Perks and Programs

We asked Disher to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): After one year of service, every team member is eligible to join the ESOP and become an employee-owner. The ESOP comes at no cost to the employee-owner. Each year, there is a stock holders' meeting during which annual contributions (based on company profitability), updated company valuation and stock price are announced.
  • Employee Directed Profit Pie: Employee-owners at Disher get a say in how the profit pie is allocated within profit sharing through semi-annual bonuses, 401k match, research and development, capital expenditures and retained earnings. We do this because we believe employee-owners should help determine company direction, and this includes deciding where money is allocated and invested.
  • Stewardship and Community Commitment: Our commitment in our mission statement is to 'Make a Positive Difference' in the communities we work, live and serve. We do this by tithing our profits through our First Fruits program, donating our time and abilities during work hours, and partnering with select non-profits to expand their impact. Every team member is allowed up to 40 hours of paid time during work hours to volunteer for stewardship events. Disher will also sponsor team members to go on mission trips up to two weeks - in addition to vacation time - by paying for a significant portion of trip costs. Over the past few years, Disher has made an impact through mission trips in Guatemala, Zambia, Haiti, The Dominican Republic, Tennessee, Michigan and many other places.
  • Personal Charity Checks: Our commitment to 'Make a Positive Difference' in our community expands beyond the stewardship events and tithing our team members participate in. Once a year, team members are given a personal check to distribute to the charity or charities of their choice.
  • Standard Issue Nerf Guns and Monthly Fun Activities: Every new hire is presented with a new Nerf gun so Nerf gun fights are prone to break out in the Disher office. Keep in mind these are not only small Nerf guns but rather could be 4 foot long, semi-automatic machine guns with magazines of Nerf bullets. It's a riot!!! We also have other fun activities every month such as Pinewood Derby contests, Turkey Bowl football, Ping Pong March Madness tournament, Living Healthy Challenge, Disher Dashers competitive running team and many more. We work hard at Disher, but we also believe in playing hard.
  • Flexible Work Schedule: Disher emphasizes completing the task at hand over a rigid schedule. Team members have the flexibility to adapt their schedules according to their personal needs and the needs of the project. There is no punching in or punching out. On any given day some employees work from home, a co-working facility, coffee shop or job share to accommodate their personal needs. And leaving early for a child's soccer game or recital or volunteering to go on a field trip is strongly encouraged. As long as they meet the needs of their customer and co-workers the schedule is up to each team member and their coach.
  • No Vacation Limit: One of our twelve culture characteristics is 'Rejuvenation' because we believe in work-life balance. Evidence of that is Disher does not have a set vacation policy. Team members are encouraged to take time off as needed to stay rejuvenated and excited about work. Disher also offers a paid sabbatical to thank team members for their years of service.
  • Training and Tuition Reimbursement: Our people are our most valuable resource and we want them to have the necessary resources to continue to grow in their careers. All team members have up to 80 hours of paid training per year available to them as well as training/conference fees and travel expenses. In addition, Disher will reimburse $6,600 in tuition expenses per year.
  • Access to Space for Personal Events: Our Zeeland office is located in the beautiful and historic Colonial Clock Building. The common areas are available, free of charge, for all team members to reserve for personal events such as birthdays, weddings, high school open houses and bridal showers.
  • Free Lunch Fridays: Every Friday our chef prepares a delicious and healthy meal for the team. The meal is enjoyed during our weekly team meetings. We use these meetings to celebrate the accomplishments of the team, share open book financials, discuss the state of the business, provide training, celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and new babies and cover any other relevant topics for the team.
