Perks and Programs

We asked Matrix Service Company to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Health and Wellness: At Matrix, we want our employees and their families to live healthier, more rewarding lives. Our health and wellness program offers employees and their families access to free annual health and biometric screenings, to tobacco cessation programs and to an employee assistance hotline. Employees also have access to resources to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle like free onsite and near-site clinics, gym reimbursements, discounted fees for Weight Watchers, and healthy snack delivery. Most recently, the company created a “virtual walk” step challenge to our offices all over the world. The result? Nearly 47,000,000 combined steps with 71% of employees that participated completing the challenge. Following this challenge, multiple offices created ongoing walking groups.
  • Exceptional Benefits: In addition to attractive health and wellness benefits, Matrix has a generous paid time off policy which includes up to six weeks off, 10 paid holidays and an additional paid day to use in support of community services. Matrix also offers flexible work weeks based on individual needs and work situations. Additionally, Matrix has many other benefits to make life better for employees. Examples include our 401k program with company matching contributions and immediate vesting, company funded health savings accounts, tuition reimbursement, and discounts for insurance, vehicles and cell phone service.
  • Career Growth and Development: At Matrix, employees drive our success and represent our most important competitive advantage. Providing development opportunities is one of the best ways to ensure our employees continue to flourish and meet their professional goals. Matrix provides all employees with opportunities for instructor-led training, more than 200 online training modules, self-paced training programs, company-wide lunch and learns, formal leadership programs and a Peer Advisor Program for new employees. The company encourages employees to take 40 hours or more of training annually. In addition, we offer a two-year leadership program for recent college graduates, formal project management training and a robust field supervisor development program. We also offer an internship program to students nearing graduation.
  • Community Involvement: Community involvement is one of our core values. We believe being of service to the communities in which we live and work is both a privilege and an obligation. Our employees are encouraged to volunteer, join boards and give back. We provide 8 hours of paid time off each year per employee for volunteer activities, match individual employee contributions to an organization of their choice up to $250 and match United Way contributions. Additionally, we participate in events across the country and lead fundraising, volunteering and mentoring efforts for organizations like Junior Achievement, United Way, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, STEM, Ronald McDonald House and numerous other national and local groups.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Our company is committed to building a strong culture that encourages forward thinking, process driven results, proactive communication and a collaborative, team environment. Representing this commitment is the inclusion of employees from across the company who came together to create our 5-year strategic plan. Also supporting this objective, in various spaces throughout our offices, we have created collaborative work areas that inspire teamwork, creativity and innovation. Our employees also have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with the CEO to share their thoughts on the state of the business and how to better our company and are encouraged to share stories and ideas on our internal website and in our newsletter.
  • Celebrating Our Successes: At Matrix, we celebrate our successes – big and small. We love telling stories about our employees’ accomplishments on our internal website, our newsletter, through videos, photos and email. Our leadership team spends hundreds of hours every year traveling to jobsites and offices to celebrate safety results and project successes. Matrix also recognizes outstanding safety performance by awarding our highest awards – The Board of Director's and the CEO’s Safety Excellence Awards. Our employees are competitive about driving to a zero incident safety culture as they did recently on a large jobsite where they awarded the team that achieved set safety goals with a Worldwide Wrestling Federation-style belt as a proud reminder of their accomplishments. Competition was fierce and bragging rights were on the line.
  • Safety: In our business, where employees can be exposed to dangerous situations, protecting our people and those around them is paramount. We want everyone going home to their loved ones safely at the end of each day. That’s why safety is our number one core value. Beginning with our CEO, our safety culture is embedded throughout our organization. Employees receive extensive safety training with the goal of zero incidents. Our culture encourages employees to take responsibility to eliminate a safety hazard, including stopping work if needed. Employees identify what they value most as a daily reminder to always work safe – we call it our Big 5. We also invest in programs and technology to analyze, understand and eliminate potential future safety risks.
  • Work/Life Balance: At Matrix, we work hard, but we also play hard. In addition to flexible schedules and generous PTO, employees benefit from free tickets to sporting events and concerts, family events such as a day at the zoo and annual holiday parties. Employees’ families are encouraged to participate in company-sponsored local walks to support organizations like the American Heart Association or Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. And we encourage everyone to have fun! For example, at this year’s heart walk, our CFO dressed up in our CEO’s favorite football team jersey because he lost a bet. We also encourage our employees to plan off-site events where they can take time away from their desks together to build camaraderie and stronger teams.
  • Our Culture: Our culture and core values define us and drive our success. It’s the reason so many of our field/craft employees travel from project to project to work for us. It’s the reason our employees say they are proud to work for Matrix and take pride in the impact we make in our communities. We often receive comments on our social media channels from employees who say working for Matrix is the best job they ever had. Employees talk about their “Matrix family” and it is this “family” feel that we’re determined to maintain – a place where we care for one another, provide a safe environment and work hard together. And, we love bringing our children to “Bring Your Kids to Work Day!”
