  • Mentor Program: Farnsworth Group provides a mentorship program where potential leaders in the Company are identified and partnered with a senior staff member. This one-on-one partnership lasts for one year, and allows the mentee to have an internal advocate for their career growth and expose the individual to areas outside the mentees area of responsibility. The goal is for these annual mentor programs to evolve into long-term relationships - both professional and personal.
  • Service Awards: Farnsworth Group recognizes employees for their dedication to the Company, presenting service awards for one year, five, ten, 15, 20, 25, etc. years of service to the Company. Employees who hit these milestone anniversaries are recognized individually during anniversary service award celebrations in the Company's local office employee meetings.
  • Wellness and Fitness: Farnsworth Group provides a robust wellness and fitness program that is available to all employees. The Company offers an annual $100 reimbursement that can be used toward fitness equipment or a health club membership. At the local office level, most locations have 'wellness committees' that promote wellness in the workplace, and plan and coordinate wellness activities for staff to participate. Events include Bike to Work, 5K runs, office walking challenges, team participation in marathons, and 5K runs/walks that benefit charities and organizations.
  • Employee Recognition Coupon Program: Farnsworth Group's employee coupon program recognizes staff who go above and beyond their direct area of responsibility. Employees can recognize other employees with a coupon for: 1. Process Improvement; 2. Job Well Done; 3. Service to the Client; and 4. Safety. Coupons can be redeemed for prizes that range from Company apparel to gift cards at restaurants, stores and online shopping. Employees are encouraged to recognize and present employees with coupons during the Company's monthly staff meetings which are held in each office.
  • Community Support/Charity: Farnsworth Group employees take pride in giving back to their local communities and support philanthropic organizations. Whether it's serving on a community board, or volunteering for United Way, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, Childrens Hospitals, and many others, Farnsworth Group employees embrace the opportunity to help our communities become better places to live, visit and raise families. Employees hold a number of fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to support these organizations, and the Company encourages employees to be active and assume leadership roles in the communities they serve.
  • Green Challenge: Farnsworth Group participates in the Green Business Challenge Program that assists small and medium sized enterprises with the first steps toward sustainable business practices. The Challenge supports integration of sustainability measures into the kinds of everyday operational practices common to every business. Participants identify and adapt the strategies that improve financial performance and engage employees in voluntary measures to reduce environmental impacts. Farnsworth Group's St. Louis "Green Team" received an Award of Achievement award from the 2015 St. Louis Green Business Challenge sponsored by the St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce.
  • All Employee Meetings: All Farnsworth Group offices hold monthly staff meetings where employees are invited to learn about the events occurring in the Company. Each meeting provides a current overview of the Company's financial results allowing all employees to know the status of the Company's financial standing and progress. This financial transparency allows all employees to understand the role they play in the Company's success. The meetings also provide updates on Company safety metrics, company strategy, project presentations, outside guest speakers from local social agencies, office events and activities and employee recognition. It's an opportunity for employees to gather in a relaxed atmosphere, build internal relationships and connect and celebrate the overall direction of the Company.
  • FGInstitute: Farnsworth Group recently launched FGInstitute, a corporate institute that provides training to Farnsworth Group employees covering a number of topics. 'Effective Project Management' is the first training program being rolled out under the FGInstitute umbrella, which will be provided to all Farnsworth Group Project Managers. Additional training programs will include marketing and business development, safety, and leadership, just to name a few. 
  • Onboarding Program: Farnsworth Group has a companywide onboarding program to welcome and integrate new employees into the Company. All new employees go through a thorough introduction to Farnsworth Group, and are provided training on the various tools, systems and processes available to them. New employees are also partnered with a co-worker that they can rely on as a resource for any questions they may have, and also to build a relationship with an individual outside of their home department. 
  • Minorities/Women/STEM: Farnsworth Group is a strong advocate of attracting minorities and females to the engineering and architecture profession. We routinely provide job shadowing opportunities for local schools to showcase the numerous career opportunities available in the A/E field. We reach out to local schools, clubs and universities to offer speaking engagements or on-site visits to promote the field of engineering and architecture. Some of the specific activities include: hosting a STEM career day, visits from Women in Architecture, Girl Scouts of Illinois STEM event; Engineering Day at local museums; 'Tween Summit in St. Louis Public School District; Bradley University Girls STEM event,etc.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Farnsworth Group is always looking for prospective employees that can distinguish themselves from other candidates.  In addition to candidates that have the necessary skill sets required for any given position, we evaluate employees for additional distinguishing characteristics such as participation in their local communities, active in professional organizations or involved in charitable and philanthropic organizations. During the interview process, we value candidates who are good communicators, and can demonstrate an ability to engage clients and market Farnsworth Group.   

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

In the next year, Farnsworth will focus on positions identified in the Strategic Plan as well as continuing our emphasis on executing our Succession Plan. The focus will be on engineering at all levels and disciplines including Civil, Electrical and Mechanical.  In particular, we will look to bring in new graduates to grow and develop.  Additionally, we will focus on positions within our Architecture discipline to meet the demands of new projects. Continuing to build infrastructure to support the technical disciplines will also be a priority over the next year.
