  • Outstanding Benefits: Nugget Markets is one of just a handful of Top 100 Companies that still pay 100% of the associates’ insurance premiums. Part-time associates are eligible for full-time benefits, and it only takes an average of 22 hours per week to qualify for comprehensive Medical, Dental, Prescription Drug and Vision care—the same benefits plan the CEO and his family enjoy! With a 4% 401K match and profit sharing, associates are set up nicely for retirement, and a long-term disability insurance policy and company-paid life insurance give added comfort.
  • Flexible Scheduling/Work-Life Balance: Year after year, a top benefit that comes out in the Great Place to Work® survey process is the care and desire that managers take to work around associates’ extracurricular activities and school schedules. Overtime is happily paid when needed, and only 44 associates in the company work salaried positions. Associates can earn up to 5 weeks of paid vacation time, with up to an additional 56 hours of PTO annually for work-life balance.
  • Recognition/Awards/10% Discount: Seems very simple, but the fact that this company goes out of its way to recognize associates for doing a great job goes a long way in building the company culture! Leaders are always looking for ways to praise in public. U Make Us Better Cards (acknowledging a job well done) are handed out by all associates, making recipients eligible for weekly drawings and cash prizes. “Düer” shirts are handed out at company gatherings, providing an ultimate sense of accomplishment. All associates enjoy 10% off their groceries.
  • Communication is Key: This company’s associates never stop improving their communication with one another, and monthly communication task force meetings set the foundation and drive. As part of the company-wide communication framework, electronic message boards display videos, photos, messages and public recognitions of associates. Associates are rewarded for “being in the know” about company messaging and have a chance of winning up to $500! 360-Degree Reviews, where all department leaders are reviewed by the associates they lead, are a key element for leadership growth and development.
  • Associate Referral Bonus Program: With growth, our need for quality new associates is greater than ever and our existing associates are our best source of referrals. If an associate's referral candidate is hired, the referring associate receives a $100 bonus once the new hire passes their 90 day mark. An additional $400 is paid after the new hire has been with us 6 months. Referring associates are also entered into a drawing, held 3 times per year, with a grand prize of either a trip for 2 to Disneyland, including airfare and lodging, or a dinner for 2 at Napa's famous French Laundry restaurant, including lodging at a fine nearby hotel.
  • Annual Smokers Challenge: In the style of a New Year's resolution, our CEO throws out a January challenge each year to all our associates who smoke, offering them $1,000 to quit, cold turkey. They are awarded $500 after their first 6 months without smoking. At the end of the year, they receive an additional $500 if they have remained smoke free for the entire year.
  • Return to Learn Enrichment Workshops: Each year, our associates are given the opportunity to take a class or workshop of their choosing, to enhance their skill sets or explore new directions.The classes cover a wide range of topics, from Fresh Pasta Making, Cake Decorating, CPR/First Aid, Intro to Wines, and field trips to local vendors such as cheese-making companies, flower growing operations, honeybee farms, and local organic producers. Best of all, these sessions are paid time for our associates. It's a hugely popular program.
  • Industry Leading Wages: Nugget Markets has always been proud to offer industry leading wages, and now we have stepped it up even further. Effective November 5th, 2018, our company-wide minimum wage is $15.00 per hour. The only exception to that rate is our entry-level courtesy clerk (bagger) position, which pays $12.50 per hour. Along with these wage increases, we continue to provide a generous benefits package and excellent opportunities for advancement and long-term careers. ​

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We look for people who are enthusiastic, have a positive attitude and are willing to provide friendly, helpful service. Because we encourage our associates to have fun at work, a cheerful person with a sense of humor is a plus. Our family’s culture is built on inclusion, providing support for each other and striving to become better, so we also seek out people with a willingness to learn and who appreciate the value of teamwork. Candidates must be personable and enjoy engaging with others—make direct eye contact and SMILE!

Our goal is to find people who have a passion for delicious food. While we always hire people for entry-level positions, our current focus is on our Kitchen and Bakery departments, filling roles that require specialized skills, such as chefs, production cooks, cake decorators and bread bakers. At Nugget, our associates enjoy an excellent work-life balance and the opportunity to have a fulfilling career utilizing their talents!
