We asked Elevate to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • You Make a Difference: Our leaders strive to ensure employees feel encouraged and appreciated so we customize recognition and awards based on their specific input. Whether it be flowers, lunch, public acknowledgement or gift cards, we strive to celebrate their hard work in a way that they prefer. We also thank our employees and their families through company-wide events held at venues like The Ranch of Lonesome Dove, Fort Worth Zoo, Rangers Baseball Stadium, and the local drive-in theater. Lastly, we show our appreciation to employees through random giveaways throughout the year. One popular contest includes emailing all employees sports trivia questions and winners receive local hockey, baseball or football tickets, depending on the sports season.
  • Reach for the Stars: Starting at orientation, we encourage our employees to reach for the stars through continuous learning and growth. We discuss how employees can work with their managers to create a Development Plan and utilize resources like our REACH site, which allows employees to access eLearning courses, books, videos, and certifications. In 2016, 93% of employees accessed at least one eLearning resource and of those, 71% returned and accessed a variety of resources multiple times. We are also helping our employees reach for the stars by providing them with $5,250 tuition reimbursement annually to pursue their initial degree or an additional one. Lastly, we are investing in our employees and the company’s future by providing extensive Agile training and ongoing coaching to transform our company.
  • Everyone has a Voice: We want questions, ideas, and obstacles to be discussed so we can continuously “Raise the Bar”, one of our core values. We actively encourage employees to schedule meetings with any leader all the way up to the CEO. We have a monthly “Cookies with Ken” discussion where 10-12 randomly selected employees sit down with Ken, our CEO, and discuss what they love about Elevate and what they would like to change. We also have monthly Executive Roundtables, a Q&A session at each Town Hall, weekly employee and manager one on one meetings, as well as skip level discussions. We also seek employees’ feedback through – bi-annual pulse surveys, 30-day new hire check-ins, share your ideas link on our intranet, and more.
  • In the Know: Our leadership strongly believes in keeping employees “in the know” by making sure they understand not only company news and developments, but also our financials and critical business initiatives. We do this through quarterly Town Halls, CEO emails, and our intranet site. At our Town Hall meetings, executives discuss key business goals from the previous quarter including wins, misses, and lessons learned. After our company went public, the CEO and members of the executive team scheduled meetings with every department to ensure all employees were informed regarding our strategy as a public company and were given the opportunity to ask questions. Our CEO, Ken also regularly sends candid, company-wide e-mails with updates from our industry, competitors, regulators/government, as well as business opportunities.
  • Winning Together: At Elevate, one of our core values is “Win Together” - we believe our goals are too big to achieve as individuals. Collaboration isn’t a byproduct of our work, it is our primary focus. Thus, on the day our company went public, we announced every employee would receive a “Win Together Stock Award,” based on their tenure with the company. We could not have gone public without everyone’s ideas, effort, and commitment through the years. We are also in the process of developing an Employee Stock Purchase Program with a 15% discount so as the company prospers each employee can prosper as well. We also celebrated this momentous occasion with parties at each of our locations with food, a photo booth and prizes.
  • Everyone Deserves a Lift: A common phrase we use at Elevate is, “Everyone Deserves a Lift”. It is our mission to end the cycle of debt and help our customers build a brighter financial future We provide customers with access to competitively priced credit when they need it the most, and offer services such as free credit monitoring, rates that can go down over time, and additional educational financial wellness tools. When a customer experiences a hardship, we do not participate in harsh collections practices and do not charge fees or penalties. In 2017, more than 55,000 customers had seen their credit scores improve appreciably and 20,000 are now eligible for rates half their original rate.
  • Random Acts of Kindness: Our customers cannot afford another financial burden so we regularly step forward in times of crisis, whether it be natural disasters or the loss of a job. In April, we forgave loans for customers who were affected by the Canton, Texas tornados. Each quarter, our best customer service representatives choose a customer going through a crisis and forgive their loan on the spot. This allows employees to connect with our customers and provide relief when they are the most vulnerable. We also participated in National Random Acts of Kindness Week in February, and forgave five Rise customer loans totaling $10,000. We received many Facebook comments including, “We need more financial institutions like Rise to help change the world.”
  • The Elevate "It" Factor: Cultural fit is a key part of our hiring process. We utilize behavioral interview questions that align with our core values and start assessing the fit even in the phone interview. We look for potential employees who are mission and vision driven, are risk takers, creative, embrace change and adapt to new opportunities. In an ever-changing environment, it is key to hire individuals who can easily adapt and develop innovative ways to shape our future. We value employees who are inventive, have a strong sense of ownership and are team players. One of our core values is “Win Together” so it is important we hire individuals who work well in a collaborative culture.
  • Riding Together: Our CEO Ken Rees has a passion for cycling and to spread this enthusiasm, we offer a $500 voucher for every employee to purchase a bike so they can stay active and pursue their fitness goals. Employees often say this is their favorite perk of working at Elevate. We also are the presenting sponsor for a local charity bike ride - for the second year in a row – that benefits the local food bank. Employees can participate in the two – day ride that aims to eradicate hunger in our area. It is a great event that employees look forward to participating in with their coworkers and family members as a way they can utilize their bike and ride for a great cause.
  • Elevate Our Community: Elevate supports local, nonprofit community organizations by providing financial contributions and volunteer support. A few of our initiatives to elevate our community include quarterly employee nominated charities who are given $500 each, company-sponsored volunteers hours – 16 hours per employee to volunteer with organizations that they feel passionate about, and our Junior Achievement partnership. Elevate is sponsoring a JA Finance Park event at all of our office locations (Fort Worth, Addison and San Diego) this year where employees volunteer their time and educate students on financial literacy. A recent Elevate volunteer for JA noted "The most rewarding aspect of teaching Junior Achievement lessons is when you can see a kid realize they have an opportunity for prosperity."

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We find that certain people have the “Elevate” factor – risk takers, innovators, and high achievers.  We have found that the best employees have a combination of: wicked intelligence, directness when faced with a challenge, passion for change, curious outlook, exceptional work ethic and a collaborative spirit. 

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

At Elevate, we constantly raise the bar as we deliver better products and lower rates for our customers, which means we are always challenging ourselves. Prospective employees who want to get our attention, need to share with us how they have driven their career to make an impact through their ideas, quality execution, and continuous improvement.
