Perks and Programs

We asked Globoforce to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • We say thank you: Our recognition program is used by everyone in the company. We typically spend 5% of payroll on our recognition program, but have been known to rise to 8% during extraordinary times! We recognize work that exemplifies our values – respect (for all, teamwork, customers, urgency, and quality), imagination, determination, and innovation. Whether it’s peer to peer, employee to their manager or employee to an executive (awards go up, down, sideways, there’s no hierarchy), everyone can say 'thank you' and give a monetary award to recognize work that exemplifies our values. Our Globostars recognition program allows each individual the choice of how to use their awards – whether on products or gift cards – and there are thousands of options to choose from.
  • Respect for All: Earlier this year we introduced Respect for All as a new value. Being inclusive of all is a mindset we’ve embraced since our early days. Through our long-standing global business practices, we are already very mindful of being an inclusive-focused company and culture, and in reading through all the fantastic recognition moments on Globostars, our social recognition platform, we regularly see examples of our inclusive culture. We define our new value as follows, Respect for All means we understand and champion the needs and ideals that all employees bring to Globoforce. We appreciate that our success as a company comes from being a culture that is inclusive of diverse backgrounds, experiences, personalities, and viewpoints.
  • WorkHuman is Globoforce: The WorkHuman movement was pioneered by Globoforce and we live it every day. The messages shared are integral to how we work internally, as well as how our employees bring this passion to our customers. From the workplace we provide to the culture we create together, our employees are empowered to do their life’s best work. We introduced a cultural energizer award, nominating an individual who naturally reinforces our culture in the way they work and treat their colleagues. Our office design inspires co-creation and transparency, while our ongoing conversations between leadership and our employees encourages knowledge and idea sharing. And, this year we made WorkHuman part of our company logo, visualizing the importance of this inclusive way of working.
  • Globoforce Gives: Through our Globoforce Gives program, every employee has a paid volunteer day each year to spend time working on something they are passionate about. Employees can choose an individual activity or one of the many company-organized activities. We feel so strongly about giving back that it’s an integral part of our company kickoff event – we spend the first day giving back, as a team. In 2017 to leave a positive impact on Phoenix, the location for WorkHuman 2017, attendees chose from three local organizations to donate to: The Be ONE Project (addressing middle school bullying), Girls Rule Foundation (empowering young girls), and Diversity Leadership Alliance (cultivating inclusive communities). We’re proud to do our part in helping every human reach their full potential.
  • Spark a Conversation: As a follow-up to our announcement that we will no longer conduct traditional performance reviews, we introduced our “Spark a Conversation” model. Managers and employees now reference the same resource – a wheel representing various types of coaching conversations that are most likely to occur and sample conversation starters, which can take place any day of the year! The five areas are Working Human, Values of a Globostar, Spark a Conversation, AIM for the Stars, and My GloboJourney. The Spark a Conversation model enables all employees to have better, more meaningful, continuous conversations, facilitating an employee’s learning, development and performance growth. And, this has led to our latest product innovation – Conversations – more to come on that next year.
  • Always Learning: This year we launched GloboUniversity, our online social learning academy for employees. GloboUniversity provides learning opportunities for each of our employees to grow and develop in their career. It empowers learners through self-paced, personalized resources available on demand, online and through mobile devices. There is a variety of content available, from courses about our culture to Ted Talks, and product and department-specific content. Globoforce also supports employees’ attendance at conferences and workshops where they can network with peers and stay up to date on the latest trends, learning from like-minded professionals from around the globe. And, we offer discounted tuition through New England College of Business and annual tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250 for courses that further their career with us.
  • Everyone creates the future: Our GloboInnovation and Hackathon programs empower employees to solve challenges and share ideas on ways we can improve our customer’s experience, create efficiencies, and grow our business. Winners receive a significant cash prize and a week long, once-in-a-lifetime trip (Boston employees go to Dublin, and vice-versa). They get immersed in the other office’s culture and participate in the other office’s yearly kick-off meeting, summer celebration event, or attend our WorkHuman conference. Getting to know our Irish colleagues on a more human level is priceless! Innovation is one of our values and therefore isn’t limited to these events. We fuel this mindset throughout the year by recognizing employees who continuously innovate and do things differently to improve our way of working.
  • Moving within Globoforce: This year 14% of our employees changed roles. One employee who made a transfer this year is Andy K. He worked in our operations team, and expressed an interest in sales. In his recent service timeline, his sales manager wrote: “I remember when you first came knocking about one day moving to the Inside Sales Team. We had a great discussion about what it would take. From there, no matter the ask, you took the challenge head on. When you would end your regular day, you would come over to the Inside Sales Team and take part in anything and everything, eager to learn and get better.” Andy’s transition has been a success and he now has a new career in sales.
  • Our human work place: Our new, state-of-the-art headquarters in Framingham is designed to represent Globoforce’s mission to inspire greater humanity, productivity, and teamwork in the workplace. The way people work today is built around social connections and organizational communities, and our office was designed to promote cross-functional collaboration and inclusion. The human-centric office features digital walls, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, stairwells with inspirational messages, phone booths for personal phone calls, collaboration spaces, relaxation areas, and a game area. A wellness room offers yoga, meditation and amenities for new mothers, while the Globocafe provides employees with healthy snacks, a coffee bar, and a grassy area with Adirondack chairs. Come visit our home away from home!
  • Living #globofamily: We refer to our employees as our Globofamily and don’t say this lightly. One of the best things about working at Globoforce is the support received from your colleagues. We have a knack for hiring people that add to our family, which means bringing in kind, collaborative humans who will add to our culture with their own ideas. This diverse and inclusive culture is imperative to our success. Our family celebrates birthdays, weddings, babies, and is supportive during difficult times. In our new office, we created a GloboFamily wall – a prominent feature in our lobby – showcasing our GloboHumans with their family members (both two and four-legged). It’s a daily reminder of all that represents our happy humans.

