We asked SmartPak for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.
What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
When most people say "work hard, play hard," they don't mean at the same time. But we're not most people. We're a little more awesome than that. At SmartPak, we're serious about supporting healthy horses and happy riders, but we're also serious about having fun. Our serious side has earned us several major awards for growth and innovation, while our "seriously playful" side landed us an amazing team of co-workers. To be a great fit here, we look for confident, capable, creative and passionate individuals who want to make a difference. SmartPakers are hard-working, collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
We are thrilled that most of our job openings get a great response rate, and we promise we look at each one individually. That said, if you happen to know someone who works here and can sing your praises, let them know you are interested.. If not, no worries, just take your time responding to our application questions; we are really interested in what you have to say and how you say it. Or, if you know SmartPak will be at a trade show or event near you, stop by and say hello to anyone working our booth. We'd love to meet you. The one thing we'd suggest not doing is applying for roles you are not a fit for. While we would love to know you are interested in us, please wait for the right role for you and your qualifications.
Are there any unusual or especially rigorous steps of your hiring process that candidates should be aware of?
We take our time to select the best talent for our roles. Sometimes this means coming in for a few rounds of interviews with a few folks. We are also sometimes on the road going to trade-shows, speaking at conferences, or leading SmartPak Acadamies. We try not to make candidates wait to come in, but we also try to be efficient and group as many meetings on a day as we can so please bear with us if it takes some time to get the right people together to meet your or make decisions.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
In 2016-17 we will continue to hire our core roles, and may have more needs in IT, Merchandising, and Creative.
