container Store is a very communicative and collaborative place to work. We look for candidates who show us that they can be a team player. We also look for thought-provoking, enthusiastic people with outside interests, who let their personalities shine through during the interview process!
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
We love to hire our customers! We find that customers are already enthusiastic brand representatives, are familiar with our products, and are passionate about customer service. In addition, The Container Store likes to hire friends and family of current employees, so if at all possible, ask an employee at The Container Store to refer you. It will benefit them, too since company employees receive $400 for every successful referral. And do your homework. Show that you've researched our company and the job. Go beyond the website: read our Foundation Principles, visit our stores, check out our blog, and follow us on social media. We invest a lot in our people and expect prospective employees to invest time researching if we are the right fit for them as well.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
We're particularly invested in finding top tech talent. As we revamp our closet design system, continue to support our store systems and bolster our e-commerce site, we are focused on finding talented Developers, Quality Assurance Engineers, and UX Designers to add to our team.
What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?
Getting hired starts with submitting an application online. Give yourself enough time to complete our questions centered around why you want to work here. Our interview process is very intentional and involves several interviews with a variety of managers and peers. For retail positions, we hold group interviews in our retail stores on a regular basis.
