  • Dress for your day: We're all adults here - you know who you are meeting with and what your day may look like, so we trust you to dress for your day. Our handbook doesn't have big long "dress-code" policy. Honoring personal accountability is how we do it!
  • Work where you want: HR Collaborative encourages people to work remotely we they need to. We have a clear policy in our handbook that outlines expectations of professional performance. All of our business tools (phone, databases, CRM, and files) are cloud-based and available anywhere with wireless access. Every employee is able to work remote at least one day per week.
  • Company-Wide Profit Sharing Bonus: We believe that all employees contribute to the success of our company and that's why all employees participate in our Quarterly Profit Sharing Program. Whether you are a flexible employee working 8 hours a week, or a full time staff member, we all offer up our skills and talents for the benefit of our clients and so we should all be rewarded!
  • Quarterly Fun Events: Every quarter we have a company outing. A staff favorite is our Art Prize Day! We blow off the afternoon and walk together down to heart of the Grand Rapids for the annual Art Prize competition. We walk around and look at art, finish with drinks and appetizers. Other fun events include New Year's Party with live trivia, Outdoor concerts, summer picnics, volunteer events to name a few.
  • Birthday HR Collaborative Gear Credit: HR Collaborative offers several different logo’d clothing options for employees to purchase. Each employee receives a $30 gift card to purchase these items as a birthday gift.
  • Project Professional Designation: HR Collaborative engages several professionals for part-time or project work. These employees work part time or project-based hours, providing client services. Many of the employees who take advantage of this designation want to stay engaged in their profession, but don't want to work full time because of family commitments or because they are close to retirement. These professionals are welcome in the office at any time, and attend all company meetings, training and events.
  • Healthy Snacks Provided: The kitchen at HR Collaborative is stocked with (mostly) healthy snacks that are available to all employees. We encourage people to eat lunch together in our kitchen. During the summer, we keep the freezer stocked with popsicles and other frozen treats. The local deli serves smoothie drinks. Occasionally, our owner will buy smoothies for everyone in the office. Usually, this coincides with the Friday before a long weekend, or a busy week. It's a small but welcomed reward for a long week.
  • Phone Stipends for All: If you work here as a regular part time, full time, or even a flexible employee - HR Collaborative provides a $50/month cell phone stipend.
  • Culture Committee: Our culture committee focuses on opportunities to bring people together through learning opportunities and fun experiences. They organize the wedding and baby showers, and make sure everyone can participate in the March Madness event. Other items on the docket are increased volunteer opportunities, wellness programs, and Ted Talk reviews (instead of book reviews).
  • Employee Assistance Program: A completely free and confidential service available to every single employee and their immediate family. Whether one of our employees needs parenting advice, emotional support, elder care guidance or help with any other personal matter, the EAP is there to serve. Free and Confidential for all!

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

1.  Commitment to strategic human resource practices. 2.  Alignment with our values - committed to knowing our clients personally, and becoming a trusted member of their team.  Having honest and forthright conversations with each other - even if they're uncomfortable.  Collaborating - leveraging our collective resources for the good of the client.  Continuous learning - from the pros and from each other.  Comfortable with diversity of practice, but consistent standards of excellence.    3.  Demonstrated willingness to pitch in for the good of the whole.  A team player. 4.  Technologically savvy and curious.    

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Demonstrate forward thinking in the field of human resource management.  Share a study, pose a provocative (and well researched) question, invite us to participate in a webinar or conference.  When someone can clearly articulate the way that HR management can help a company make money, or save money, or stay out of jail, we take notice.  Be active in the communities we work in. Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Our biggest need is for People Strategists who can articulate the strategic value of talent management to companies who previously haven't focused on this aspect of their business. There is so much opportunity for us to help businesses grow by solving their people problems and organizing people for strength, stability and performance. The person who can tell stories of success (with data and real life examples) is always welcome on our team.
