We asked Softchoice to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Passport Program: Softchoice has partnered with one of the best providers of employee discount programs in the industry. Employees have access to a network of over 2500 restaurants, retailers and flight deals throughout the country through Passport Corporate. Locations across the United States all have unique, ongoing discount programs for members. Passport Corporate offer mobile apps and online access to their programs.
  • Gym Facilities: At Softchoice, health is extremely important and we know how hard getting to the gym can be! Therefore, at many of our locations we offer gym facilities right on site! Some of the locations include Seattle and Toronto. Other sites are provided with discount memberships to gyms in thier area in order to make it easier to get to the gym!
  • Parking and Transit Subsidy: At Softchoice,we offer our employees subsdies for either taking a greener commute (transit) or parking if they drive. For parking, employees who park at Softchoice lots will pay a maximum amount of $100, if the cost is greater than $100 Softchoice will pay the remaining balance! For our green commute, Softchoice offers a transit subsidy to provide resources and support to encourage the use of public/mass transit instead of driving. we pay each employee $75 dollars per month to help in the cost of buying a transit pass!
  • Softchoice Referral Program: We are always looking for great talent and the truth is, great employees know great people! We offer our employees a generous referral bonus depending on the role for recommending talent that we end hiring. This is a great incentive for employees to recommend their friends, family or past colleagues - this program has been quite successful as 32% of our hires comes from referrals!
  • Bring your Dog to Work: We are a dog friendly office, and encourage our folks to bring their pooches to work. We actively promote this on our website, and on marketing materials. The doggies are part of us here at Softchoice!
  • Employee Investment Plan: All employees have the opportunity to purchase stock in the company and become a shareholder. We have folks working here now that own a part of Softchoice, and we could not be more proud.
  • Free Lunch: Once a month (at minimum) we offer free lunch at our locations as our entire company gathers together for a monthly Orange Nation Live call hosted by our CEO, Dave MacDonald, aka DMAC! This is a lively show that not only spends time recognizing significant accomplishments, but also giving folks updates on the business and offering up suggestions on how to accomplish goals. This is a great time for networking, learning about opportunities in the company and getting some face to face time with our senior leaders, not to mention an awesome lunch. We also offer up breakfasts, lunches and other food based fun throughout each month, but on a less formal basis.
  • Employee Purchase: We offer employees the opportunity to purchase shares in the company, to own a piece of Softchoice! Many people have already taken advantage of this, and they are now not just employees of Softchoice, but also owners in the company. This was something that our employees have asked for time and time again, and we are so proud and excited that we have been able to roll this program out!
  • Monthly Beverage/Snack Cart: On the first Friday of each month, each office participates in a monthly beverage cart. It's a time for folks in each location to socialize with each other and enjoy a free drink and snack. Most months also have themes like the one in April of this year for Opening Season for Baseball, so all employees have been encouraged to wear a t-shirt or ball camp supporting their favorite team!
  • Extra Days Off: Annually, every full-time employee receives additional time off outside of their stat holidays and vacation. We each receive 1 moving day, 2 volunteer days to use to support any organization of your choosing, 2 floater days to supplement vacation and 1 recess day, which is simply an extra day off. It's very important that we give people time to refresh and relax because they all work hard!

    We asked Softchoice for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

    What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

    Our people are our greatest assets.  Last year one of our single largest investments was around training and onboarding new hires.  We bring them to Toronto for four weeks.  We invest in our people and in their success.  We look for people who are similarily invested -- invested in their own development and growth, invested in our shared values, invested in the success of our clients and invested in giving back to our communities.  

    What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

    Prospective employees catch our attention by being authentic and expressing how their unique experiences can help make Softchoice an even better place to work.  We welcome the unique perspectives and insights of a diverse group of people.  We believe this helps to drive innovation, collaboration and helps us to more accuragely reflect and serve our customer base.  Prospective employees who are excited by this culture and want to bring their 'whole' selves to their place of employemnt are exactly the type of talent we are looking for.  

    Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

    This year we are focused on growing our business by strenghtening our relationships with existing customers and introducing Softchoice to new clients across North America.  This will require a broad range of talent - sales, technical, operations and leadership.  In our Sales Divisions, we are looking for Territory Sales Representatives, Inside Sales Representatives and Outbound Sales Representatives.  This is where we will see the largest focus throughout the organization, and subsequently we have revitalized our 16 week sales rep onboarding program which combines 4 weeks of classroom instruction with an additional 12 weeks of on the job instruction, support and coaching.   As our Sales Teams increase in size, we will also be adding additional technical and operational support to ensure we provide the best in class customer service that we pride ourselves on.  We'll also need new leaders to support the growth within the teams, and hope to fill those roles internally.
