Perks and Programs

We asked Cornerstone OnDemand to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Unique Paid Time Off: Cornerstone values work-life balance and rewards employees with unique forms of time off. In addition to providing unlimited Paid Time Off for all exempt employees, Cornerstone also offers distinctive Time Off programs including Foundation Assist Leave and a Sabbatical. The Foundation Assist Leave encouraged employees to take three weeks off to volunteer for a Cornerstone Foundation non-profit partner or initiative during their fifth year at the company. In an employee's seventh year, they are empowered to take a sabbatical that includes seven weeks of consecutive paid vacation. We've seen employees travel the world with their kids, explore solo, celebrate with a staycation at home, or take classes.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Continuous learning and development is a foundational value at Cornerstone. Because of this, all regular, full-time employees are eligible for reimbursement for any degree, program or course that will enhance their contribution to the organization. Employees who have been with the company for 3 years can receive up to $5,000, and employees who have been with the company for at least 7 years can be reimbursed for 5% of their salary or $7,000 annually (whichever is more) for courses and certifications outside of what Cornerstone already offers.
  • Development Days: Every other month, Cornerstone hosts a global Development Day, which consists of approximately 60 training sessions that are curated and taught by employees, for employees. The entire day is set aside for professional and personal development and learning. Classes range from product training and tips for being an effective remote employee to meditation and tequila tastings. The Cornerstone leadership team supports Development Days and set organization expectation that all employees attend. Since starting Development Days four years ago, more than 500 presenters globally have helped train thousands of Cornerstone employees, totaling over 20,000 hours of training. These trainings are streamed, recorded and saved on Cornerstone's internal learning portal for employees to reference again and again.
  • Bring Your Parents to Work Day: Parents of Cornerstone employees are invited to tour Cornerstone's Santa Monica headquarters for the day to gain a better understanding of what their kids do for a living and a holistic sense of the company where they're building careers. Parents attend product demos, information and personal development sessions, and even learn how to optimize their "company pitch" for bragging about their kids. In 2017, 70 parents participated the the full day of activities. They learned about Cornerstone (including a primer on the company's history from CEO Adam Miller), took a tour of the office, and attended a happy hour at The Corner, a restaurant founded by Adam Miller. The event is beloved by employees and parents alike.
  • Bring Your Kid to Work Day: Cornerstone's Bring Your Kid to Work Day is unlike anything you've ever seen. With close to 100 kids under the age of 10, our day of programming focused on applying high level concepts to hands-on engaging activities. We couldn't imagine a better way to teach these little ones about technology than giving them marshmallows and straws to build infrastructure, or helping them understand what it means to find a sales deal by having them search our office for different sized stars representing different deals. The kids develop a great deal of pride in the place their parents work and always ask when they can return.
  • Fun Clubs and Organizations: Employees manage company-wide wine clubs, cycling clubs, diving clubs, women's groups and tech meet-ups. They've also started a number of sports teams including kickball, basketball, soccer, softball and tennis. We also have a baking club called "Flour Power" that engages over 100 members of our team at headquarters. They are broken into smaller teams and are responsible for baking for each other in a rotating cycle. Recipes and feedback are shared in an online community, and at the end of the 12-week cycle, each team selects a baking representative to compete against others in a bake-off called the "ThunderDOUGH-mmm."
  • Spark Mentorships: At Cornerstone, we put community engagement at the forefront of our company culture. Our partnership with the non-profit Spark is one of the most rewarding. Cornerstone employees are matched with junior high school students who have been identified as high risk for dropping out of high school and become their mentors. We bus the students to our office one day per week for 12 weeks, where they meet with their mentor to work on a project that they've passionate about. The program culminated with a showcase, where the students share their projects with their families and their community. Since 2012, we have engaged more than 250 employees and hosted nearly 400 mentorships totaling nearly 8,000 volunteer hours and more than $87,000 in investment.
  • Annual Company Traditions: Cornerstone has great traditions in place that celebrate Cornerstone's founding, legacy and employees. Every summer Cornerstone hosts a Beach Day where the employees work a half day and then spend the remainder of the afternoon at the beach, participating in team-building activities, networking with coworkers and enjoying the Southern California weather. This has become a beloved a Cornerstone summer tradition and is observed creatively across the globe. Cornerstone also celebrated Cornerstone's founding every November. The Anniversary celebration engages global teams in interactive activities that celebrate the success of the company and parties are held in each office around the world.
  • Investment in Learning and Leadership Programs: At Cornerstone we embrace and "always learning" attitude. We offer a myriad of opportunities for employees to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Two leadership training programs that we invest heavily in and that are particularly unique to our organization are Leadership Process: Motivating Achievement (LPMA) and Leadership Process: Motivating Dialogue (LPMD). LPMA articulates individual motivational drivers, provides skills on building and maintaining a positive organizational climate for high achievement and productivity, and arms managers with the knowledge to understand different leadership styles and use them appropriately given the person and the situation. LPMD is a course in self-discovery that focuses on various personality types, psychological needs and channels of communication to give participants the tools to increase their quality of life.
  • Cloud Racers: The Cloud Racers was started 5 years ago by a group of employees who planned to run the LA marathon and wanted to involve their colleagues. Cornerstone loved the idea and agreed to pay all entry fees, purchase uniforms and hire a training coach. In return, runners agreed to follow a training program to avoid injury, attend nutrition classes and raise money for non-profits. More then $70,000 has been donated to Homeboy Industries, Project Hope, Children's Hospital and Lambda Legal. The team has expanded to include a Triathlon team and a cycling team in London. At this time more than 300 employees have crossed the finish line as well as this off their bucket list.
