We asked Nordstrom, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Employee Discount: Beginning on their first day working at Nordstrom, all employees (and their eligible dependents) receive a 20 percent discount at Nordstrom stores, Rack stores, Nordstrom.com, NordstromRack.com and HauteLook.com. Managers, and others who have received specific recognition, receive a 33 percent discount in Nordstrom stores and online. Employees also receive a 20 percent discount at Spa Nordstrom, Monday through Wednesday, and discounts are available every day at Nordstrom restaurants, cafés and specialty coffee bars. Three times a year—for one week each in February, May and September—employees enjoy an extra 40 percent discount on all Nordstrom Product Group (NPG) merchandise. Just before the holidays, employees enjoy House Party, a designated week during which they receive an enhanced discount. A 20% discount jumps to 30%, a 33% discount becomes 40%, and everyone gets 30% at the Rack.
  • Employee Charitable Match and Volunteer program: Beginning on an employee's first day of employment, Nordstrom will match their contributions of cash or volunteer time to eligible nonprofits starting at $25 – up to $5,000 each fiscal year.
  • Wellness Program and Incentive: Nordstrom offers on-site events, screenings and health assessments, and other resources to encourage employees to take charge of their health. Employees can save up to $300 on their medical plan premiums each year through the company’s Wellness Incentive.
  • Parental Leave and New Parent Programs: Under our new paid parental leave policy, eligible new parents receive 100% paid leave to bond with their child. Eligible birth moms can receive up to 12 weeks paid at 100% and all other eligible parents receive up to six weeks paid at 100%. This benefit is available to every Nordstrom employee, regardless of their title. Nordstrom reimburses employees up to $2,000 for adoption expenses for each attempted or successful adoption, up to an $8,000 lifetime maximum. Employees or their partners who enroll in the Beginning Right® Maternity Program can earn a $400 Nordstrom gift card to help them stock up on baby basics.
  • 401(k): Employees are eligible to receive company matching contributions to their 401(k) after one year of employment. The company matches dollar for dollar up to 4% of eligible pay. We may make an additional match, based on company performance, of up to $0.50 per $1 contributed (to a max of 2% of eligible pay).
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP): As part of our Employee Stock Purchase Plan, eligible employees have an opportunity to purchase Nordstrom stock at a 10% discount off the closing market price on the date of purchase, subject to Plan limits.
  • Transit Subsidy: All employees are eligible to receive up to $100 per month toward monthly transit expenses.
  • Sabbatical Program: Nordstrom offers an unpaid sabbatical leave to employees with 10 or more eligible years of service. Employees can take a sabbatical of up to six continuous weeks.
  • Top Seller Recognition: Each year, we celebrate the accomplishments of our Top Sellers—the top 1% of salespeople across the company—by inviting them and a guest to an all-expenses-paid weekend getaway. Employees can relax and also spend time with leaders in the company, learning more about our company and the future of our business.
