Perks and Programs

We asked STCU to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Workplace Flexibility: Recognizing that life outside of work is important, STCU offers a variety of flexible work schedules to most departments to include compressed work week, alternate shifts, and working remotely/telecommuting. In addition, STCU offers employees paid time to take their child(ren) to their first day of kindergarten, and to attend parent/teacher conferences.
  • Success Sharing Plan: STCU believes in sharing in our financial success with all employees. Every six months, we evaluate the challenges and opportunities before us and determine what specific things we need to do to achieve success. If we are able to attain our goals for the six month period, we all share in our accomplishment by earning extra cash, which has averaged between 6-10% of an employee’s earnings depending on their position. Employees can track the progress toward each of our six month success sharing plan goals on the Numbers page on the Insider (our intranet).
  • Volunteers Count Program: STCU employees are engaged in “Volunteers Count”, a program whereby STCU will contribute dollars for employees’ volunteering their time. Giving back is what our employees do! In 2015, STCU employees volunteered 7,300 hours within our community in service to others. The program awards employees with eight hours of volunteer time to use during regular work hours for the purposes of volunteering their time to a local charity, in their child’s school, church or other non-profit entity. Once an employee has logged a minimum of twelve hours, STCU will donate $25 to that entity on behalf of the employee.
  • Saving for the Future: STCU believes in helping employees build retirement savings for a financially secure future. In order to assist in that effort, STCU offers a generous 401k retirement program where employee contributions are matched up to 5% after one year. After two years of employment, STCU contributes an additional 5% into the employee's retirement account, regardless of the level the employee is contributing.
  • Employee Development Programs: Giving our employees opportunities to learn and grow is one of STCU's key differentiators. We encourage our employees to take advantage of the numerous learning opportunities in order to expand their knowledge and/or prepare themselves for future positions. Programs include job shadows, mentoring, leader development training, personal leadership skills training, and development assignments to provide learning in new areas or expanding current knowledge, and transition coaching to assist new leaders with their transition.
  • Education Assistance: An employee's ongoing learning is supported through STCU's generous tuition reimbursement program. We support and encourage an employee's choice to go back to school and earn a degree by paying more than the average in tuition reimbursement dollars. The program is available to all full time employees, and depending on your years of service you can earn up to $7,000 per year reimbursement for an undergraduate degree. On average, we have at least 70 students enrolled in a formal education program at a local university or community college or through an online offering.
  • Welcome Party: STCU offers a fun and unique onboarding experience that starts with a welcome card that is sent to the employee's home prior to their first day. Employees arrive on their first day to find their work space decorated along with a welcome sign. Shortly after starting, employees receive a wrapped gift which includes a branded desk caddy. To continue with the warm welcome, employees attend "Welcome Party" which is a fun-filled day spent learning about STCU's history, culture, core values (through a Scavenger Hunt activity), meeting the Senior Management Team and asking any question they would like, and other important information. At 90 and 120 days a “check-in” survey is sent to see how employees are doing and identify if further support is needed.
  • Culture Enthusiasts: STCU’s Culture Club is comprised of employees from all across the company who have a passion to keep our culture and unique working environment alive. They “culture crash” departments to play games and celebrate, they host an annual Halloween Party for employees and their families, sponsor Family Nights at the local Indians Baseball Games and make frequent appearances at the Monthly Staff Meeting to infuse fun and celebration. In addition, STCU's Activity Committee infuses fun into the culture of STCU by organizing our annual Winter Party where employees and a guest enjoy a night of dinner, dancing and prize drawings. The Activity Committee also hosts the Annual Carousel Party where employees and their families are invited to enjoy a private party at Spokane’s historic carousel.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

The majority of STCU’s openings are typically in our branches, in the role of teller or loan and member service officers.  However, we have also had ongoing opportunities in our Information Technology division, as well as our Contact Center and other back-office support positions. We have a strong philosophy of promotion from within, so even if you start in one role, you have the opportunity to post for other openings as they come available. The types of candidates that we look for are those that want to actively learn and grow in their job, and like to have fun!
