We asked MSU Federal Credit Union to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Wellness Incentive: MSUFCU provides up to a $260 cash incentive program for leading a healthy lifestyle. Employees earn points for participating in sports leagues, races, receiving their annual wellness checks, and participating in the CU Healthy quarterly challenges.
  • Community Involvement: MSUFCU offers employees a variety of opportunities to be involved in the community. In 2016 employees raised $79,272 for Small Talk and $115,460 for the Capital Area United Way. There are also several volunteer opportunities offered throughout the year. We have partnered with the Capital Area Humane Society, ePIFany Now, and Junior Achievement.
  • Free Medical Benefits: MSUFCU pays the premium for medical, dental, and vision for employees and their dependents. Medical coverage begins on the first day of employment and vision and dental begin after six months.
  • Annual Dinner: Each year MSUFCU hosts our Annual Awards Dinner. We recognize employees reaching milestone years of service and celebrate everything the Credit Union accomplished in the past year. Crystal Awards are also presented to five to six employees who exemplify what the Credit Union represents. In 2016 we also presented our first Volunteer of the Year award. This employee exemplifies our core value of giving back to the community.
  • Summer Picnic: MSUFCU hosts a Summer Picnic for employees and their families. Each year we offer a variety of inflatable games and obstacle courses as well as face painting, yard games, and lots of food! This event is a great way for employees to spend time with their departments and families.
  • Volunteer Time Off: MSUFCU offers full time employees 8 hours of volunteer time off and part time employees 5 hours annually. Employees can use this time to volunteer at any 501(c)(3) organization. In the program’s first six months employees logged over 300 hours of volunteer time off.
  • Paid Time Off: MSUFCU offers full time employees eight hours of PTO per pay period. This is a maximum of 26 days per year, plus eight paid holidays. This time can be used as vacation, sick, or personal time. After five years of service this increases to 10 hours and after 10 years of service it increases to 12 hours.
  • Employee Enrichment courses: Employees are able to sign up for a three different enrichment courses, budgeting, purchasing a home, and purchasing a car. Employees are able to learn about the different processes involved for this and ask questions regarding the various topics. It is a great way to help employees through major milestones in their life.
  • Professional Development: Our Learning and Talent Development department offers a variety of classes throughout the year to help employees develop within their careers. Employees are able to take classes to help them learn more about a specific product or service, gain leadership skills, and find ways to serve the member better.

We asked MSU Federal Credit Union for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

There are a variety of characteristics in potential employees that we look for. Being able to articulate how they been able to contribute to their communities and show a commitment to helping the community is important. We also look for candidates who will be passionate about our members and will go above and beyond for them. Everyday employees are making member’s dreams come true by providing them with superior service and accessing their needs and offering suggestions. Being able to express oneself clearly in their interactions with others is also a key characteristic. We communicate with members and peers through a variety of channels and it is important that employees can share ideas and information accurately and concisely to avoid any confusion.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Prospective employees can get our attention by showing genuine interest and passion for the job. It is important for the candidates to be excited about the job and helping our members so that we can continue to provide superior service. We are passionate about our mission, core values, and the work we do, so it is important to see this same enthusiasm in candidates. We promote a fun environment, with caring employees who want to give back to the community, take care of our members, and continue to grow and develop.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

As our membership grows, we will need more resources and employees to continue to provide our members with superior service. Due to this growth we are projected to have 1,000 employees by 2021! Our increasing number of members and employees will allow us to also expand our suite of products, services, and innovative technology. We will need more employees in our Information Technology departments to help develop stay current with our mobile app and website, as well as more employees to answer member questions over the phone, online, and in person. Our Call Center, eServices Department, and branches will continue to grow over the course of the next year to help meet these needs. We will continually be looking for individuals who are passionate about helping others and believe in our mission.
