  • Associate and Customer-centric: At Raymour & Flanigan, we believe our greatest asset is our people. We are a 65 year old business that was founded on the principles we still maintain today. The company vision of “Enhancing our customers shopping experience” guides all actions and decisions of our 6,000 associates. We believe as a company that our mission must support that vision for us to be successful. Therefore, our company mission statement is to “Treat our people well and they will treat our customers well.” Raymour & Flanigan has been successful because of a simple formula: take great care of our people, who take great care of our customers, who take great care of the company. Our core values of “Walk the Talk,” “Raise the Bar,” and “Be One Team,” round out our unique company culture. We are team-oriented, credible, and strive to be the best.
  • Career Growth Opportunities: Nearly 90% of our senior leadership team was promoted from positions of less responsibility within the company. As an organization, Raymour & Flanigan is passionate about giving our associates opportunities for career growth. We hire associates for long-term careers, and support their aspirations to excel. Through specific, documented coaching plans, we focus on enhancing leadership strengths and improving weaknesses to best prepare associates for promotions. Often, associates are given growth opportunities in departments that may differ from the one in which they started – cross-functional exposure is highly encouraged at Raymour & Flanigan.
  • Open Door Environment: We are passionate about having a culture in which associates feel comfortable speaking openly to other associates and leaders. There are many initiatives that support our open-door policy. For example, cell phones numbers of all leaders within the organization are posted on the company Intranet for easy accessibility. Another example is our weekly coaching conversations that are held with associates. During these honest conversations, leaders recognize performance accomplishments and highlight opportunities. Our leaders are also trained to solicit feedback from associates.
  • Environmental friendly: At Raymour & Flanigan we go above-and-beyond the normal course of business to care for the environment. Every time we deliver furniture, we recycle 100% of the packaging in our own recycling centers. Currently, we have five such facilities located at our Distribution centers across the Northeast. At these locations, we consolidate and break down all packaging material (e.g. cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic wrap) to be recycled. In 2017, we recycled nearly 18 million pounds of materials, including 15.6 million pounds of cardboard, 1 million pounds of plastic wrap, and 700,000 pounds of Styrofoam. In addition, all of our stores use renewal energy credits generated at wind facilities across the U.S., as well as LED lighting that requires 45% less wattage. We have highlighted our recycling efforts in marketing efforts over the last few years, as we believe encouraging environmental-friendly action is an important message to convey.
  • Holiday Breakfasts: During the fall, our company takes a unique approach to holiday parties. As a way to express their gratitude and appreciation, our owners and senior leadership team travel across the company serving breakfast to all associates. These breakfasts provide a great opportunity for leadership to casually interact with associates, gather feedback and suggestions, and support morale during the busy holiday season. At these breakfasts the leadership team serves everything from made-to-order omelets to belgian waffles, mingles with associates, and cleans tables – all in an effort to show gratitude to associates. A special 'holiday' themed mug is given as a gift to all associates. Many associates have collected these mugs over the years. We also celebrate with DJs, dance parties, raffle items and educational opportunities such as a wellness booths. Our CEO has been known to lead the impromptu dance parties, even first thing in the morning.
  • Community Outreach Programs: One of our core values as a company is to give back to the communities in which we live and work. In an effort to do just that, Raymour & Flanigan hosts over 500 annual community outreach events in partnership with local charities and community organizations. These events are grassroots efforts led by our associates. All locations are encouraged to partner with organizations important to our associates and their families. Each event receives a monetary budget along with marketing support. Events are promoted on our company website under our Company Giving section. The Community Outreach efforts, which have become a major part of our culture, are consistent with our company value of “Make a difference in the communities we serve.” In addition to hundreds of local charities, we have partnerships with these organizations: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Make-A-Wish, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, United Way, Say Yes to Education.
  • Learning & Development Institute: Our vision for learning and development is: "To inspire a learning culture of continued growth and development for all associates." In 2006, Raymour & Flanigan launched our state-of-the-art Learning & Development Institute dedicated to associate growth and development. We have seven world class leadership workshops, which are facilitated by internal leaders and expert outside resources. Each workshop focuses on advancing different skills, however all pertain to personal and professional growth. One such program, Emerging Leaders, specifically emphasizes personal development using Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Leaders are nominated to attend these workshops in Liverpool, NY where they also tour the Field Support Center Campus and interact with others from across the footprint. Field-based leadership workshops are also held across the company for newly promoted supervisors and managers. These programs provide an invaluable growth experience for our leaders, and represent our unwavering commitment of investing in our associates.
  • Online Learning Platform: In addition to in-person workshops, we have an initiative for all supervisors, managers and leaders to continue their learning journey with customized online content via the platform. Each year, we create a Leadership Development Journey map outlining the monthly learning topics, for the company. Our internal content team creates customized trainings that are published to our learning platform, and assigned for completion. In addition to the assigned trainings, leaders have access to the entire platform (thousands of micro-learning videos) to expand their knowledge in whatever way they choose. This effort has had a significant impact on the continuation and application of skill development taught in our Learning and Development workshops. Our partners at Grovo have continuously been impressed with our associates’ commitment to learning and rank our engagement (over 80% each month) as one of the best in their client portfolio.
  • Celebration of Champions: The Celebration of Champions is an annual recognition event that celebrates our company’s top performers. The two day celebration is held offsite at a prominent resort at the beginning of each fiscal year. The celebration includes motivational speakers, live entertainment, interactive activities and delicious meals. All “champions” receive a substantial award including silver and gold Rolex watches (valued over $10,000 each), up to $1,000 cash, and new mattress sets (valued at $3,000). The Champion categories include: President Club Sales, Million Dollar Club Sales, Outlet Center Sales, Clearance Center Sales, Store Managers, Customer Care Managers, Customer Delivery Teams, and Expert Furniture Technicians. Special awards are also given to: Wellness Ambassador Champion, Spirit Champion, Safety Champion and Community Outreach Champion. The January 2018 event included professional speaker Kevin Brown, a performance by Broadways stars from Rock of Ages and a team building challenge by the Go Game.
  • Wellness Program: Raymour & Flanigan is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our associates, as well as helping them to become more educated health care consumers. We offer discounted wellness rates for our health insurance plans to all who pass a metabolic syndrome and nicotine screening. Free health coaching and tobacco cessation programs are available to anyone who wants to improve in an area such as eating, exercising or stress management. Our Get Active on-line platform is widely used by associates and spouses for team-based and individual challenges to help promote healthy habits. Many locations have held contests such as the “Biggest Loser” to promote wellness. Each of our 19 regions elects a Wellness Ambassador each year to drive healthy behaviors by leading the way as a role model and organizing exciting initiatives. Many associates participate in the Raymour & Flanigan running club and over 100 associates run in the Syracuse Corporate Challenge annually!

With almost 6,000 associates at over 125 locations across six states, we hire candidates who align with our Guiding Principles. Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Due to the opening of up to 10 new locations in 2019, we project to hire an additional 500 associates including part time and full time home furnishing sales consultants, customer care, and operations support. We will continue to seek delivery teams and over the road trailer drivers in order to fulfill our three day delivery commitment for our customers.  As our company grows, we continue to look for specialized talent for Information Technology, Marketing, and E-Commerce for our expanding Field Support Center in Syracuse, NY.
