Perks and Programs

We asked Squarespace to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Welcome Gift: On their first morning, Squarespace presents new employees with welcome gift bags filled with various goodies ranging from branded moleskin notebooks, caramels made by a Squarespace customer based in Portland, and more.
  • Initial Commit: Squarespace interns and recent graduates spend their first week with Squarespace at a beach house to learn about the company's code base, products, and values in a relaxed and creative environment.
  • Unlimited Vacation: Squarespace offers unlimited vacation, sick, and personal days that can be used to address personal crises or family illness.
  • $5,000 Cash Bonus for Internal Referrals: The generous $5,000 internal bonus for every Squarespace staff member who refers a successful new full time, exempt hire ($500 for part time, non-exempt positions) recognizes and reinforces the fact that referrals by existing staff tend to result in a good cultural fit.
  • Hack Week: Every three months, time is set aside for staff to work on whatever they want for a whole week. This is a time to really encourage new ideas and creativity from within our organization. Every participant presents their idea to the entire company at the end of the week. Read a more detailed description of Hack Week in the Develop Section - Freedom and Autonomy.
  • Quarterly Team Outings: Party in a Box makes it easy for managers to plan and hold team gatherings for new hires, departures, product launches, etc. Managers simply request an activity through our internal Service Desk and the rest is taken care of by our internal Experience Team. Our Experience Team has pre-selected a handful of bars and restaurants that are walking distance from the office and already have our company credit card on file. Along with lunches and dinners, seven fun city activities have been pre arranged with certain venues. At Squarespace, we want our employees to feel appreciated for their hard work and effort while enjoying a social outing to build team rapport and ensure alignment.
  • Summer Party: The annual “Summer Party” event gives an opportunity for all staff to socialize with family, friends, and colleagues. It is filled with surprises for the kids and grown-ups.
  • Parental Leave: Squarespace has taken a strong position to support new parents. 18 weeks paid leave for Primary Caregivers 6 weeks paid leave for Non-Primary Caregivers
  • Biking: Squarespace also provides a locked bike room in the office and showers for people who bike into work.
  • Daily Catered Lunch: We offer free catered lunch every single day. Nutritious meals including fresh salads, protein sources, grains, and a variety of breads and condiments provide an ever-changing menu for the team. All snacks and meals take various dietary requirements into consideration.

How to Get Hired

We asked Squarespace for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At Squarespace, we look for people who possess an innate sense of creativity. Most Squarespace employees have an outlet for expressing their creativity through areas such as art, music, design, photography, writing, etc. We are defined by our insistence on providing an unparalleled customer experience. All of our team members are charged with bringing creativity, honesty, and intellectual rigor to their responsibilities in a never-ending quest to delight our customers. We have high expectations of each other and work as a team to build things we are all proud of. That mindset, along with our execution, has allowed Squarespace to create revolutionary products and grow into the stable business it is today.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Cultural fit is just as important to us as a candidate’s experience and skill set. We want to make sure our employees are passionate about our product, believe in our mission statement, and enjoy what they do. Most importantly, we try to hire good people who respect others and treat them with kindness.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Hiring engineers is always a priority for us and is tough job when you're competing against more established software companies that employ an army of headhunters and recruiters (our technical recruiting team is only two strong). That's why we have to think about creative ways to get our message out there.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates can visit the Squarespace Careers page at http://squarespace.com/about/careers, where additional information about our teams, our company culture, our many perks, and our open positions can be found. Candidates can apply to any open position directly on the company website.
