Perks and Programs

We asked DriveTime Automotive Group to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Employee Referral Program: DriveTime provides a tiered referral program to employees who refer candidates for different positions across the company. Employees can receive anywhere from $500 to $5,000 for a referral.
  • Inside Out Leadership Program: After an employee has been with DriveTime for a few months, department leaders nominate them for this leadership program. If selected, the employee takes a battery of tests, including the Myers Briggs personality test, and results are discussed with a personal coach from the Center of Creative Learning. DriveTime facilitates an additional program lasting two-and-a-half days, at which time employees go through a leadership workshop where they learn better ways to communicate as well as tools for success.
  • Accelerated Management Program: DriveTime hires talented individuals and places them in this accelerated program, in which they graduate into leadership positions within a few short months.
  • Theme Days: All throughout the year we host various themed days such as college colors day, jersey day and a day devoted to sporting an ugly holiday sweater to the office. The biggest of these themed days is Halloween, where all DriveTime employees are encouraged to dress up in a costume and create a department-wide skit to perform in front of the office. Often-times these events turn into a friendly competition and prizes are awarded.
  • Monthly Contests: We often have monthly contests in our retail dealerships. We pin our dealerships up against each other and give out all different prizes. Some of the prizes include Nike shoes, cash, DriveTime polos, lunch, etc.
  • Open Environment: We have a very open environment at DriveTime – there are no offices in our entire building; we have no offices in our dealerships and no offices in our call center. In terms of transparency for our employees, everything is wide open. We have meetings and conference rooms, but most times employees meet in huddles. Our senior managers are really in touch with their department managers making sure there is constant communication.
  • Company Fun and Leisure: We like to live by the saying "work hard, play hard" here at DriveTime, that's why we have added different ways for employees to have fun and incorporate some leisure time into their workday. This can take the form of playing a friendly game of ping pong at any of our offices or basketball at many of our locations across the nation. Our corporate office has a conference room devoted to virtual reality and employees can often be found taking the office bicycles for a ride around the area. Other employees enjoy playing darts, Foosball, billiards or shuffleboard!
  • Company Outings: We feel its important for our employees to connect with each other outside of the office setting. We've made sure to dedicate several days throughout the year to office outings such as a day spent at a Spring Training game or our annual golf outing, where employees can join in on some friendly competition. We also encourage departments to participate in team building activities throughout the year, and at the end of the year, we all come together for our holiday party, where we give away prizes ranging from a cruise to iPads, to many gift cards.

How to Get Hired

We asked DriveTime Automotive Group for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

When we search for candidates, there are several different characteristics we are looking for. We prefer to hire prospective employees who demonstrate positive attitudes and high energy levels. Here at DriveTime, we are looking for those who show they will thrive in our culture by connecting with people quickly, are driven to achieve results and are eager to learn as much as possible along the way. Given our open and fast-paced culture, we also strive to hire collaborative individuals who are capable of effectively communicating with others to efficiently reach a common goal.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We recommend prospective employees demonstrate an interest in the role they are applying for as well as in the company as a whole. We love when candidates do their homework, and ask questions during their interview about both what the role will entail and where the company plans to be in the future. We work hard to ensure that the potential employee is a great fit for us, but we also want to know that we are a great fit for the candidate.  We truly appreciate a good story and hope to find individuals who can effectively tell a story about themselves; professionally and personally. What has your journey been? What obstacles have you overcome and what have you learned from them? Because we work in such collaborative environments, and value our company culture, candidates can also get our attention by showing their ability to connect with others quickly.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We are hoping to hire many candidates who showcase the characteristics we are looking for. We're searching for those who demonstrate positive attitudes and high energy levels, who will thrive in our fast-paced, open and collaborative culture. We hope to find individuals who will quickly form strong bonds with other employees, are always up for the opportunity to learn, and will work hard to achieve results. We drive connectivity, change, leadership and curiosity (to name a few) here at DriveTime and are looking forward to finding individuals who share our goals!

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Candidates can begin by taking a deeper look into our company culture and open positions by visiting our career site:! Although we share plenty of great information on our site, candidates should work to do their research on our company - find out what we work to accomplish, as well as what both our customers and employees are saying about us. We highly recommend that interested candidates discover what type of company culture and environment suits them best. Finally, potential employees should have questions about DriveTime, and show they are excited to join a team who works to break apart the industry status quo by rebuilding, redreaming, and reconfiguring the way people think about buying cars!
