We asked Elevate to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • You Make a Difference: Our leaders strive to ensure employees feel encouraged and appreciated so we customize recognition and awards based on their specific input. Whether it be flowers, lunch, public acknowledgement or gift cards, we ensure their hard work is celebrated in a way each person prefers. We also thank our employees and their families through company-wide events held at venues like the Fort Worth Zoo, Rangers Baseball Stadium, the local drive-in theater and the Botanical Garden. Employee Appreciation Day was celebrated last year with executives delivering gourmet popsicles to all employees. Lastly, we regularly email all employees sports trivia questions and winners receive local hockey, baseball or football tickets, depending on the sports season.
  • Reach for the Stars: Starting at day-one orientation, we encourage our employees to reach for the stars through continuous learning and growth. We discuss how employees can work with their managers to create a Development Pan as well as provide resources like our REACH site. This tool allows employees to access eLearning courses, books, videos, mentoring guides, and certifications. The materials are aligned with our core values and key competencies that drive our success. In 2015, 72% of employees accessed at least one eLearning resource and of those, 94% returned and accessed a variety of resources multiple times. We also invest in our leaders’ development through foundational leadership workshops, external specific skill workshops and a year–long intensive leadership program with assessments, accountability teams, business projects and more.
  • Everyone has a Voice: We want questions, ideas, and obstacles to be discussed so that we can continuously “Raise the Bar”, one of our core values. We actively encourage employees to schedule meetings with any leader all the way up to the CEO. Our leaders manage their own calendars and accept these meetings readily. We have a monthly “Cookies with Ken” discussion where 10-12 randomly selected employees have the opportunity to sit down with Ken, our CEO, and discuss what they love about Elevate, what they would like to change as well as share their ideas to drive that change. We also have a Q&A session at each Town Hall gathering, weekly employee and manager one on one meetings, as well as skip level discussions.
  • In the Know: Our leadership strongly believes in keeping employees “in the know” by making sure they understand not only company news and developments, but also our financials and critical business initiatives. We do this through quarterly Town Halls, CEO emails, and our intranet site. At our Town Hall meetings, executives discuss key business goals from the previous quarter including wins, misses, and lessons learned. Employees look forward to our themed gatherings where we have Elevate swag, such as t-shirts for new product launches, and trivia games such as “Name that Elevate Fact or 80’s Music Fact”, which are fun and encourage participation. Our CEO, Ken also regularly sends candid, company-wide e-mails with updates from our industry, competitors, regulators/government, as well as business opportunities.
  • Party Like a Rock Star: At Elevate, we like to think outside the box and celebrate in ways that will engage our employees and inspire creative thinking. At our latest Town Hall, we debuted a new product commercial that featured the song, “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. So, we enlisted the help of an 80’s cover band to come in and perform the song along with many other 80’s hits at the end of the meeting. Since the event was 80’s themed, employees were encouraged to wear their favorite band T-shirt and the executive team presented in their best rock star front man/woman costumes. From the CEO as Billy Idol to the COO as Axl Rose, the themed event was a great way to celebrate the previous quarter’s successes.
  • Good Today. Better Tomorrow: Our goal is to provide our customers with immediate financial relief and a brighter financial future. We call this approach "Good Today, Better Tomorrow." We not only provide customers with access to competitively priced credit when they need it the most, but we also provide services such as free credit monitoring, rates that can go down over time, and additional educational financial wellness tools. Additionally, when a customer experiences a hardship, we do not participate in harsh collections practices and do not charge fees or penalties. At Elevate, we take pride in our customer service and consistently have net promoter scores of over 50+ for each of our products.
  • Random Acts of Kindness: At times of crisis, we step in to forgive loans or at least the next loan payment. Our customers cannot afford another financial burden and we regularly step forward in times of crisis, whether it be natural disasters or the loss of a job when they are the most vulnerable. For the recent Houston, Texas floods and the Napa, California earthquake, we forgave loan payments. We also forgive loans each quarter for customers that are in crisis. We call this program “Random Acts of Kindness.” Our best customer service representatives gets to choose a customer going through a crisis and forgive their loan on the spot.
  • The Elevate "It" Factor: Cultural fit is a key part of our hiring process. We utilize behavioral interview questions that align with our core values and start assessing the fit even in the phone interview. We look for potential employees who are mission and vision driven, are risk takers, creative, embrace change and adapt to new opportunities. In an ever-changing environment, it is key to hire individuals who can easily adapt and develop innovative ways to shape our future. We value employees who are inventive, have a strong sense of ownership and are team players. One of our core values is “Win Together” so it is important we hire individuals who work well in a collaborative culture.
  • Riding Together: Our CEO Ken Rees has a passion for cycling and to spread this enthusiasm, we offer a $500 voucher for every employee to purchase a bike so they can stay active and pursue their fitness goals. An employee emailed Ken, “I love your enthusiasm and encouragement to promote cycling at Elevate. The bike voucher program not only motivates us to pick out an amazing bike, but also encourages us to do more physical activity.” We also sponsor a professional cycling team as well as an annual bike ride that benefits the local food bank and the Mayor’s Triathlon that benefits the fire department. This way, employees can ride their bike for a cause and get involved in events that benefit the community and inspire others.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We find that certain people have the “Elevate” factor.  Individuals who carry themselves with an air of confidence, are wickedly intelligent and have a high level of curiosity will fit in great with our unique culture. Key characteristics we look for include individuals who are, risk takers, innovative, collaborative and high achievers. Prospective employees who are inspired to try new things and who fail fast and learn from their mistakes, are the ideal candidate at Elevate. We have found that the best employees have a combination of the following: a direct approach when faced with a challenge, a passion for evolution and change, an inventive sprit, a curious outlook, exceptional work ethic and are team players.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

At Elevate, we have high standards. We constantly raise the bar as we deliver better products and lower rates for our customers, which means we are always challenging ourselves. We are looking for innovators who are mission and vision driven so we can make a difference in the lives of our customers. Prospective employees who want to get our attention, should exhibit a strong sense of ownership in their career and have an entrepreneurial spirit.  We also like to have fun and do not take ourselves too seriously. Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

The future at Elevate is bright with evolving customer needs, we are looking for candidates who can help us with Big Data, Risk and Marketing Analytics and Product Management. A position within Big Data requires someone who has an appetite for managing financial-information technology, analytics and numbers. A position in product management offers a constant state of innovation where the candidate would fulfill unmet customer needs and improve our existing products. Marketing Analytics would require a candidate who is passionate about analyzing the digital world where our products are housed.
