Perks and Programs

We asked Healthline to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Joyful, Healthful Living: At Healthline, our mission is to create a stronger, healthier world and this starts with our people - in fact, "joyful, healthful living" is one of our core values. We support our employees’ health and well-being in a multitude of ways. Every employee receives an annual $1200 to spend on health and well-being, starting on their 1-year anniversary. Additionally, employees can opt into onsite yoga and group fitness classes, work out or take Peloton spin classes in our fitness room, join a subsidized bike share with Ford GoBike SF or CitiBike NYC, join our kickball and basketball teams, participate with the lunchtime run club or use our app-stocked mindfulness room for a break during the work day.
  • Healthline Cares: Care about giving back to the community? We do too! Healthline participates as a team in several fundraising walks (including WalkMS, AIDS Walk and Parkinson’s Walk) throughout the year. We support patients around the world in need of healthcare through our partnership with Watsi (check out our impact page at www.watsi.org/company/healthline) which is linked to our peer recognition program (we donate $5 to Watsi for every "thanks" given to a coworker). We hold quarterly volunteering events with new hires and volunteer with various organizations during our summer party. We also volunteer and fundraise for important causes throughout the year, such as our karaoke event in summer 2017 that raised $15,000 to help Sonoma fire recovery efforts.
  • Get Involved: Many of our events are led by employees who are part of our CPR (culture-people-recognition) volunteer committees. CPR committees are also supported by Healthline’s full-time People & Culture team. Anyone is welcome to get involved! Our Happy Hour committee organizes weekly themed happy hours – we also have committees for giving back (Healthline Cares), living healthy (Wellness), employee resource groups (Women of Healthline, People of Color), fun (Celebration), and office safety. And yes – we also have a ping pong table.
  • Parental Leave: We're proud to support our new parents! For each week you take off as a new parent, we'll supplement any state-funded leave to 100% of your salary for up to 12 weeks. We financially support a full 12 weeks of fully-paid maternity leave (for a parent who gives birth) and 6 weeks fully-paid leave for a parent who does not give birth (including adoptive parents).
  • Renew and Re-Energize: In addition to PTO days and holidays, we shut down for the December holidays, encouraging all Healthliners to relax and renew before the new year begins. We often shut down early before long holiday weekends, to encourage employees to get a head start on the holiday.
  • Free Eats and Drinks: “Health” is in our name, and we back it up with a kitchen stocked with healthy foods and beverages. You can even enjoy a catered lunch on the company dime up to twice a week.
  • Bring Your Pet: And by “pet,” we do mean “well-behaved dog.” (It’s best to leave your cats and reptiles at home.) Hounds make us happy, so we've made our office a pooch-friendly place.
  • Work Remotely: Reduce your commute time by working from home (or a café, or laundromat, or auto mechanic’s shop — wherever you concentrate best) one day each week. We want all our employees to feel they can be at their best, and there are times when working from home fits that bill. Our offices are set up with Zoom Room technology, allowing for easy team collaboration between locations.
  • Great Benefits and Rewards: We offer excellent health, vision and dental benefits to take care of our employees and their dependents, as well as disability benefits, life insurance, an EAP and several employee discounts. Employees have access to personalized financial advice through our 401K partnership, and we offer 401K matched contributions of 50%, up to the first 4% of your salary. We also have a generous employee new hire referral program (earning you money for every successful new hire, after 90 days). All employees (with the exception of those on a management bonus program) are eligible for our annual profit sharing bonus, which is targeted at $1000/year.
  • Learn and Grow: We support employees’ growth and frequently promote from within. Our “Healthline Human Framework” articulates the culture, mindset, behaviors and skills that help us succeed as a team, and we’ve built out our people programs around these definitions. It is our aspiration to support all our employees in being their best selves at work as well as at home, and we support growth through internal programs and workshops, manager and leadership development programs, annual year start meetings, sales team conferences and more. We have brought in guest speakers to cover topics such as resilience (WisdomLabs), moral courage (Irshad Manji), “working like a genius” (Will Marre) and leadership that makes everyone smarter (Shawn Vanderhoven) among others. We also believe in lunch and learns, and offer many topics with speakers both internal and external.

How to Get Hired

We asked Healthline for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

If you’re looking for a collaborative environment where you can make a difference, and have a genuine interest in both health and media, you’ll fit right in. We're looking for people who exemplify the characteristics of our Healthline Human Framework, which outlines the culture, behaviors, mindset, and skills we know drives our growth and success. We seek people with a "LEADER" mindset (learner, excellence, accountability, discipline, effort, respect) who can contribute and shine in a unique, often technical, role and also bring a point of view that we may not have yet. We want new team members who can help us grow, help us innovate and add to our culture (not just "fit" in it.) We're committed to being our users' most trusted ally in their pursuit of health and well-being, whether we're editing content, writing code, conducting market analysis, presenting to a client or designing new products. Join us!

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

A great candidate will make sure to research Healthline: who we are, what we do and the industry we operate in. Candidates can visit our websites (Healthline and Medical News Today), and our social media pages to learn more about Healthline, our business, our growth and our culture. A great way to stand out is to connect with our recruiters on LinkedIn, provide specific and targeted cover letters, and reach out with any questions about positions. It is also beneficial for candidates to connect the dots to our mission and values, and to share how their skills, experiences and interests are aligned. Lastly, we encourage you to stay up-to-date on our positions by visiting our careers page on our website.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

While we are consistently looking for great talent across all functions of the company, we are particularly looking to expand our teams in Engineering, Content, Site Marketing, and Finance. To stay up-to-date on the current positions we have open, be sure to check out our careers page (https://www.healthline.com/careers) and find a role that best fits your skills.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Candidates should first check out our careers page to apply and stay updated with all of our current openings.  In addition to applying, candidates can research our website as well as our competitors to learn more about the industry we work in. A good way to stay connected is by following our social media pages and making connections with our current employees.  Those interested in Healthline should not be afraid to introduce themselves to our People Discovery team or Leadership before applying. Lastly, all candidates should become familiar with our product to showcase their knowledge of Healthline.
