Perks and Programs

We asked Synergy Flavors to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Graduate Development Program: The Graduate Development Program is a two year program. Graduates are hired and can be located in the UK, US or Ireland. The graduate induction includes local site orientation as well as knowledge of group structures. The graduates can expect to rotate two to three times during the program at any of the sites. Additionally, a mentor is assigned to each graduate, and an individual development plan is determined at the beginning of the program. During the course of the program, the graduate can expect core training programs set up at each location, such as time management, communication and presentation skills and introduction to finance.
  • Commitment to Health: In addition to having an onsite Fitness Center at its headquarters, Synergy Flavors sponsors a softball and basketball community league for employees in the summer and winter seasons. Additionally, Synergy Flavors participates in the Foodie 5K, which benefits the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
  • Job Shadow Program: Synergy Flavors partners with the University of Illinois in Champaign for its job shadow program. This program provides students with an opportunity to gain exposure to specific applications of their major and career interests. Synergy Flavors is able to showcase what professionals do on a day-to-day basis and share the daily challenges. This program also allows Synergy Flavors to identify potential candidates early in their college careers for internships and development programs. This program enables Synergy Flavors to invest in its future workforce in the food and beverage industry.
  • Flavorist in Training Program: As a leading provider of flavor ingredients to the food and beverage industry, it is important that skilled chemists are employed in the flavor creation field. Synergy Flavors provides a training program for chemists and food scientists entering the flavor industry. This training is individualized to each trainee, who is assigned a Certified Flavor Chemist as a mentor. Flavor Chemist Trainees in this program complete studies in associated disciplines and must successfully pass the phase exams administered by the Society of Flavor Chemists.
  • Military Hiring Commitment: Synergy Flavors partners with various military recruitment agencies to recruit top military talent. The company is committed to the nation's military professionals. It is the most highly trained, technically capable, verifiable, diverse and teamwork-oriented work force in the world today, and it is important to Synergy Flavors to utilize this talent source.
  • Celebrations: Bringing employees together to celebrate is very important to the culture at Synergy Flavors. Every year the company has a summer picnic with employees and their families. With face painting, balloon artists and a photo booth, this is the most anticipated event of the year for the employees and their families. This year Synergy Flavors brought everyone to the Arlington Park racetrack for a day at the races! Synergy Flavors also celebrates the Holiday Season with an off-site luncheon at a local banquet hall and also celebrates various holidays and events with activities such as Super Bowl chili cook-offs, ice cream socials, BBQs and cookie exchanges. Being an Irish-owned company, St. Patrick's’ Day is always a blast at Synergy Flavors, with a traditional Irish lunch catered for employees.
  • Employee Referral Program: Synergy Flavors believes its greatest advocates are its employees. The Employee Referral Program encourages current employees to really think about the positives of working for the organization, and then spread the word to their network. Synergy Flavors offers a generous referral bonus of $1,000 for hourly and $2,000 for salaried referrals.
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program: Synergy Flavors recognizes the importance of enabling employees to reach their personal goals while also allowing them to expand their knowledge and contribute to the business. The tuition reimbursement program allows Synergy Flavors the opportunity to invest in its employees. Tuition reimbursement is offered for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Internship Program: Synergy Flavors partners with several colleges to recruit top talent for its internship program. After an orientation, the interns are welcomed into their respective departments and given responsibilities for the summer. They work on a cross-functional group project and present the project at the end of the summer. Not only do the company’s interns help with business needs, but they gain excellent working knowledge to use in the future. Interns are also a great pool of candidates for future positions within Synergy Flavors.
  • Charitable Contributions: Giving back to the community is important. Synergy Flavors holds drives for the local food pantry, the American Red Cross and One Warm Coat. The employees have raised money for the Lurie Children’s Hospital, the Lake County Haven and Synergy Flavors is a major producer of vanilla extracts. This year, the vanilla growing SAVA region of Madagascar was hit hard by Cyclone Enowa. Synergy Flavors donated to provide for some of the people in a disadvantaged, remote area of Madagascar. Synergy Flavors has also funded projects and built two schools to provide better access to primary education for Malagasy children from the vanilla-growing SAVA region. This is a way for Synergy Flavors to give back to the community of growers who have been at the heart of Synergy Flavors' success.
