Perks and Programs

We asked Etsy to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Etsy covers 100% of employee healthcare contributions: Etsy covers 100% of employee premiums for standard medical and dental plans, including eligible dependents.
  • Etsy provides 40 hours of paid volunteer time: Etsy provides employees around the world with an additional 40 hours of paid time off to volunteer with an organization they’re passionate about.
  • Etsy keeps it weird (and fun): Etsy hosts an annual Hack Week where employees take time away from regular work to work on any special project they choose. Weird things are known to happen including spontaneous dance parties, pranks, and surprise guests.
  • Etsy encourages well-rested employees: Etsy’s headquarters sports a “breathing room,” a dim, quiet space with plush clouds hanging from the ceiling where employees are encouraged to seek out peace and quiet or grab a blanket and giant bean bag for a refreshing afternoon nap.
  • Etsy loves dogs: Etsy offices are dog-friendly and many employees bring dogs to the office and into meetings every day. Dogs sport their own page in the employee directory with photos and fun facts like favorite treats.

How to Get Hired

We asked Etsy for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Some key characteristics we look for include: Self-aware, authentic, hardcore, adaptable, kind, creative, communicative, diligent, scrappy, passionate, generous, brave, self managing, humble, different.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

The most effective way for a candidate to stand out is to have a well-written resume submitted alongside a compelling cover letter. The resume only tells one side of the story. We want to hear about you, and your interests, in your own words.

Are there any unusual or especially rigorous steps of your hiring process that candidates should be aware of?

There is nothing unusual about our hiring process. We designed the process to be extremely efficient with an emphasis on speed and excellent candidate experience. The process varies across different teams but candidates can expect 1 to 2 phone interview and an onsite interview that will take about 4-5 hours.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We’re hiring across the entire company this year. We’re also making a conscious and proactive effort to recruit diverse talent within Product and Engineering. In order to build a product that will be used by people across the globe,  we need to offer a seat at the table to people from all walks of life. To this end we have committed to implementing forward-thinking diversity recruiting initiatives.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates should visit our Career page, our About page, read our Progress Report, research us online and read our blogs. We’re looking for folks who understand our mission and values. We encourage all applicants to send us a cover letter, along with their resume, that states why they want to join Etsy and that they understand what we are trying to accomplish. Offering us a look into their portfolio of work, accolades, side-projects, hobbies and interests also goes a long way.
