Perks and Programs

We asked MSU Federal Credit Union to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • 100% Employer Paid Healthcare: MSUFCU covers 100% of the premium for healthcare, dental, and vision for full time employees and their dependents. Health care coverage begins on their first day of employment and dental and vision start after six months. Part time employees are able to purchase this coverage.
  • Paid Time Off: MSUFCU offers full time employees eight hours of PTO per pay period. This is a maximum of 26 days per year, plus eight paid holidays. This time can be used as vacation, sick, or personal time. After five years of service this increases to 10 hours per pay period and after 10 years of service it increases to 12 hours per pay period. Part time employees also accrue paid time off. They earn 5 hours per pay period, this increases to 6 hours after 5 years of service and 7 hours after 10 years of service.
  • CU Healthy Program: There are many CU Healthy programs available to employees. We offer a yearly flu shot clinic and health and wellness fair, quarterly health challenges, an incentive program and so much more! Employees have the chance to win $260 a year by participating in our incentive program. Employees earn points for the incentive program by attending credit union sponsored races and sports leagues, getting their annual checkups, meal prepping for the week and various other tasks.
  • Volunteer Time Off: An important part of our culture and one of our core values is giving back to the community. We offer full time employees eight hours of VTO a year and part time employees five hours to spend giving back to the community. Employees can use this time individually but quite often teams volunteer together. Volunteer Time Off is a great way to bring our employees closer to the community and support many great local organizations. In 2017 employees logged over 1,300 hours of VTO.
  • Summer Picnic: MSUFCU hosts a Summer Picnic for employees and their families each summer. Each year we offer a variety of inflatable games and obstacle courses as well as face painting, yard games, and lots of food! In 2018 we added a beer tent to better reach all of our employees. Of age employees and guests were given two drink tickets to use at the event. The picnic is a great way for employees to spend time with their departments and families while having fun!
  • Annual Awards Dinner: Each year the Credit Union hosts our Annual Awards Dinner. This event recognizes employees who have reached milestone years of service as well as our Crystal Award and Volunteer of the Year award winners. Everyone enjoys a plated meal together and there are also raffle prizes for employees to enter for and fun videos to highlight all of the Credit Union's accomplishments throughout the year. The Crystal Awards and Volunteer of the Year are both employee nominated awards. Crystal Award winners foster an atmosphere of respect, integrity, fairness, and professionalism. Employees who are honored with a Crystal Award also receive $500. The Volunteer of the Year is an employee who exemplifies our core value of giving back to the community. They receive $500 to donate to an organization of their choice. Employees don't know they're receiving these awards so it's fun to celebrate with them that evening!
  • Community Involvement: There are a variety of ways for employees to get involved with the communities that we live and work in. Employees can volunteer to be on our internal CU Involved Committee, volunteer at Credit Union events in the community, or just volunteer on their own! The CU Involved Committee is responsible for the fundraising and volunteer opportunities for our selected charity partners for the year. They work closely with our charity partners to organize a volunteer event quarterly as well as plan multiple fundraisers throughout the year. In 2017 the committee raised over $200,000 for our five charity partners! There are also opportunities to represent the Credit Union at many events in our community. In 2017 employees volunteered over 3,000 hours in the community! Our goal for 2018 is 4,000 hours!
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program: One of MSUFCU's core values is pursuing growth and development, this is supported through our tuition reimbursement program. The Credit Union will pay for two classes per semester or term as well as tuition, books, lab fees, and registration expenses for eligible employees. This program provides financial assistance to employees to continue their formal education which helps employees achieve their individual career goals with the Credit Union.
  • CU Connect: CU Connect is an interactive feature on our employee intranet, the Loop. Employees can use hashtags, post pictures, and tag other employees in posts. Employees have the ability to use 16 different hashtags to share member feedback, shout out other employees, announce a marriage, the arrival of a baby, or post items for sale. In 2017, we had 4,586 posts to Connect from 615 employees. Connect is an important tool for employees to engage with each other from all across the Credit Union and recognize each other for going above and beyond!
  • Generous 401(k) Plan: MSUFCU matches $2 for every $1 employees contribute to their 401(k) plan up to 5% of their gross salary. Employees are eligible to make contributions the first of the month following their hire date and the Credit Union contributions start after one year of employment. Employees are fully vested in our plan after three years of employment. We are very proud of the fact that 94% of employees participate on our 401(k) plan!

How to Get Hired

We asked MSU Federal Credit Union for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

There are a variety of characteristics that we look for in candidates. We are looking for potential employees who share the same core values as the credit union: passionate about the community, demonstrate honesty and integrity, and understand the value of providing superior service to members and co-workers. Potential candidates are drawn to the credit union because of these guiding principals. They enjoy helping others and display a positive attitude and are eager to learn. Cultivating a diverse workforce is also important to the credit union. Bringing fresh ideas and a new way of thinking is important as we continue to grow as an organization.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Prospective employees can get our attention by showing genuine interest and passion for the job. It is important for the candidates to be excited about the work that we do and helping members so that we can continue to provide superior service. We are passionate about our mission, core values, and the work we do, so it is important to see this same enthusiasm in candidates. We promote a fun environment, with caring employees who want to give back to the community, take care of our members, and continue to grow and develop.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

As our membership grows, we will need more resources and employees to continue to provide our members with superior service. Due to this growth we are projected to have 1,000 employees by 2020! Our increasing number of members and employees will allow us to also expand our suite of products, services, and innovative technology. We will need more employees in our Information Technology departments to help develop  and stay current with our mobile app and website, as well as more employees to answer member questions over the phone, online, and in person. Our Call Center, eServices, and branches will continue to grow over the course of the next year to help meet these needs. We will continually be looking for individuals who are passionate about helping others and believe in our mission and core values.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

People who are interested in working at MSU Federal Credit Union should visit our careers website, www.msufcu.org/careers, to learn more about our culture, benefits, and core values. They can also browse current, open positions and get an understanding of what we do at the Credit Union and the various ways we help our members. Once a candidate has researched MSUFCU and believes they would be a good fit, they can apply for a position that aligns with their goals and skill set.
