Perks and Programs

We asked SUNation Solar Systems Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Profit Sharing Program: In 2015, SUNation Solar Systems, Inc. rolled out its first ever Profit Sharing Program. This plan dispersed $250,000 over seven months to all full time employees excluding the owners of the company. We anticipate continuing the Profit Sharing Program in 2016 and the years to come.
  • Lunch and Learn: In 2015, SUNation launched our Lunch and Learn program. Bimonthly, the entire office staff is invited to participate in innovative, educational opportunities together as a company with lunch provided by the company owners. This is a great and enjoyable opportunity for our entire staff to learn about our industry at large and more specifically, learn about and appreciate the work we all do.
  • Seasonal Celebrations: At least twice per year, the owners invite SUNation employees and their families to celebratory events in gratitude and appreciation for the work they do. These events are held at the owners' personal residences and drive home the family culture that we share.
  • Last Chance Animal Rescue: Scott Maskin, CEO of SUNation Solar Systems, Inc., started fostering dogs through Last Chance Animal Rescue back in 2014. Scott started bringing his home life to work with him and nowadays it is extremely common to come into the office and see employees working with a puppy on their lap or nestled in a basket on their desk. Our most recent litter included a mom and 6 puppies. Most people don't know that dogs and puppies make fantastic co-workers! To date, several of our employees have adopted furry family members after falling in love with them at work. This is a shining example of how important community and family are to our culture.
  • Work together, relax together: It has been a tradition over the years for the owners of SUNation to get together and do something fun outside of work with all of the employees. This is done as a 'thank you' to the staff. In recent years there have been paint nights, fishing trips, dinners on Fire Island and even a zombie survival experience!
  • The SUNation Environment: Our employees consider SUNation's environment a perk in and of itself. It is very difficult to verbally explain a company's atmosphere but to simplify it, this is a place where people want to be, work and grow. The owners of the company have fostered an environment where employee’s needs and customer’s needs often come before the needs of the company. This happened organically because the owners have always cared more about people than they do about stringent policy and lining their pockets. As it turned out, this has become an extremely successful business model. Taking care of our employees has resulted in them working hard, providing excellent customer service and the creation of a culture we feel is unique and enjoyable.

      How to Get Hired

We asked SUNation Solar Systems Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Traditionally all of our hiring was done through word of mouth. The vast majority of hires were a friend or family member of an existing employee. As we grow, we are looking for candidates who understand how important our family atmospshere is to us. We look for people who have ideas, passion and drive. We explain to all prospective employees that the seat they start in most likely will not be the seat they stay in forever becuase we are growing. We give employees the latitude to develop their roles. Overall we look for self-driven people who enjoy working on teams.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We utilize a combination of traditional, print, website and social media outlets to communicate with potential new employees.  It hasn't been uncommon for those who are looking to work with us to create a video resume detailing how they would be an asset to our company.  We welcome and encourage creativity, individuality, and believe that our company is continually evolving to be more than just the sum of its parts.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We're privileged to have been a founding company in the renewable energy space on Long Island.  Employment growth in our field is four times that of the national average.  Our search for talented and motivated individuals is ongoing and we anticipate continued growth in the coming years.  Our growing departments include: Administration, Sales, Installation, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, and Management.
