We asked Sephora US for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.
What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
Sephora looks for team members who demonstrate our values of Innovation, Respect, Teamwork, Initiative, Expertise, Passion, and Balance. When we meet candidates, whether for a role in stores, in Finance or in Digital, we want to hear that they’re obsessed with delivering an exceptional experience to our clients. It doesn’t mean they have to be a beauty junky, but it does mean they place a supreme value on going above and beyond for our client. For the leading retailer in the prestige beauty space, we’re surprisingly similar to a start-up in how fast we operate and feel. We’re looking for team members who will embrace this entrepreneurial culture and thrive in it by demonstrating ways they’ve been nimble, quick learners with an eye for how to always keep innovating.
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
We're fortunate to receive many applications from interested candidates. For all openings, we also encourage creative, targeted messaging to store leaders or the recruiting team to stand out from the pack – we are always actively engaging on LinkedIn. Recently, we hired a candidate who applied to a corporate role by mailing a recruiter an amazing pictorial resume of her qualified skills and all of the reasons she loved Sephora. She even showed how the décor of her apartment embodied our brand with black and white striped walls, while still focusing on her professional skills and qualifications. We appreciate persistence and encourage candidates to never give up, even if the job they originally applied to didn’t work out.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
We're always looking for passionate, talented people. This year, we’re looking to increase the number of skincare experts we hire. Sephora has always been known as a place to build a career in Makeup and Artistry, but we’re doubling down in the skincare category and looking for experienced retail leaders with a passion for skincare or former aestheticians who have an interest in retail. Additionally, we’re always looking for strong merchants and digital/technical talent to join us in our Field Support Center (corporate office).
