MOD Squad

Perks and Programs

We asked MOD Pizza to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • MOD Bridge Fund: The idea behind the Bridge Fund is MODs helping MODs. We always say that the MOD Squad is our family, and we have their back. The Bridge Fund is designed to be a source of support for any MOD employee in times of unexpected emergencies. Distributions are approved by an anonymous committee of MOD employees in a timely manner, so prompt support can be provided. The Fund is support by several sources: MOD donates 100% of all sales from the final training day ("Bridge Day") of each new store openings and individual donations are made by store employees, the executive team, Support Center employees, investors and board members.
  • Spreading MODness: With every store opening, MOD donates 100% of all pizza sales to a local nonprofit - and often grassroots - organization that serves the community where we are doing business. The goal is twofold: We want to help build better communities, and we want to provide inspiring opportunities for our Squads to connect with and support local causes. This is not only at the core of MOD, but it is part of an ongoing effort that lets our teams experience the gift of giving and gratitude. During the week of Thanksgiving is Spreading MODness week, where we donate $1.00 from every pizza sold, in all stores, to a local nonprofit that supports at risk youth and families. This year, we expect to donate over $375,000, and to strengthen the culture of giving and gratitude for our MOD Squads.
  • MOD All Stars: Hourly Squad Members chosen to be a part of the "All Star" team and travel the country to train new Squads - both practical training and sharing the MOD culture. MOD considers its All Stars to culture carriers and responsible for ensuring that our culture continues to spread as we grow across the US and beyond. For many of our All Stars, the opportunity to travel across the U.S. is not only an exciting perk, but it is a chance to meet and connect with MOD Squads around the country, helping to build and strengthen the MOD family.
  • Profit Sharing Program: MOD's bi-yearly profit sharing bonus program is awarded to General Managers, Assistant General Manager and Shift Leaders, based on their store performance.
  • Snap Shot Bonus Program: Our monthly operations bonus program is based on key performance indicators related to: store cleanliness, quality of product and overall MOD guest experience. All hourly Squad members participate and share in the reward. Last year over $200,000 was awarded to our store teams.
  • School of MOD: Quarterly, MOD sponsors "School of MOD" -  our culture and personal development program for all MOD Management Squad members. Managers are brought to Seattle from across the country to meet, learn and immerse themselves into the culture of MOD. The three day program includes: dinner with our founders; deep dive into our history; mission and value training; professional development; management training, communication style training; meet-and-greet breakfast with members of the executive team; happy hour with the Support Center Squad, and a full "Culture Tour" of MOD's original restaurants.
  • Meeting of the MODs: Our annual "Meeting of the MODs" brings together all store managers for a three-day inspirational event focused on developing our teams, celebrating our successes and sharing MOD's vision for the future. The event includes an inspirational keynote speaker (this past year we welcomed John Foley, former Blue Angel pilot), and culminates with a dinner, awards ceremony and celebratory party.
  • Feeding Our Squad: With the goal of filling the hearts and bellies of our MOD Squads, we provide each Squad member with a free meal and beverage during every shift. Last year, MOD provided over 500,000 meals totaling more than three million dollars in pizzas and salads. Additionally, all MOD employees receive 50% off all food and beverages for themselves and their immediate family when dining at any MOD location.
  • Market Stars: Hourly Squad Members are given the opportunity to become a Market Star to support MOD stores in various geographical markets.  Chose Market Stars act as liaisons to local charities and community organizations, host new store opening events, and serve as MOD ambassadors in the local community.
  • Culture of Inclusion: We believe that everyone deserves a family and a safe place to call home. Along with our belief that everyone deserves a second chance, we are also focused on providing meaningful employment to individuals with barriers to meaningful employment - for example, individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, brain injuries and other developmental issues. MOD recently received the "Second Chance Employer of the Year Award" by CTPS in Washington State, for our work with formerly incarcerated individuals. We participate in the Second Chance Summit hosted by the Dave's Killer Bread Foundation which is focused on encouraging other employers to provide opportunities to those with criminal backgrounds.  In addition, we are a member of 100K Club, which is focused on providing jobs to opportunity youth - those between 18-22, who are not in school and not working, and are actively involved in a campaign to encourage other employers to consider hiring these youth.

How to Get Hired

We asked MOD Pizza for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We seek individuals with a passion for people who want to work in a fast-paced, exciting environment. Our Squad members should have perseverance and passion for setting and achieving goals. MOD celebrates the diversity of our employees, choosing to focus on personality and drive rather than putting unnecessary emphasis on prior food service experience. Our interview process focuses on values based questions to gauge potential employee's grit, generosity and gratitude for life's journey. To become a part of the MOD Squad, we seek individuals who can provide specific examples of their personal and professional growth, acceptance of others, the ability to make connections with their co-workers, a passion for developing others, and who show humility with confidence during the interview process. We are not focused on hiring for pizza making abilities - what we look for is passion and potential!

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Connect with us on Social Media outlets: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, email us at MOD Careers, or submit resumes to the Support Center via the MOD website.  For new stores, interested individuals are invited to participate in the store's Job Fair, which is held three weeks prior to the store opening. For existing stores, stop by a MOD location to drop off a resume. Be yourself during your interview and tell us about your passions!  If you are committed to doing the right thing, we can make you a great pizza maker.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We are on track to open an additional 50 stores before the end of 2017 – and plan to continue an aggressive growth plan into 2018, which will include hiring approximately 25 MOD Squad members for each new location.  As we develop geographic markets, we will be hiring District and Market Managers to oversee specific regions across the U.S. In addition, our Support Center, located in Bellevue, WA will continue to build out our support teams – construction, accounting, HR, real estate, IT, marketing and operations.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Candidates can visit our website and see where MOD is currently operating, and where we will be growing. On our website, candidates can also learn about the MOD story and why we are focused on building a business that strives to make positive impacts on as many people as possible. And rather than hear it all from us, they can check out our news page to see our MOD Squad up in lights – on TV, radio and in print. They can learn where we’ve come from, and all of the great things along the way. Most importantly, they should visit a MOD store to experience for themselves why we’re different!
