Halloween is a big - and we mean big - deal at Medidata! Each year, we throw an in-office party at our locations around the globe, with food, drinks, costume contests and more. This year, the weather was warm enough to host the NYC party outside on our terrace.

Perks and Programs

We asked Medidata Solutions to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program: Allows employees to purchase Medidata stock at a 15% discount every six months and carry the lowest purchase price forward for two years. There is no holding requirement, employees may sell their stock upon purchase. Typical ESPP's have ~30% employee participation, we have 63% of our employees participating. This is top in the industry.
  • Annual restricted stock equity grants: Each year ~40% of our employees receive a restricted stock grant based on their contribution; evaluation is based on the impact of their role and their sustained performance. The grant vests annually over 4 years and is used as a retention incentive.
  • Summer and Winter Parties: The entire company celebrates two major parties per year. The executive staff travels to each location (Tokyo, London, and various U.S. locations) to attend and celebrate with employees. We provide top level catering, open bar, and music. Our own employee band; MDSOUL, starts the music portion of the event and then turns it over to a DJ.
  • Global Halloween Events: In addition to our summer and winter parties the entire company celebrates Halloween in grand style. Our CEO and President hire outside costume designers to make their costumes, setting the stage for everyone to get in the spirit. The entire exec staff also dresses up, encouraging their teams to compete for best team awards. A global website is created for all employees to vote on numerous categories; best team; most scary; most creative; etc. The company provides food and beverages during the noon through 3:00 p.m. event across the globe.
  • Ask Exec: We provide an anonymous website for employees to ask anything they wish to any exec. The questions range from asking about a product release to opening new offices. It is one of our "ear to the ground" communication tools, understanding that many employees are not co-located with the exec team so this provides an avenue to get their questions presented.
  • Medidata Express: Our internal Intranet provides a vast amount of company information from our product roadmap to a social portal for employees to share their special occasions and events, including family photos, pet pictures, and vacation photos.
  • Women's Initiative: The Medidata Women’s Initiative aims to provide a framework for women of all levels and positions within Medidata to meet, exchange ideas and develop networks, allowing us to collaborate, support and encourage each other to reach our full personal and professional potential.
  • Summer Internships: We provide internships for NYC's "Ladders for Leaders," which target disadvantaged youth's to introduce them to the work environment and provide hope and guidance on how to prepare for college and a professional career. We also recruit interns from 9 universities focusing on women and diversity candidates.
  • Patent Program: We recognize and reward our employees for submitting patent recommendations to protect our IP rights. Employee's receive $500 for a filing, $5,000 for a patent grant, a plaque displayed in the corporate lobby and a "Medidata Inventor" designation in their title. A yearly innovation award is selected and an employee , or employees if it is a joint patent, are given the opportunity to select a conference of their choice to attend. We provide any employee two weeks away from their day to day activities to work on "innovation time."
  • Facilities that support employee and environmental needs: Our offices provide lactation rooms for Moms, Wellness, and Meditation/Quiet time, on-site showers, bike racks, game rooms, height adjustable desks, ergonomic furniture including computer installations that are adjustable for employee comfort. Our commitment to social responsibility includes buildings that are LEED certified. Last year we invested $2.5 million in our offices to guarantee LEED certification.

We screen candidates to determine a great fit if they are passionate about our mission: “powering smarter treatments and healthier people”. Our company has re-invented the way clinical trials are conducted. Our products and services disrupt every aspect of the clinical trial process. In turn, we are looking for people who are committed to experimenting with new concepts, testing new technologies, and are tenacious in helping our partners develop drugs that save lives.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

In technology, we are focused on the full range of cloud software and application engineers including engineers with C#, .Net, Ruby,Mobile (iOS and Andrioid), UX Design, Product Manager & Business Analyst experience. We also need Project Managers with PMP certification. We are also looking for enterprise sales talent with expertise in selling cloud-based software solution or sold into life sciences.  Our products are essential to helping our customers and partners. And, of course, we need the full range of corporate roles to support our aggressive top-line growth goals of 20+% per year.
