Perks and Programs

We asked Miami Children's Health System to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Employees share in MCHS' success: Through Miami Children's SuccessSharing Program, employees can earn up to $1,200 every year when the organization reaches its budgeted operating margin and achieves its patient satisfaction and clinical index measures. This is a way for employees to share in the successes of the organization and strive to make patients' experiences even better.
  • Helping employees grow professionally: Miami Children's Health System is focused on the growth and development of its internal talent by providing them with career coaching and professional development resources. That is why, in response to employees' comments, the organization developed a Career Paths program that guides employees through their development and eventually into their desired career goals. Proving to be on the leading edge of workplace transformation and empowerment, the program gives employees an insight into their potential areas of opportunities within the organization. Since the program’s inception in 2015, 88 staff level employees have participated, five have been promoted; 235 leaders have been engaged, 48 have been promoted; and 47 emerging leaders have been identified.
  • Creating healthy lifestyles: The health and wellness of MCHS' employees and their families is of utmost importance to the leadership team. The Healthy Lifestyles program was created to provide employees and their insured spouses/domestic partners with the ability to monitor their health on an annual basis by providing them with a comprehensive health assessment that can be shared with their primary care physician. Through the assessment, personal health goals are created. The program offers many resources including a personal health coach to help them maintain their wellness with programs including weight loss, tobacco-free life, cholesterol management and much more. Added program bonus: when employees achieve their personal health goals, they earn lower medical health insurance premiums. Great for their health and their wallets!
  • Celebrating employees' dedication: Every year, Miami Children's Health System recognizes employees for their years of service and loyalty to the organization. Employees with 5, 10, 15, 20, all the way up to sometimes 50 years of service are invited to an annual dinner and celebration and receive a special gift. Members of the senior leadership team host the event and give a special presentation before employees celebrate the night away by dancing. Those employees with 10 years of service or more also receive a special bonus ranging from $500 to $2500 (depending on their years of service).
  • Wellness resources to fit all needs: Miami Children's Health System not only provides employees with a way to assess their current health status but provides an array of resources for them to maintain or achieve their desired wellness goals. With in-house programs such as Lose to Win, weekly farmers' market, on-site dietitian, fitness centers at various locations, walking treadmill stations, there are ways for employees to create healthy lifestyles with their desired methods. Our Lose to Win program is a FREE 6-month weight management program that provides employees who have a BMI of over 35 with access to personal trainers, personalize meal plans, clinicians that monitor their health throughout the program and much more to help them reach their weight loss goals.
  • In-house Nurse Liaison: Through our medical insurance provider, United Healthcare, MCHS employees have access to an in-house nurse liaison who is available to discuss medical topics, insurance questions, lifestyle behaviors and much more. The program offers employees another resource that includes prevention education, weight management and disease management support for conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and others.
  • Get educated, get money: Education assistance is available to all benefits-eligible employees who have been with Miami Children's Health System for at least twelve months. The Tuition Reimbursement program is designed specifically for healthcare professional degree programs, leadership programs, technical courses and certificate training programs which improve knowledge and skills of employees and promote their professional and career development. Tuition reimbursement amounts vary depending on employment status (full-time vs. part-time) and the type of degree or certificate they are trying to achieve. Minimum is $2,000 and maximum is $5,250 per year.
  • Communicating across the generations: Miami Children's understands the need to communicate differently in order to convey the same message across all generations. This is why our employee communications strategy for any and all messages involves multiple venues for sharing information. Some of the tools we use include: mass text messaging - to deliver information to employees at any time and anywhere; emails - to be viewed when possible; monthly Town Halls - where our senior leadership team answers any questions from employees (nothing is off the table); home mailers - to reach employees even at home; social media - for those who rather interact with the organization; daily huddles at the unit and team level; and many other ways to ensure important information is received by all employees.
  • Let's celebrate everything: At Miami Children's Health System and Nicklaus Children's Hospital, every day is a cause for celebration when the health of children is involved. This is why the organization has a strong belief in celebrating all of our successes whether big or small. Employees can expect celebrations at least three times per year including ice cream socials, holiday celebrations, professional celebrations (like Research Awareness Month and others that are similar) and much more. The passion that caregivers put into their everyday work is always a reason to celebrate. And MCHS believes that happy employees create happy and healthy children in our community and beyond.