How to Get Hired

We asked Globoforce for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Each prospective employee goes through a vigorous interview process. You will meet with many individuals who not only evaluate your professional skill level, but your cultural fit potential. Our culture is a top priority and we maintain it by hiring people who work well within our culture. We’re looking for remarkable people who are driven, positive, collaborative, genuine, inquisitive, and adaptable. You must also have respect for people, quality, teamwork, risk taking, urgency, customers and change. You should also have a flair of creativity about you – where a bit of imagination and determination can lead to great innovation! If you’re passionate about making the world of work more human and are ready to do your life’s best work by helping companies engage employees through the power of thanks and recognition, apply to join our team.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We look at every application. Amazing talent comes in all different forms and we respect your uniqueness. To get our attention, spend time creating a visually appealing, creative resume and maybe do something out of the norm to get it to us. Do your research (there is a lot of information out there – blogs, white papers, news articles, social media, etc.) and tell us how you’d hit the ground running to help us improve the lives of more employees out there by making the world of work more human. Show us you’re curious about the psychology behind what makes people tick – and if you have experience in this, even better – tell us what you know. Have you read our books? You should. Tell us what you learned. Are you excited about the business we’re in? Tell us why you want to work with us - we’ll listen.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

In the year ahead, our focus will continue to be on hiring exceptional people who are driven to add to our culture and business in amazing ways. As our business grows, so are many of our teams. Our sales team is growing and we’re looking for high-energy, ambitious, and strategic sales people with HR technology field knowledge. We are hiring customer success team members who are committed to working with customers to ensure they get the maximum value from our solution. Our marketing team is looking for ground-breaking marketers who have experience disrupting a market and paving a new way for the HR industry. The product will always evolve, and with that we look for talented product management candidates, with a passion for technology innovation, customer service, and recognition in the workplace. Other roles will be developed as needed, so check our careers site frequently - http://www.globoforce.com/careers/.
