Perks and Programs

We asked Etsy to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Locally Sourced-Lunch: Local chefs craft delicious gourmet lunches weekly for the offices. Office pantries are also stocked with coffee, drinks, healthy snacks and treats.
  • Generous Benefits: Etsy covers 100% of medical and dental premiums for employees and their eligible dependents. All employees worldwide receive 26 weeks of paid parental leave, regardless of gender, country of residence, or family circumstance. Etsy also provides a stipend for assistance with the costs of adoption or surrogacy. Offices have well-appointed parents rooms for nursing. Etsy also provides all employees worldwide with an additional 40 hours of paid time off (annually) to volunteer with organizations and causes they are passionate about.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Employees have the option of working remotely as needed or from any of our open and collaborative work spaces. Employees who prefer not to be tethered to a desk can work from anywhere in our wi-fi compatible building, including our large rooftop garden or terraces. Comfortable and stylish furniture made by Etsy sellers is located throughout the offices, offering numerous options for employees to work where they are most comfortable. Phone rooms are located throughout the offices to provide added privacy for calls. Every employee receives an ergonomic chair for their workspace, a brand-new Mac laptop and just about anything else within reason that they need to get their work done.
  • Wellness: Employees can participate in regular wellness programing, including pilates, yoga, and meditation classes, or grab some quiet rest time in our headquarters "breathing room". We offer large outdoors spaces, equipped with Wi-Fi where employees can enjoy fresh air and conduct their work in the warm weather. A fully equipped bike room offers storage for employees who prefer to bike to work, as well as regular bike tune-ups and shower facilities.
  • Innovation and Creativity: Etsy was founded on the principles of craft and innovation, so it’s fitting that we encourage employees to come up with new ways of doing things. Etsy Labs are community spaces in our office where employees are welcome to craft whenever they wish. Labs are stocked with a wide variety of supplies, tools and machines. The wet labs have a letterpress, screen printer and darkroom, and the dry labs have everything from sewing machines, fabric and yarn to a full 3-D printing station. The Labs are a way for employees across disciplines to step away from their computers and come together to use their hands and minds in a different way - one that keeps us in touch with Etsy's handmade roots!
  • Learning and Development: Etsy believes that investing in employees’ development is essential for engagement, and goes beyond standard training programs. So, in addition to helping employees develop critical job and management skills, we offer all our employees opportunities to learn from one another in new ways. Edsy is a weekly program where employees can practice their public speaking skills and share and learn about the work we do across Etsy. Employees are encouraged and supported in creating and leading "Etsy School" classes for colleagues. Some classes have included coding for non-engineers, mobile development, time management, as well as knitting, juggling, baking and dance.
  • Social Responsibility and Sustainability: Etsy is committed to sustainability and social responsibility across everything we do -- from our operations to our relationships with sellers and communities. It’s one of the many reasons we became a certified B Corp - to foster community, shared success, commitment to sustainable operations, and using the power of business for a higher purpose. For employees this means a bike room complete with tune up station, and showers to encourage carbon neutral commuting. We also host rooftop solar panels which help to power our headquarters and contribute to the company’s goal to be powered by 100% renewable electricity. Homeowners are also given access to significant discounts to switch to solar through a new program called Etsy Solar, a benefit which extends to Etsy’s sellers as well.
  • Culture of Openness and Transparency: Etsy is committed to openness and transparency. The leadership team hold monthly "Y'all Hands" meetings, which always open up with some form of live entertainment or activity and are followed by the latest strategic and business news to keep employees informed of what's happening across the company. Etsy's CEO also holds weekly Office Hours, which are chat sessions where employees can ask questions about anything on their minds - from business strategy to what he ate for breakfast.

Etsy loves dogs so many of our employees bring their dogs to the office.

Eatsy is our bi-weekly food program where local small business owners and caterers craft handmade meals for our employees. This program spans across all of our offices world-wide.

How to Get Hired

We asked Etsy for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
