Perks and Programs

We asked Talent Plus, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Great Take Off Day (Day One: Talent Plus' extensive, structured orientation for new associates begins with Day One - once a month, all on the same day. New associates are introduced during Formation. Then they participate in a relationship-building activity with the Executive Leadership Team. Building relationships between associates and leaders is imperative in building a great culture and robust associate experience. The balance is spent meeting their business unit. Day One ends with an all associates' hospitality hour with new associates and their families. Talent Cards are read and presented (personalized affirmation of an individual’s talents and strengths).
  • Taste of Talent and Hall Hospitality: Approximately 60-70 people enjoy breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack prepared by our Executive Chef in Taste of Talent. Over half of the cost is paid by Talent Plus. Our gathering space, Hall Hospitality, is a site for numerous events for not-for-profits in the Lincoln area, as well as family celebrations for Talent Plus associates. This is a celebrated space where associates welcome family and friends at no charge for room rental and a vastly discounted menu for catering. As well, if they want to bring in their own food, there are no restrictions. Having this in our building is a convenient, engaging way to enhance our culture. We have enjoyed locally sourced, healthy fare this year with a new chef in place since September.
  • "No Limit" Policy: Based on associate feedback, Talent Plus changed a previous 10 day vacation guideline to mirror its sick leave guideline upon 1 year of employment. This was based upon the study of companies with an unlimited model and the application that if associates were self-directed with unlimited sick leave, the same could be applied to our vacation. This helps associates take the time they need, when they need it, balancing their needs with the needs of their team in their absence. In its fifth year, this policy has seen associates take trips of a lifetime as well as more long weekends.
  • It's the Culture: Talent Plus' Mission Statement expresses that everyone has talent and Talent Plus practices its own science, selecting those who can work at the highest level in a role they have the aptitude to perform. This creates a high-powered, engaged culture where people enjoy their jobs. Co-founder Dr. William E. Hall added the “+” in our name to exemplify relationships -- necessary for talent to develop. Relationships create engaged cultures. Work is accomplished through relationships that create trust. Associates receive feedback on their interview, creating continual development. Leaders are chosen based upon growth orientation, knowing talented individuals crave investment. Teams/associates utilize solutions offered to clients (e.g. Team Days, Talent Cards, Strength Development Plans, etc.).
  • Social Responsibility: Our Promise: “… a compelling citizen to have in any community.” Talent Plus seeks to strengthen communities by improving opportunities and outcomes through generously offering time, talent and treasure. Associates say social responsibility is important: “Our commitment to having a huge impact in our community is the thing that keeps me most positively engaged..." "Our social responsibility efforts are world class and I love the pillars that we support.” Associates enjoy “paid” jeans days where we raise money for a not-for-profit and Talent Plus matches funds raised. We sell raffle tickets at our own holiday party for items (trips, concert tickets, etc.), raising $7000+ to fund a nearby school's food backpack program in conjunction with the food bank.
  • Life Long Learning: We select lifelong learners and create opportunities that appeal to associates. For example, we offer lunch and learns where we bring in industry pioneers to share their stories, successes and wisdom. Team members are also given learning opportunities to upgrade and sharpen their skills and competencies (e.g. road trips, international business trips and annual certification programs). Our Associate Learning Academy is a series of synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities that associates participate in from the beginning of their journey through several years of employment. Facilitators range from company leaders to industry experts to subject matter experts in our science.
  • Leadership Lattice: This optional path was the outcome of our 2011 CultureView ® study recognizing individuals needed more understanding of career trajectory outside of managing people. Two individuals lead this initiative and work with teams to ensure associates are engaged in the Lattice. The Lattice is designed to meet an individual’s diverse needs while encouraging a professional career that’s engaging and productive with growth in expertise. Rewards are significant and offer organizational status equivalent to that in management and are publicly celebrated with family members in attendance. Success is reached by quantitative and qualitative outcomes, encouraging mastery versus “seniority” or “entitlement.” Movement aligns with job scope and client needs – not tangential tracks or productivity distraction. Individuals have the freedom to choose achievements based upon interest and expertise, allowing individualized expression to realize full potential.
  • Celebration Hosts and Celebration Space: Talent Plus provides a Celebration Host to and from home and the airport. Talent Plus employs a number of road warriors, and this is a welcome perk. Associates are able to utilize company vehicles for travel closer to Lincoln. Talent Plus offers two homes on campus - The Cottage and The Manor. Our extended community members stay in these residential settings while in Lincoln. Associates can have friends/relatives use these residential dwellings at a vastly discounted rate. In addition, The Manor has a meeting space Talent Plus teams use for retreats and Team Days. Associates involved in community organizations can also use this space at no cost to host offsite meetings/retreats. Talent Plus has access to a recreational space west of Lincoln where families can gather or camp at no cost.
  • 4 day weekends: Associates at Talent Plus work hard and play hard. One of the benefits associates enjoy is a number of 4-day weekends. When all associates are enjoying time away, each has the opportunity to really rest and replenish. Having a 4-day holiday 3-4 times a year has provided this additional focus on family and friends. Associates enjoy 4-day holidays over the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as occasionally, depending upon the calendar, at New Year's.
  • Our Stars - Anniversaries and Going Above and Beyond: Upon Talent Plus associates' 10th anniversary, Talent Plus purchases a star named after that associate. A framed certificate and map to find it are provided to each of celebrants at Annual Meeting. At 20 years, associates receive a crystal star and $10,000 deposited into their Long-Term Incentive Plan. This past July, we celebrated 8 associates at 10 years and 2 associates at 20 years. They are our stars this year. We also offer 5 star cards - written opportunities for associates to celebrate someone going above and beyond, contributing value to our organization. Across the building these are displayed on desks and in offices - a visual reminder and a source of pride. Being appreciative and helping others feel significant are a large part of relationship building within our culture.

