  • Stellar Retirement Benefits: Kimley-Horn looks out for the future of our employees. The firm matches 200% on the first 4% of employee 401(k) contributions and makes an additional profit-sharing contribution. Combined, these equaled a company contribution of 18% of salary and bonus in 2017.
  • Bonuses Across the Board: All of our full-time (and most of our part-time) employees participate in our year-end bonus program, which is based on individual and firm performance.
  • Robust Training Programs: Kimley-Horn offers a full slate of in-house employee training from specialized technical training to presentation and people skills to leadership development programs. In addition, we provide tools for self-directed training for employees who are motivated to progress faster.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

An entrepreneurial spirit is what allows us to innovate and adapt in an ever-evolving market. Beyond core competencies in their field and a technical aptitude, successful Kimley-Horn employees share a number of characteristics. We look for people who are proactive, passionate, collaborative, driven to achieve, risk-taking, confident, hard-working, and able to easily connect with people.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We scout college campuses for employees who show signs of achievement and entrepreneurial skill. We’d love to see how you’ve achieved success—what challenge have you overcome through innovation and adaptation? Can you show a tolerance for leaving your comfort zone? Demonstrate how you have owned an opportunity and had the initiative to carry it forward?  We look for similar traits in our senior hires, along with a demonstrated ability to build a strong, successful practice that will support a team.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Civil engineers, landscape architects, planners, and environmental scientists who have around 3-7 years of experience.  We also routinely hire a large number of college graduates in those fields—over 300 in the past year.
