Perks and Programs

We asked Hyland, creator of OnBase to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Corporate Athlete: This two-day, off-site retreat for advanced leadership and VPs emphasizes the connection between personal purpose and daily behaviors. Skillful energy management is taught in a multi-disciplinary approach to help attendees become physically energized, emotionally connected, mentally focused and completely aligned with whatever mission is most important to them. Participants meet with their monthly goal groups following completion of the program.
  • Wellness Center: This year, we partnered with a local hospital, Westshore Primary Care, to run the Hyland Wellness Center. We have an on-site nurse practitioner, chiropractor, physical therapist, dietician and health coach. Employees and their families can utilize this “minute-clinic” service five days a week for things like minor illness/injury, skin conditions, wellness and physical exams. They can also receive vaccinations, health condition monitoring and even certain lab tests. Same-day prescription pick-up is also available. This new partnership brings our employees access to a network of specialists, as well as coordination of care with the support of other medical providers.
  • Onsite CEC: The Hyland Child Enrichment Center is a state-licensed on-site care and learning facility for the children of employees. The CEC offers care and education to children ages six weeks to pre-K, using a Montessori-style curriculum. Each classroom prepares age-appropriate lesson plans that include art, music, literacy and math activities. Parents and kids enjoy visitors, like musicians, animal experts and yoga instructors, at no additional charge.
  • Sabbatical Program: Hyland has established a four-week, paid Sabbatical Program to give eligible full-time domestic employees the opportunity to spend a significant span of time away from work – in addition to paid time off. Hyland encourages employees to focus on connecting with family, friends, hobbies, travel, or whatever other interests they would like to pursue. The goal of the program is to give employees an opportunity to take a complete break from work so they can return recharged and reinvigorated.
  • Innovation Program: Innovation@Hyland is designed to connect, educate and inspire. Employees are encouraged to generate new ideas and share them in a variety of ways, including through the Innovation Portal, an intranet site where employees engage with one another. Here, individuals with ideas connect with the people who have the ability to execute on those ideas, which are posted to the site and voted on by fellow employees. The collaborative nature of the site allows innovation to foster and grow through open dialog, culminating in the best ideas coming to fruition through the driven employees who make them happen.

How to Get Hired

We asked Hyland, creator of OnBase for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Hyland’s core competencies, displayed in a number of places throughout our campus, are: Ethics and Values, Customer Focus, Achieving Results, Analytical Problem Solving, and Flexible and Adaptive.

“At Hyland, these values define our genetic makeup and guide how we operate each and every day,” said Gail Joyce, HR manager.

They are so important that we’ve embedded them into our selection process through behavioral-based interview questions.

“Our atmosphere is engaging and full of passionate people. We look for similar traits while interviewing candidates. By evaluating prospective employees against our competencies, we ensure we’re hiring candidates who will thrive in Hyland’s fast-paced, ever-evolving environment,” added Joyce.

Potential employees must be interested in technology and understand the importance of being customer-focused. When we say in our Core Values that “employees are our family,” we want them to be excited about that idea and bring that mentality with them every day.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Every candidate fills out an online application to tell us why they are a good fit for Hyland. We look for people who are creative, flexible and have a genuine interest in technology, as well as those with a strong focus on customer service.

It’s clear when a prospective employee has done research on Hyland’s products and has taken the time to learn more about OnBase. It’s this kind of initiative that goes far in landing a position here, and in being a successful member of the Hyland team.

Are there any unusual or especially rigorous steps of your hiring process that candidates should be aware of?

In every online application, we require candidates to write a poem about their past work experience. This gives them an opportunity to show their creativity, as well as their attitude about their past and present work situations. And when our training candidates want to show us more of their creative side, they can submit a video, slideshow or short film to show us more of what truly motivates them.

We like to incorporate real-world scenarios into our interview processes. Whether it is a consultant or project manager candidate going through a mock business discovery meeting or a trainer candidate conducting a mock training session, we want to see our candidates in action. During these interviews, our interviewers and managers become customers and students, and the candidate is in control of the room. Remote candidates can make an impression with video or YouTube presentations.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

As a company known for being “the best ECM solution provider with whom to partner,” we continue to look for candidates who will help us take our operations to the next level. Our customers’ success is our success, and we contribute to that success by providing best-in-class service and support through Hyland Global Services – in business analysis, solution deployment planning and implementation, operational support and customer mentorship programs. We are currently focused on hiring for Global Services, specifically for consulting customers on implementing business application solutions using OnBase; technical consulting to help OnBase technical and business users implement, administer and troubleshoot their software solutions; conversion analysis to lead business discoveries and design solutions for customers; and solution development to solve the business problems and integration needs of customers and partners by utilizing various platforms and providing incredible customer service.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

The best way to find out about our current openings is to check out, where candidates can see an up-to-date listing of all available opportunities and submit an online application. Social media is also a good way to get in touch with Hyland’s recruiting team. Connect with Hyland on LinkedIn, follow us on Twitter or Instagram, and “like” us on Facebook. It’s a great way to find out about opportunities and learn more about the company, our events and our culture. It’s also a good idea for candidates to reach out to their professional network. If they have connections to people who work at Hyland, they may be able to get a referral – information that they can then include in their online application.
