We asked Sephora US for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.
What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
Sephora looks for team members who demonstrate our values of Innovation, Respect, Teamwork, Initiative, Expertise, Passion, and Balance. When we meet candidates, whether for a role in our stores, our distribution centers, or in our corporate office, we want to hear that they’re obsessed with delivering an exceptional experience to our clients. It doesn’t mean they have to be a beauty junky, but it does mean they place a supreme value on going above and beyond for our client. For the leading retailer in the prestige beauty space, we’re surprisingly similar to a start-up in how fast we operate and feel. We’re looking for team members who will embrace this entrepreneurial culture and thrive in it by demonstrating ways they’ve been nimble, quick learners with an eye for how to always keep creating, innovating, and problem solving.
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
We're fortunate to receive many applications from interested candidates. For all openings, we also encourage creative, targeted messaging to store leaders or the recruiting team to stand out from the pack. When a candidate has taken the time to research our values and speak to how they resonate with them, we pay attention. When a candidate demonstrates through their passions outside of work that they are purpose-driven and excited by our purpose around Inspiring Fearlessness, that stands out for us. We appreciate persistence and encourage candidates to never give up, even if the job they originally applied to didn’t work out.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
We're always looking for passionate, talented people. In our stores, we’re looking for Store Managers to oversee our various departments focused on Talent/Business Operations, Selling Floor, and Services. These roles report into our Store Directors. At our Field Support Center (corporate office), there is a focus in hiring for strong Merchandising talent. While we are proud of the female representation in leadership roles (66% of our VP's are women!), we are also continuing our commitment to build a pipeline of female talent in our Digital and Technology organizations, where we still feel women are under-represented in the industry.
