Perks and Programs

We asked Echo Global Logistics to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Echo Enrichment: Echo Enrichment originated as a passion project of our CEO, Doug Waggoner, to engage the employee as a whole person, beyond their responsibilities at work. Brought to life through Lunch & Learn style presentations hosted by internal experts or third party vendors in our Chicago headquarters and live-streamed to our other 37+ office locations, these sessions are held about 2-3 times per month and range from industry-specific topics, skills and career development, to other topics aimed at promoting personal growth. Echo Enrichment events help us create what we call work-life harmony, encouraging continuous education and providing our workforce with opportunities to cultivate strengths and interests that impact their lives both inside and outside the office.
  • Echo Engage: Echo Engage is designed specifically for Echo employees to virtually recognize and celebrate each other by awarding "badges." Badges show up on the employee’s profile and in a public newsfeed, similar to any other social network. Echo Engage connects our people regardless of where they work, what they do, and allows our clients and carriers to provide Echo employees with feedback as well. We have seen wide adoption of the system by our Millennial population who represents over 70% of our workforce. Over the last couple of years, Echo Engage has evolved into a virtual version of our workplace and culture, giving our employees a platform to celebrate successes and live our values, The Echo Way.
  • Echo Parents Group: The Echo Parents Group was created by Echo employees who are dedicated to finding a balance between work life and family life. The group provides a support network and organizes events for current and soon-to-be parents. Our goal is to bring people together through toy exchanges, guest speaker events, luncheons, and other events inside and out of the office. Expectant parents are welcomed to the group with a new baby gift box and resource guide on navigating Echo’s benefits for their child.
  • Women in Logistics: Women in Logistics connects all women at Echo across the country through networking and professional development opportunities in what has traditionally been a primarily male dominated field. The group helps us engage and empower women across all of our offices by providing opportunities to participate in events such as a virtual book club, networking happy hours, hosting guest speakers such as female CEOs, and raffles where proceeds go to supporting an all-girls public high school dedicated to developing young women in science, technology, engineering and math, all traditionally male dominated fields similar to logistics.
  • Corporate Citizenship Committee: The Corporate Citizenship Committee is an employee-led group that takes the lead in planning all of our corporate philanthropic events and initiatives. They run point on planning, spreading the word and encouraging our employees to participate in helping out their local communities. Echo’s strong service culture and dedication to social responsibility is inspired by this group of passionate employees. Working with our communities is an important goal for employees at Echo, the Corporate Citizenship Committee drives where and how we can get involved.
  • Echo Pride: Echo Pride is an LGBT network open to all Echo team members, friends, allies and advocates. The purpose of the group is to promote acceptance and inclusiveness in the workplace and to support LGBT charities by hosting regular events inside and outside of the office.
  • Echo Events: At Echo, we are focused on offering a workplace experience that allows everyone to work hard and truly play hard as well. Top performing employees are rewarded with an invitation to our annual Echo Awards Trip, an all-expenses paid vacation to relax, enjoy some sun, network, and learn from other top performing peers. Additionally, we hold all employee Summer and Winter parties in our Chicago HQ location and branches to celebrate successes, accomplishments, and toast to all the great things on the horizon. As an added benefit, our parties are a great way to meet new Echo teammates and build relationships.
  • Telemedicine: We offer a convenient solution to our employees’ healthcare needs called Telemedicine. Through our partnership with Zest Health, we offer our employees easy access to their medical plans through a smartphone app, completely free of charge. Employees can schedule appointments with in-network providers, call in prescriptions and even talk to a nurse or doctor over the phone. Available 24/7, this service allows employees to prioritize their health, create less of a disturbance when they're feeling under the weather, and most importantly, get back to their best selves.
  • FUEL Leadership Development: Echo FUEL is a training program for new and emerging managers designed to support their career development and coach them on how to develop those they lead. We believe that having an efficient, productive workforce at Echo starts with a strong and well-equipped management team. The FUEL program involves round-table discussions on what it means to live our company values, The Echo Way, and how to engage and empower employees. Self-awareness training helps our managers reflect on their leadership style and the personal work styles of their teams so they can lead each individual more effectively.
  • Career Chats: Career Chats gives our employees an opportunity to have an open and honest discussion with a member of Echo’s HR leadership team about their professional aspirations. The 45 minute, one-on-one career conversations are hosted every third Thursday of the month and are available to any employee at any location. The objective is to encourage dialogue around how we can help guide our people toward a fulfilling work experience that taps into employee interests, passions and career goals.

      How to Get Hired

We asked Echo Global Logistics for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

We’ve grown to 2+ billion dollars in revenue in a short time, an achievement that is attributable to the consistent performance of our dedicated workforce. People drive our business; everyone is committed to maintaining the hardworking, enthusiastic, supportive atmosphere we’ve created over the past 11 years. We know that if we hire someone who doesn’t align with what we stand for, it will negatively affect our clients, our investors and our employees. We look to our company values, The Echo Way, to guide hiring decisions. If you work with integrity, “Do What’s Right,” think out of the box to seek innovative solutions, “Better is the Only Option,” are a committed team player, “Carry the Load Together,” show up to work with passion and drive, “Bring Your Own,” and possess more determination and grit than you know what to do with, “Work Hard and Hustle” …we’ll see you on Monday.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Our recruiters are on the lookout for individuals that live by our core values, The Echo Way. We truly believe that working with great people makes you better. Prospective employees can get our attention by showing their understanding of Echo as a company and our place in the logistics industry and that they have given special consideration to the role by going above and beyond our general application process. We appreciate candidates that proactively reach out on LinkedIn, connect with our social media pages, do research on the industry or come recommended by a referral.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

While all of our business units contribute to our success as a company, the sales function is what drives our growth at Echo and is consistently a focus for hiring. Growing our account management teams by hiring organized, customer-oriented Account Executives is a focus as well as we strive to always provide the very best service for our clients and carrier partners by taking the “complicated” out of transportation management. In addition, expanding our scope in technology will be crucial in the coming year as we work towards our goal of becoming a premiere technology-powered company and providing innovative solutions in the logistics space. Expanding the team, with positions such as software developers, will help us continue to improve our systems integrations and provide additional support.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

We’ve found that the most important aspect to assessing if a potential candidate is an Echo fit, job fit and team fit is to be as transparent as possible about the logistics industry and specific job responsibilities. Interested candidates should start with our website and dive deep into our company culture, position in the logistics space, awards and recognition, press releases and social media presence to gain an understanding of what we’re about and where we’re going. We aim to provide a clear picture of what it’s like to work at Echo through articles, videos, pictures and social media posts. Candidates that have done their research and are ready to start living the #freightlife can submit resumes on our careers page, www.echo.com/careers.
