Perks and Programs

We asked Matrix Service Company to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Safety: Safety is our number one core value. In our business, where employees can be exposed to dangerous situations, protecting our people and those around them is paramount. We want everyone going home to their loved ones safely at the end of each day. Beginning with our CEO, our safety culture is embedded throughout our organization. Employees receive extensive safety training with the goal of zero incidents. Our culture encourages employees to take responsibility to eliminate a safety hazard, including stopping work if needed. Employees identify what they value most as a daily reminder to always work safe – we call it our Big 5. We also invest in programs and technology to analyze, understand and eliminate potential future safety risks.
  • Health and Wellness: Our robust health and wellness programs are designed to help our employees and their families live healthier, more rewarding lives. Our employees have access to free annual health and biometric screenings, to tobacco cessation programs and to an employee assistance program (EAP) which for some has been life-saving. The EAP is available 24/7 and provides our employees with guidance and direction when most needed. Employees also have access to resources to help them achieve a healthier lifestyle like free onsite/near-site clinics, virtual doctors, gym reimbursements, discounted fees for Weight Watchers and healthy snack delivery. Our leadership encourages employees to be proactive in taking control of their health and well-being. Because of this encouragement, many employees have walking meetings and others have come together to go to local trails and walk as a team. Employees receive a monthly Health Bulletin at home giving them tips on how they can stay healthy.
  • Career Growth and Development: At Matrix, employees drive our success and represent our most important competitive advantage. Providing development opportunities is one of the best ways to ensure our employees continue to flourish and meet their professional goals. Matrix provides all employees with opportunities for instructor-led training, more than 250 online training modules, self-paced training programs, company-wide lunch and learns, formal leadership programs and a Peer Advisor Program for new employees. The company encourages employees to take 40 hours or more of training annually. In addition, we offer a two-year leadership program for recent college graduates, formal project management training and a robust field supervisor development program. We also offer an internship program to students nearing graduation. Additionally, Matrix will reimburse full-time employees college tuition, up to $5,250 a year, to allow them to pursue a degree to better achieve their goals.
  • Community Involvement: Making a difference at a community level is core to who we are. We believe being of service to the communities in which we live and work is both a privilege and an obligation. Our employees are encouraged to volunteer, join boards and give back. We provide 8 hours of paid time off each year per employee for non-company related volunteer activities, match individual employee contributions to an organization of their choice up to $250 and match United Way contributions. Additionally, the company’s active involvement with programs and organizations like the United Way Day of Caring, volunteering in the classroom for Junior Achievement, mentoring students through STEM and adopting angels from the Salvation Army Angel Tree provide our employees with additional paid time away from work to lead fundraising, volunteering and mentoring efforts.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Our company is committed to building a strong culture that encourages forward thinking, process-driven results, proactive communication and a collaborative, team environment. Our company invests heavily in technology to assist our employees to effectively and efficiently communicate from different locations as well as minimizing travel away from family. Also supporting this objective, in various spaces throughout our offices, we have created collaborative work areas that inspire teamwork, creativity and innovation. Our employees also have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with the CEO to share their thoughts on the state of the business and how to better our company and are encouraged to share stories and ideas on our internal website and in our Company newsletter.
  • Celebrating Our Successes: At Matrix, we celebrate our successes – big and small. We love telling stories about our employees’ accomplishments on our social media channels, internal website and newsletter, through videos, photos, email and texts. Our leadership team spends hundreds of hours each year visiting jobsites and offices to celebrate safety results and project successes. Matrix also recognizes outstanding safety performance by awarding our highest awards – The Board of Director's and the CEO’s Safety Excellence Awards.
  • Exceptional Benefits: In addition to attractive health and wellness benefits, Matrix has a generous paid time off policy which includes up to six weeks off, 10 paid holidays and an additional paid day to use in support of community service. Matrix also offers flexible work weeks based on individual needs and work situations. Additionally, Matrix has many other benefits to make life better for employees. Examples include our 401k program with company matching contributions and immediate vesting, company-funded health savings accounts, tuition reimbursement, and discounts for insurance, vehicles and cell phone service.
  • Work/Life Balance: At Matrix, we work hard, but we also play hard. In addition to flexible schedules and generous PTO, employees benefit from free tickets to sporting events and concerts, family events and annual holiday parties. Employees’ families are encouraged to participate in company-sponsored local walks to support organizations like the American Heart Association or Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. We also encourage our employees to get away from their desks and build camaraderie by doing a scavenger hunt at the local fair or taking a walk around the park. While in the office, employees often have food days where a department or many departments spend time with each other while enjoying a variety of foods.
  • Our Culture: Our culture and core values define us and drive our success. It’s the reason so many of our field/craft employees travel from project to project to work for us. It’s the reason our employees say they are proud to work for Matrix and take pride in the impact we make in our communities. We often receive comments on our social media channels from employees who say working for Matrix is the best job they ever had. Employees talk about their “Matrix family” and it is this “family” feel that we’re determined to maintain – a place where we care for one another, provide a safe environment and work hard together. And, we extend that family to include employees' little ones by bringing our children to “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” which is one of the most fun days of the year.
