Perks and Programs

We asked Sephora US to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Sephora Stands Together Fund: We are a Sephora family and we stand together in times of need. Sephora Stands Together provides short-term assistance to Sephora employees facing financial hardship caused by natural disaster, family emergency, and other unexpected events. These grants are not loans and do not have to be repaid. After a disaster, grants are provided to employees for basic expenses, such as temporary shelter, clothing, food, transportation expenses, and other necessities that are not immediately provided by emergency community services or insurance. Employees can donate to this fund (or any charity of their choice) and Sephora will match the donation dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 per year. In addition, we offer the “gift of time” where employees can donate unused paid time off to their fellow employees when needed.
  • Free Product / “Gratis: Our brand partners generously provide free products as a thank you to our employees and to help educate/train on product benefits. In fact, our store employees receive an average of 25 products each month! Corporate employees receive gratis various times throughout the year, sometimes arriving to work with a surprise product drop on their desk! If you thought your friends and family loved you before, just wait until you work at Sephora.
  • Sephora Innovation Lab: The Innovation Lab’s vision is to create innovative and transformational beauty experiences across all touchpoints. The team is dedicated to driving thought leadership and innovation to create the ultimate client experience in stores and digital, while also promoting innovation and design thinking at every level within Sephora. For instance, at the corporate office in San Francisco, employees can sign up to attend Hackathons to tackle a current business challenge the company is facing. Previous topics have included Virtual Reality in Beauty and Build with Sephora’s APIs! Corporate employees can also participate in a number of innovation and design thinking programs where they learn skills like rapid ideation, prototyping, pitching, and how to apply these tools in their day-to-day jobs. Our Sephora cast also play an important role in shaping the future of Sephora innovation through sharing their ideas and feedback on in-store pilots and any new ideas of their own.
  • SephoraIN: Diversity and Inclusion: SephoraIN is Sephora’s diversity and inclusion program with the mindset that we are fearless together. Through events, affinity groups and training opportunities, we invest in the development of women and girls, promote beauty inclusivity and education, and celebrate diversity of backgrounds and perspectives in our communities. In 2018, SephoraIN has organized an International Women’s Day movement encouraging every employee (in stores, distribution centers, and corporate) to send notes to underprivileged girls, hosted a panel for Black History Month and coordinated 15 Pride events throughout the country for our employees and their friends and family to support the LGBTQ community. In addition to 5 employee resource groups, there are also advisory councils for both our store and corporate employees to participate in.
  • Employee Development and Education: As a company, Sephora heavily invests in the training and development of our employees—both in job training/product knowledge and in career development. In our stores, every shift begins with a “Daily Dose” of training and every single employee has a tailored development plan with actionable items to help them get to the next step in their career. We also host several training conferences throughout the year to engage leadership and elevated store experts with additional education opportunities. For corporate employees, we plan development weeks several times a year called “Careerfest” to encourage employees to take a free class provided by Sephora or to set aside time for their personal development. And every single employee has a people-related objective in their annual review to ensure we are growing together.
  • Summer Fridays: Employees in our Field Support Center (corporate office) are encouraged to get an early start to the weekend from Memorial Day through Labor Day as a chance to enjoy work-life balance, one of our Sephora values. By working an hour longer Monday through Thursday, employees can leave at 1 P.M. on Fridays. We celebrate each start of Summer Friday season with a fun desk drop gift like sunscreen, water bottles, and Sephora-branded tote bags and beach towels.
  • Red Bag Speaker Series: We want to help our employees learn and grow—both professionally and personally. Our Red Bag Speaker Series invites entrepreneurs and innovative leaders across various industries to help inspire and educate employees through panel events and fireside chats. The goal is to broaden our thinking both personally and professionally. Past speakers have included the founder of Girls Who Code, Chief Investment Officer of Ellevest, CEO’s and Entrepreneurs, and brand founders such as Dr. Howard Murad (Murad Skincare) and Erika Shumate (Pinrose Fragrances).
  • Shared Rewards: Sephora is unique in our industry because every single employee is bonus eligible—from seasonal hires to our CEO, with a track record of bonuses paying out more often than not over the last 20 years. Moreover, our retail employees are not paid on commission, which allows for greater trust between our employees and our clients (we’ll never push a product that isn’t right just because we want the sale). Our store employees work as a team and receive cash bonuses based on the entire store’s sales.
  • Discounts, discounts, discounts: On top of a year-round product discount in our stores and online, our sister brands under parent company LVMH also offer our employees occasional discounts throughout the year, such as Marc Jacobs sample sales, Benefit Cosmetics brow services, and free Domaine Chandon wine tastings. All employees are also eligible to participate in the “Sephora Loves Perks” program, which provides hundreds of discounts on things like live entertainment tickets, gym memberships, cell phone services, restaurants and more! And if our friends and family didn’t love us already, we lend them our discount around the holidays to stock up on their favorite Sephora products.
  • Workplace Flexibility: Enabling our employees to have autonomy is one of the best ways we equip them to thrive. For our corporate employees, we offer flexible work arrangements such as flexible hours, telecommuting, and accommodations for those returning or preparing to take an extended leave of absence.

How to Get Hired

We asked Sephora US for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Sephora looks for team members who demonstrate our values of Innovation, Respect, Teamwork, Initiative, Expertise, Passion, and Balance. When we meet candidates, whether for a role in our stores, our distribution centers, or in our corporate office, we want to hear that they’re obsessed with delivering an exceptional experience to our clients. It doesn’t mean they have to be a beauty junky, but it does mean they place a supreme value on going above and beyond for our client. For the leading retailer in the prestige beauty space, we’re surprisingly similar to a start-up in how fast we operate and feel. We’re looking for team members who will embrace this entrepreneurial culture and thrive in it by demonstrating ways they’ve been nimble, quick learners with an eye for how to always keep creating, innovating, and problem solving.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We're fortunate to receive many applications from interested candidates. For all openings, we also encourage creative, targeted messaging to store leaders or the recruiting team to stand out from the pack. When a candidate has taken the time to research our values and speak to how they resonate with them, we pay attention. When a candidate demonstrates through their passions outside of work that they are purpose-driven and excited by our purpose around Inspiring Fearlessness, that stands out for us. We appreciate persistence and encourage candidates to never give up, even if the job they originally applied to didn’t work out.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We're always looking for passionate, talented people. In our stores, we’re looking for Store Managers to oversee our various departments focused on Talent/Business Operations, Selling Floor, and Services. These roles report into our Store Directors. At our Field Support Center (corporate office), there is a focus in hiring for strong Merchandising talent. While we are proud of the female representation in leadership roles (66% of our VP's are women!), we are also continuing our commitment to build a pipeline of female talent in our Digital and Technology organizations, where we still feel women are under-represented in the industry.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

If you’re looking for a role at Sephora, the best place to start is our careers site! There you will find all our current openings as well as a place to join our Talent Community, which gives you the ability to stay in-the-know and receive tailored email notifications about the type of opportunities you're interested in as soon as they’re posted. We also encourage interested candidates to get a behind-the-scenes peek on what it’s like to work at Sephora by checking out our @SephoraLife Instagram, LinkedIn company page, and Glassdoor profile.
