Perks and Programs

We asked Hunton & Williams LLP to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Child Care and Adoption Leave: Hunton & Williams provides job-protected, fully paid child care and adoption leave for both primary and non-primary caregivers. Lawyer primary caregivers receive 90 days and staff primary caregivers receive 50 days. Lawyer non-primary caregivers receive 10 days and staff non-primary caregivers receive 3 days. In addition, the firm provides up to $5,000 in adoption fee reimbursement for both lawyers and professional staff. Note: Due to formatting constraints, the Family Care by the Numbers information that follows later in this survey only reflects benefits for professional staff – our largest group of employees.
  • Scholarships for Staff Children: Hunton & Williams awards scholarships to children of professional staff members, up to $5,000 per year for up to four years, to help with expenses in connection with pursuing a full-time undergraduate course of study at a college, university or technical school. Two new scholarships were awarded in 2017 and six were renewed for a total of eight current scholarships.
  • Technology Purchase Program: Hunton & Williams offers lawyers and professional staff an interest-free loan of up to $1,500 for the purchase of personal computers and computer-related equipment, such as printers, scanners, routers, tablets and smartphones.
  • Emergency Back-Up Child and Adult Care: Hunton & Williams provides subsidized emergency back-up child and adult care. All lawyers and professional staff may use up to 20 days per year per dependent.
  • Pro Bono Program: Hunton & Williams lawyers and staff timekeepers are allowed - and encouraged - to count up to 50 hours of pro bono work annually toward their billable hours total. Last year, 90 of our lawyers and staff timekeepers each donated more than 100 hours of pro bono service and were honored with the firm's Randolph Williams Award. One hundred percent of our full-time US lawyers have participated in at least one pro bono project during each of the past eight years and, last year alone, together donated more than 40,000 hours to help those in need.
  • Minority Attorney Retreats: Biennial retreats for Hunton & Williams' minority lawyers have been held at the firm since 1993. In November 2015, more than 60 lawyers attended the most recent retreat in Washington, DC. The two-day event included professional development workshops as well as opportunities for networking and socializing. Plans for the 2017 retreat are now underway.
  • Student Loan Refinancing Program: Hunton & Williams partners with SoFi to offer our lawyers and professional staff, as well as their families and friends, an opportunity to reduce the cost of student loan debt. SoFi, the nation's largest provider of student loan refinancing, offers lower rates than federal and/or private options. In addition, SoFi provides a $500 welcome bonus to all who refinance through Hunton & Williams at
  • YouDecide Discount Purchasing Program: Hunton & Williams contracts with an outside vendor, YouDecide, to make its advantages discount purchasing program available to our lawyers and professional staff. The program provides discounts for a variety of goods and services including auto and home insurance, pet insurance, critical illness and accident insurance, restaurant meals and much more. For convenience, some purchases may be made through payroll deduction.
  • Virgin Pulse Wellness Program: Hunton & Williams offers access to Virgin Pulse, a year-round wellness program that uses fitness trackers, team-based quarterly challenges, and a website and smart phone app to promote better health habits. Fitness tracking devices are provided at no charge to all participants, and quarterly drawings are held for prizes such as iPads and health-related items.
  • Staff Appreciation Week: Each April, Hunton & Williams hosts a week of special activities in appreciation of the firm's professional staff members and the important contribution they make to the firm's success. Games, contests, music, giveaways are all part of the fun. Food is also central to the week's success, with professional staff being treated to continental breakfasts, lunches and afternoon socials. A highlight of the week is a special thank-you address from Managing Partner Wally Martinez via videoconference.
