Perks and Programs

We asked The Boston Consulting Group, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Diversity & Inclusion Networks: Our unique ability to approach client problems with a blank slate and identify novel solutions that yield transformative change stems directly from the wide range experiences, backgrounds, and interests of our employees. Furthermore, diversity is one of our core founding values: we target a diverse employee pool through various programs in order to build a firm that is representative of the society in which we live and do business. We also emphasize our strong inclusive staff affiliation networks, including Women@BCG; LGBT Network; Ethnic Diversity Networks; Veterans Network and the newly-introduced Disability Network, that allows all BCG U.S. staff to broaden their understanding about people with disabilities.
  • Industry-leading Benefits Package: BCG provides very generous employee benefits. Without paying any monthly premium, all BCG employees, regardless of role or tenure, receive comprehensive health care coverage with an average co-pay of $5 or less. Under this health care plan, emergency room visits are even free. Benefits include access to U.S. board-certified doctors who can treat many medical issues by phone or video 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the same co-pay of $5 per consultation.
  • Celebration & Affiliation: Developing deeply personal, meaningful connections to other BCGers and to the firm itself is a defining part of our success. For example, in July this year BCG North America and the New York office hosted the BCG Worldwide Soccer Tournament in Brooklyn, NY. Over 300 BCGers from across North America and Europe fielded 30 teams to compete to be crowned the BCG World Champions. Other cross-office affiliation includes a regional event in Orlando, Florida, a family “staycation” in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and Community Service days.
  • Individualized Career Development through Mobility: At BCG, we provide unparalleled growth opportunities through the philosophy of "One BCG – Many Paths". We empower each of our team members to take advantage of BCG's extensive global network, from staffing assignments, geographic mobility programs, and secondments. Examples of this include our Ambassador Program which offers consulting cohorts the opportunity to live abroad and work in another BCG office for one year, and our Social Impact Secondments Program which offers one year assignments with our global partner organizations like the World Food Programme. In addition, the Business Services staff also have the opportunity to experience exciting cross-office opportunities.
  • On-Demand Virtual Learning: Our online LAB (Learning at BCG) portal gives staff a 24/7 point of access to over 1400 self-directed learning resources from our 20-plus practice areas and global initiatives, as well as programs to develop problem solving, analytical, communication, leadership and client skills. LAB is both information-rich and user friendly, rendering it an invaluable tool with which our staff can self-direct their learning needs in real time. State-of-the-art upgrades are planned for LAB this year to provide an even richer learning experience, including mobile access to learning content and a more effective blended learning offering. The LAB portal also gives managers and advisors the ability to recommend LAB resources to their teams, enabling differentiated learning for an individual's or a project's specific needs.
  • Growth through Training: At BCG, your development begins as soon as you arrive, with personalized mentorship, on-the-job coaching, and dedicated training sessions. For example, Entry-Level Skills Training (ELST) is an in-person experiential program organized around a well honed case simulation. In keeping with BCG’s apprenticeship model, Project Leaders, Principals, and Partners lead the individual sessions and play the roles of customers and clients. Programs such as “Emerging Leaders” are offered to Business Services staff, helping participants excel in project management and execution. Our dedication to advancing our employees’ careers also emphasizes a deep understanding of diversity, seen in the “Unconscious Bias” training and the “Peer Group Counseling Sessions for Managers” in select offices.

    How to Get Hired

We asked The Boston Consulting Group, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

BCG is growing across all practices and all functional areas. We are seeking a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and there is no specific prior expertise required. We look for smart, curious individuals who have the drive, passion and humility to be in client service and who will embrace the BCG culture and thrive within it. Candidates need to have strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to focus on the truth that we believe exists in any business problem. In a summary, we are looking for people with drive and passion to help our clients and BCG succeed.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

A strong prospective employee will not only offer solutions to the problem at hand during an interview, but will also demonstrate a natural curiosity to explore other related issues and opportunities. Strong candidates are genuine and are able to communicate what makes them unique and how they will contribute to our culture.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

This year we plan to expand hiring across job categories, industries, practice areas and geographic locations to support our continued growth.  We look for candidates from a variety of education and industry backgrounds with drive and passion to help our clients succeed.  In addition to new consultants, we have ambitious targets for 2016 across many pieces of our business including expert hiring, Technology Advantage, Business Services Staff, Principals and Project Leaders. BCG Digital Ventures (DV) has created strategic partnerships with the world's leading companies to create disruptive digital platforms. In doing so, DV doubled its size within the US in the last year and expanded rapidly internationally. We're continuing to look for talent at all levels from college graduate to experienced industry executive across all functions. In addition, BCG is looking to hire further talent across all levels into Platinion, BCG's in-house IT consulting and risk management services subsidiary.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

BCG’s online presence is an accessible way for candidates to learn more about us. Our redesigned website,, houses information about our work, global presence, people, publications and latest news. Our social media presence is another way candidates stay current with what our people are thinking about and working on; BCG is on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+.   We also maintain social media channels for bcg.perspectives to disseminate the latest research from BCG’s thought leaders.   We encourage future candidates currently in undergraduate or graduate programs to connect with BCG via our on-campus recruiting events, so we can get to know one another informally and in person to determine whether BCG could be a good fit. Interested candidates can also reach out to our office-based recruiting teams to set up an informal discussion about employment opportunities.
