  • Morningstar Scholars Program: The goal of Morningstar’s global tuition assistance and development program, Morningstar Scholars, is to provide assistance to eligible employees pursuing an advanced degree while continuing their employment with Morningstar. We believe that by investing in our employees’ education and development, Morningstar will become a stronger company.
  • Sabbatical Program: Regular, full-time employees who are continuing their employment with Morningstar are eligible for a sabbatical leave of up to six weeks in length after every four years of completed service. Employees continue to receive full salary and benefits while on sabbatical.
  • Educational Stipend: Morningstar strives to provide ways for employees to improve their skills and knowledge by providing an annual spend of $1,000 per employee. Employees are able to choose how to use their educational stipend. It can be applied toward books, seminars, conferences, journals, professional memberships, and/or study materials. We also provide another stipend covering the chartered financial analyst exams and membership.
  • Employee Resources Groups: We welcome all affinity and employee resource groups. ERGs create a safe and supportive space for all and can help increase employee engagement and satisfaction. ERGs are important to attracting new talent to Morningstar, connecting networks, people and other organizations to our Talent & Culture with diversity recruitment efforts. They often help facilitate Morningstar's community outreach relations across other companies, organizations, and universities. Morningstar's Employee Resource Groups include Morningstar's Women's Initative (WIN), Out at Morningstar (O@M), Morningstar Latinx Community (VIVA), Morningstar Black, Caribbean, and African Network (BCA), Men as Allies, and Morningstar Indian Affinity (Jai Ho).
  • Employer Funding for Health Savings Accounts: Morningstar provides funding for employees’ Health Savings Accounts. We fund $500 annually for employee-only coverage and $1,000 annually if an employee has family coverage.
  • Global Mindfulness Program with Whil: Morningstar understands that everything starts with your physical and emotional well-being. In Fall of 2018, Morningstar began offering the Whil app to all Global employees. Through mindfulness practice, Whil offers over 1500 audiovisual sessions covering 12 aspects of well-being and performance, created with top MDs, PhDs, and trainers in psychological resilience, tailored to fit your personal and professional needs. Whil offers demographically and situationally specific video curricula, e.g., courses for parents, thriving in a creative industry, maintaining resilience in the financial industry, and women in STEM.
  • Development Programs: Morningstar has a long and successful history of hiring smart, talented people, often right out of college or early in their careers as part of the Morningstar Development Program, and then bringing them up as future leaders of our organization. Hallmarks of the program continue to include moving through business-critical roles such as customer service, where recent grads get boot-camp style training on Morningstar’s clients and products, and research, to gain a deep understanding of the data that fuels Morningstar’s business. Morningstar also offers a manager training program "Advancing Leaders" that is rooted in our mission and core values and designed to help our leaders develop new leadership skills that encourage and support our people.   • Bright Horizons - Backup Childcare: Morningstar has partnered with Bright Horizons, a leader in backup child care, to provide full time employees with up to 20 days of backup child care per child per year.
  • Pre-tax Commuter Benefits : Morningstar employees can pay for up to $260 of commuting expenses on a pre-tax basis.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We look for curious, bright, driven, hard-working people who enjoy collaboration and camaraderie and adhere to the highest ethical standards. We value independent thinkers who have excellent communication skills. Regardless of personal interests, applicants should be guided by a strong desire to change things for the better. We prize creativity and analytical ability; a varied, interesting background gets our attention as well. You’ll find people at all levels of the company with degrees that range from Russian Literature to History, English to Finance, and Psychology to Anthropology. 

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Write a great cover letter. Demonstrate genuineness and confidence in one's own skin, and a true understanding and interest in Morningstar and creating better outcomes for investors. True excitement comes through in an applicant's tone in written and verbal communication, follow up, attention to detail, and thoughtful questions.  

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We believe in hiring for leadership and core skills and then training on specialized skills.  Examples: Hire good writers and train for investment analysis to develop fund analysts. Hire C developers and train for .NET.  technologists. We have a lot of opportunities available and we are going to work hard in the upcoming year to get the word out about our opportunities.
