We asked Elevate to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Work/Life Balance for Families: Family-friendly programs are essential to cultivating an atmosphere where employees can thrive professionally while balancing family obligations. To provide a best in class paid leave program, Elevate researched over 1,500 programs to learn best practices and launched an improved plan that now ranks in the top 12%. The program supports the birth of a child or placement of a child in connection with adoption or foster care. Primary caregivers receive 12 weeks of continuous paid leave and - - we believe unique to Elevate - - 2 additional weeks of intermittent paid leave within the first 12 months of the child’s birth. We understand the joys and challenges that come with having a child and feel it is important to offer additional support beyond the initial paid leave time for parents to use for doctor appointments, sick days, etc. Eligible non-primary caregivers receive 4 weeks of continuous paid leave.
  • Development Days: Elevate puts the power of development in the hands of employees so they can reach their highest potential. We encourage employees to pursue additional learning and career opportunities from day one. Starting in orientation, we discuss how to create a Development Plan and access available resources (eLearning, certifications, workshops and mentors). We also offer Development Days, an open house event, where employees can learn about: Leadership Development, eLearning, Tuition Assistance, Development Plans, Elevate’s Toastmasters Club, Promotions, and Internal Moves. Also, as part of these events, we offer workshops on writing Development Plans and understanding your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator; signups for one-on-one developmental feedback (80 employees, or 20%, signed up); and developmental prizes of books, assessments, and lunches with our executives to discuss employees’ careers. One employee noted “It was great exposure to all of the different development resources to help me grow.”
  • Healthy Habits: Part of what makes Elevate unique is our passion for health and fitness. Our CEO is an avid cyclist, can be regularly seen riding his bike to work and encourages employees to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle. One perk employees receive is a $500 voucher to purchase a bike to help achieve their fitness goals. One employee noted, “Taking advantage of the bike program is one of the best things I have ever done! Love my bike!” Our passion for cycling extends to the community with our annual sponsorship of a charity bike ride that aims to eradicate hunger. Employees and family members can participate in the ride at no cost and help raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of hungry North Texans. Another popular wellness program is our Biggest Loser competition. This year’s program included 72 employees, who lost a combined 462 pounds!
  • Celebrate Success: Every other Friday, Elevate employees look forward to celebrating successes with a social hour. From giant Jenga to Karaoke to unique themes, no social hour is the same and employees love to unwind with a beer and chat with coworkers. It is important for us to get to know each other, talk business in a casual environment and make connections with people from different departments. Leaders also take the time to celebrate wins with their teams and arrange for fun outings where they can cheers to the completion of a project or overcoming a big challenge. From attending Rangers baseball games, to bowling, to team dinners, it is important that we recognize accomplishments and win together. We also celebrate our families and significant others with annual company-wide family events like this spring’s day at Six Flags Amusement Park and our annual Holiday Extravaganza.
  • Elevate the Community: To make an impact on the communities we serve, we provide both our time and money (3X the investment YOY). Each employee is given 16 hours of paid time per year to volunteer in the community with organizations they feel passionate about. In 2017, we logged over 1,000 individual volunteer hours, and that’s not including group volunteer events. Teams enjoy working together, and one of the biggest projects was assembling and distributing over 100 bikes that Elevate donated to elementary students in an economically disadvantaged area to promote self-reliance. We also partnered with Junior Achievement to teach the value of making smart financial decisions. Our employees taught budgeting skills and how to save for retirement. We also monetarily support the organizations that have a special place in the hearts of our employees through a quarterly charitable giving program where employees submit their charity of choice to receive $500.
  • Women in Technology: We formed an Elevate Women in Technology chapter in August 2017 to attract, retain, and develop strong female technologists. Through guest speakers, book clubs and other events, the 59 members and counting are able to expand their knowledge and impact. Led by our female Chief Information Officer, members enjoy meeting to discuss the challenges and opportunities they face within the industry. They also regularly attend conferences, network with other WIT groups and participate in community outreach programs that promote STEM education for female students – such as partnering with Junior Achievement to teach student about STEM degrees and careers as well as working with Girls Inc. to sponsor a disadvantaged woman starting college in a STEM field. Also, in an effort to promote gender diversity in the R statistical computing space, our San Diego office hosted a networking and book club event for the San Diego chapter of R-Ladies.
  • Deep Work = Dream Work: In July 2017, we started a company-wide practice of Deep Work from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. each day. This means no meetings, no emails - just work. The goals of Deep Work are to help us focus and minimize interruptions, and thus be more productive and innovative. Many employees have noted this is now one of their favorite aspects of working at Elevate. Comments include: "Introducing Deep Work has made major improvements to my work/life balance.” "Deep Work is a great idea and one that I wish I had at past jobs." “The consistent ability to block off time on my calendar provides a great benefit knowing I can put forth effort on key projects and not be pulled away.” Everyone from interns to executives practice Deep Work and embrace the time to not only be more productive and innovative but to work on personal development.
  • Better Together: We are proud to have a diverse population (44% of our employees are diverse) and encourage employees to share their culture with the entire organization. It is important to invest time in learning about our coworkers and their backgrounds to better understand each other and ultimately become closer as a team. One of our most highly anticipated events is our annual Diwali celebration, where an employee committee throws a lunch to celebrate the Festival of Lights and everyone is encouraged to attend, dress up and participate in the festivities. Our CEO and other executives don their best ethnic attire. Everyone looks forward to the Bollywood DJ, traditional dances and employee prepared delicacies that are entered as part of the culinary competition. We are committed to enhancing our cultural programs and are currently researching best practices to determine the next steps to further increase our cultural awareness.
  • Every Voice Counts: Elevate empowers every employee, no matter their position, to let their voice be heard to have an impact on the business. We do not have a “c suite” mentality at Elevate. There are no big offices and our executives have an open door policy. Our culture embraces the sharing of ideas and feedback, whether we are discussing successes or failures; every voice is essential to our growth. Our CEO holds monthly “Cookies with Ken” sessions to meet with employees to listen to their concerns. Changes from office layouts to entire department re-organizations have stemmed from these discussions. We also check-in with new hires to ensure that they have clarity in their role, are connected to their team, and our culture. New hires consistently comment on how they are encouraged to share their opinions and experiences from the beginning and that they feel their opinions are valued.
  • Random Acts of Kindness: Our customers cannot afford another financial burden so we regularly step forward in times of crisis, whether it be natural disasters or the loss of a job. Each quarter, our best customer service employees choose customers going through a crisis and forgive their loans on the spot. Many customers cannot believe their loan was forgiven and even call back to confirm and thank the company. These calls allow our customer service employees to connect with our customers and provide relief when customers are the most vulnerable. One employee said, “In hearing customers’ stories, I absolutely believe in the benefits of the product. Elevate cares about the well-being of every customer and truly invests in the lives of customers.” We also extend the connection by playing recordings of these Random Acts of Kindness calls at orientation and in our Town Halls so all employees hear first-hand the impact they are making.

We find that certain people have the “Elevate” factor – risk takers, innovators and high achievers.  We have found that the best employees have a combination of wicked intelligence, directness when faced with a challenge, passion for change, curious outlook, exceptional work ethic and a collaborative spirit.
