Perks and Programs

We asked Polyvore, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Yellow Umbrella Award:: On a monthly basis, we do a peer award called the Yellow Umbrella Award. The winner is chosen by the previous month’s recipient, and receives $500 to spend on the company. Past winners have used the award to fund a foosball table, scotch tasting, ice cream truck, bean bag chair, snow cone machine, gift to our janitor, etc.
  • Freebie Friday: In addition to catering meals in the office Monday-Thursday, every Friday employees can enjoy lunch in downtown Mountain View at the expense of the company.
  • Polyfit: Throughout the year, we organize various healthy activities to encourage wellness. This includes a healthy "bake-off", publishing a healthy cookbook of employee's recipes and organizing team runs every Tuesday after work. Each employee is paid a take home amount of $200/month (which we gross up on behalf of the employee) with the intended use towards wellness and/or commuting costs.

Are there any unusual or especially rigorous steps of your hiring process that candidates should be aware of?

Our engineering bar is high, and we intend on keeping it that way. We except candidates to be prepared to answer technical questions, and discuss how to solve problems. Our interview process for both non-technical and technical positions is standard - 1 initial phone screen and then a full on-site interview.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We're currently looking to staff up our front-end engineering team.
