  • Work Life VS “Real” Life: Team members at Salsify are empowered to keep a healthy work life balance, which is why we have unlimited vacation hours. Employees take time off based on what’s important to them - whether that is a vacation with friends or catching their child’s school play. Our parental leave policy reflects this as well with a generous 8 weeks paid for adoption and paternity leave and 12 weeks paid for maternity leave. We have an annual summer outing, during which employees’ family and friends are invited to come along and enjoy a day outside of the office together.
  • D&I: Donuts & iced coffee? Well yes, we have those. But at Salsify, D&I really stands for Diversity & Inclusion. Last year, a group of 10 team members came together to help us maintain an open and inclusive line of communication, meaning every voice at the company is an equal voice regardless of your level, background, or expertise. Aside from the initiative group we’ve formed, Salsify partners closely with She Geeks Out (a local women in tech group) to host and attend events that connect female employees with a larger network of like-minded and enthusiastic women. We’ve also hosted unconscious bias trainings and workshops in our office to further our team’s professional development!
  • Committed to our Community: In 2016, Salsify launched a STEM program with Boston Public Schools (BPS) to encourage and enable a more diverse and local pipeline of STEM workers. With BPS and the City of Boston, Salsify regularly hosts middle school students for a day-long field trip in our office. Members of our team guide students to design, build and present prototypes of their own problem-solving software. Last year we partnered with TUGG to expand our STEM program beyond the walls of Salsify and inspired their "Tech Gives Back" event, where 10 different tech companies opened their offices for 10 separate groups of students to spend a day learning what it's like to work in the tech community and most importantly, having fun while doing it! Salsify pioneered the concept of the "Guppy Tank", but being able to see it taken to 9 other companies - was truly rewarding for our entire team.
  • Cross Functional With Purpose: At Salsify, we take pride in saying - everyone owns the culture. We value creating a community where everyone feels welcome to be themselves, share ideas, and have fun while doing it. We've thoughtfully designed the layout of the office to encourage our employees to work together. By incorporating collaboration spaces directly next to, and in the middle of individual workstations, we've allowed our culture to be formed around this concept of collaboration. Our team members work in very cross-functional roles, it's truly the nature of the work we do; we've found it's important for us to provide the right environment to foster a genuinely collaborative workspace. Our executive team choose to forego having personal offices, and instead set ups at a different space (table, couch, etc.) each day - allowing them to be more visible and connected to the daily operations and overall team.
  • Start-Up Attitude: We may not be in the earliest start-up stage, but we keep the start-up spirit alive through constant innovation, a fast-not-flawless attitude, and the fuel we need to keep going - like our weekly company lunches on Fridays, beers on tap, and a fully stocked kitchen with all the snacks you’ll ever need. We can guarantee you’ll never be hungry or bored around here.
  • Customer Oriented Focus: We take pride in our platform. The problem we solve is very unique and requires all hands on deck to solve. In order to keep the communication open between our team and our customers, we invite customers to come be active participants in the solution. We’ve had Q&A panels, webinars, thought leadership events, and customer hackathons. During the customer hackathon, customers come on site and are partnered with a group of Salsify employees to build their dream features in Salsify. The best solutions make it into the platform. It can’t go without saying, we work with some of the most motivated, transformative, and fun people in the retail space.
  • An Empowered Workforce: Starting with the recruitment process, we look for candidates who are passionate, adaptable and empowered because we believe those are the people who will be most successful at Salsify. After employees officially join the team, we give them the tools they need to be successful and drive their own career path within Salsify; whether that looks like a leadership position or a lateral movement between departments. What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Candidates who are empowered, adaptable and capable of problem solving will have the most success at Salsify. The most successful employees at Salsify embody our most important value 'empowered not entitled'.  We take ownership of understanding our goals, the process towards them and the impact we have on our team as a whole. We're passionate about winning as a team and driving towards our goals. People at Salsify are not just smart - they are quick on their feet and can offer creative solutions to the complex challenges we face everyday. This company moves fast, we're growing and we're looking for employees that are adaptable as our company and culture scales. 

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We look for those who are passionate about the problem we're solving and clearly show that they've done their research. A key attribute we look for in prospective employees is the ability to directly convey their message, more importantly we look for those who can tell us why are we a good fit for them and if hired, how they plan to make an impact at Salsify. A good way to do so is to show examples of past successes or wins, and/or display past achievements in an environment like ours. Salsify is in a very niche but exciting space, so we understand not everyone has worked on the exact problem we are solving - but the more understanding and excitement candidates show around the problem we solve the more excitement we will have for them. 

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

In the upcoming year, our biggest areas of growth will be our technology and sales team. As the product continues to evolve, our sales team will be need to handle the demand generation we create and what is created naturally with our growth as a company. Within these two areas, we are looking for candidates who share similar values to ours and think of themselves as empowered, adaptable and passionate.