    How to Get Hired

We asked Talent Plus, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Positivity and exactness are tickets to admission in our culture. We accept people based upon who they are and their framework of needs, not the framework of ourselves, so we look for evidence of an individualized and caring. We operate on relationships. People who thrive at Talent Plus are intentional about building positive relationships. Individuals don't have to be extroverted, but must have strength in connecting to others to build healthy teams. Our business is complex and sophisticated; curious individuals with an insatiable desire to learn are a great fit. We don’t have a lot of rules/regulations, so we look for ambiguity tolerance and self-direction. We look for demonstrated focus (fundamentally about biological energy and its direction). We look for assertiveness — associates who can express their needs/goals. We select for integrity. Associates at Talent Plus know fellow associates act upon the best interests of our clients and one another.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We are always recruiting. When a candidate goes beyond "applying," it gets our attention. An example of this is a unique, interesting cover letter: A candidate compared great companies and Talent Plus to Greek Yogurt "because it's about the culture." It set them apart through creative courage. An individualized approach sets people apart. When a candidate takes the time to learn our recruiter's name and does their homework on who we are and expresses it in some fashion during the process, it gets our attention. We notice when a candidate has good questions. Applicants are making important life decisions and those who are a best fit bring good questions. When talented people have the opportunity to express their talents, we take notice, e.g. when someone loves their job and performs it with excellence, whether a server at a restaurant, acting as a volunteer or performing their work role with excellence.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

As an outcome of last year's strategic planning, we set a goal to bring our technology development team members in-house. We continue to insource in alignment with that need, in addition to adding several programmers and quality assurance team members to support this strategy.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Visit the Careers page on Talent Plus’ website and complete an application. Candidates will have an opportunity to upload their resume to start the process. As well, they should become as familiar with Talent Plus, our culture and the services and solutions we offer as possible so that when they arrive for an in-person interview, they will have questions to ask of those with whom they visit. If you don't want to apply online, call our recruiter directly at 800-827-7489 and ask for Kyle Bruss or Kesha Harris.
