Perks and Programs

We asked Sun Communities, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Road To Success: Road to Success is a training program in place to support property managers during their first year with Sun. The program is designed to have four stops along the way. The first stop is online learning through, Sun University, our online learning platform. In this step, managers complete courses that provide a foundation for future learning. The second stop is a visit to the main office for a week-long training that includes building resources, operations training and creating culture. This week is hosted by our learning and development team who partners with operations leaders to facilitate the week. The third stop is leadership, and the fourth stop is empowerment; where our new managers are encouraged to embrace the tools/resources provided and continue their educational journey.
  • FIERCE: Sun provides FIERCE Leadership training to new managers as well as any team member that would like to strengthen their communication skills. This training grows team members professionally and personally by focusing on the importance of having conversations in order to resolve tough challenges and enrich relationships. New managers from all over the country travel to the main office to take courses that cover teamwork, coaching, delegation, and confronting issues. This in-person training encourages interaction amongst managers that provides an atmosphere of sharing and real-life practice to prepare our managers in handling a multitude of situations. FIERCE training, ideas, materials and templates are regularly discussed and made available online through our intranet for all team members to utilize.
  • Sun Rewards: Sun Rewards is our online program that we utilize to recognize and reward those team members who exhibit Sun’s core success attributes and go above and beyond. Some things that team members are recognized for include; going above and beyond expectations, providing exceptional customer service, achieving milestone years of service, or a congratulations on a celebratory occasion. This program allows team members and managers to log in and recognize fellow team members for all to see. In addition, managers have the ability to award team members points to go along with their recognition. Team members can then go shopping through the Sun Rewards store and turn their points into items. Team members have chosen great rewards like TVs, jewelry, flights, and much more.
  • SunFit: SunFit is our state of the art fitness center complete with spinning, TRX, yoga studios, and personal trainers to assist in reaching personal health and wellness goals. Perks include free individualized personal training, group fitness classes, nutrition counseling, stress management (such as massage therapy and an aromatherapy room), and team building activities. SunFit is open 24/7 to team members and a guest, and also includes access locker room amenities. SunFit launched an app in 2017 driven by a team member’s smart phone that tracks everything from nutrition, exercise and steps. It includes the ability to enter fitness challenges with coworkers and earn Sun Rewards. The goal of SunFit is to promote a healthy quality of life for all Sun team members.
  • The Idea Box: The Idea Box is located within Connect, Sun’s company intranet, and was introduced in 2015. The Idea Box allows team members company-wide to submit any ideas that they have on implementing or improving policies, procedures, and programs. Once a team member has submitted an idea to the Idea Box it is posted on the page in Connect for all team members to see and comment on. Team members have the opportunity to vote the idea up or down, depending on if they feel it will add value to the company. Team members can also check the status of ideas that have been submitted by clicking on it to see if it’s in review or has been implemented.
  • The Fridge: The Fridge is a social networking platform located within Connect that is intended to catch all kinds of accomplishments, just like your fridge at home! Every team member has access to the Fridge; it is a spot where the team is encouraged to share their accomplishments both personal and professional with their co-workers. It is a great platform for managers and executives to recognize the great things being accomplishment by our team members, such as completing a large sale, collecting $10,000 in delinquencies or successfully finishing a big project. It allows the entire company to interact and participate in the recognition that this being shared. The positive interaction on The Fridge is just one way that Sun spotlights the successes of its team members.
  • Leadership Conference: Biannually, Sun Communities selects a fun location in the US to host a conference for all community/resort managers, senior leaders, department heads, and various team members from the main office to attend. How to Get Hired

We asked Sun Communities, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At Sun Communities, our team is considered one of our most valuable assets. Together as a team, we embrace the core success attributes that make Sun a great place to work. In each position, we’re looking for candidates who display great customer service skills, intensity, accountability, empowerment and commitment. Our goals are to inspire, reward, and transform team members to be the best working versions of themselves. Embracing these attributes and sharing a passion for a collaborative company culture is a sure way to show us that you will be a great fit at Sun.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Prospective team members can get our attention by showing us that they are prepared for the interview, are knowledgeable about our company, and have an understanding of what the job they’re applying for will entail. Further, we want to see that the candidate is passionate about our business, is a self-motivator, and is dedicated to learning more. With more specialized roles, we are looking for a well-formatted resume that highlights their specific skills and clearly and concisely outlines recent experience relative to the position.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Veteran hiring and seasonal positions will continue to be a focus. Sun believes that service to our country should be rewarded with opportunities to make the most of the skills and dedication developed while serving in the military. We value veterans’ discipline, integrity, and commitment and look to continue the development of these qualities through employment with Sun. We are committed to integrating veterans as team members, starting from their first interview and continuing throughout their employment. Many of our seasonal positions are filled by residents, while team members can participate in our unique Work Camper program, which allows them to earn site rent in addition to their hourly pay. Returning seasonal team members earn increased pay, and bonuses are given at the end of the season. The best part is that there is always the potential for seasonal workers to transition into year-round roles.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates can learn more about Sun Communities by visiting our social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. We have separate Twitter feeds for RV resorts and manufactured housing, as these operations provide very different opportunities. In addition to these platforms, we have a fabulous company website with up-to-date information on the company and our open positions. We are also proud to be listed on Glassdoor, a wonderful website where we encourage all past and present team members to discuss their experience working at Sun Communities.
