Perks and Programs

We asked Convene to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Learning and Development: Convene encourages employees to spend 65 hours each year – regardless of tenure or title – on training. The company offers a variety of coach-centric leadership and training programs internally each year, such as Harvard Manage Mentor, Igniting Inspired Leadership and Human Centered Leadership Mastermind. Employees can also use their 65 training hours on external training opportunities of their choice. General Managers and director-level employees receive access to executive coaches as well.
  • Employee Recognition Programs: We love celebrating our employees! In addition to our ongoing peer-to-peer “GRIT Master” recognition program, Convene leadership also nominates employees at the manager level and below to be recognized as the “Colleague of the Quarter.” To do so, they must create a short video about why they are deserving of winning based on great contributions to the company that quarter. At the end of each quarter, the company gathers together to watch the videos over a live Webex and celebrate the nominees and their accomplishments. Additionally, at the end of each year, “Colleague of the Year," “Manager of the Year," "Sales Manager of the Year," and "Founder's Award" winners are announced at the annual holiday party.
  • New Hire Onboarding: Educating new hires and getting them excited about Convene’s culture is one of our biggest passions. Every new hire receives a generous "swag bag" on their first day, complete with a customized giant chocolate business card. Their first week is entirely scheduled upon arrival with meet-and-greets and site tours of every Convene location. An email is sent out to the company within their first week as well, welcoming each new hire to the Covnene family and sharing fun facts so their colleagues can get to know them. Within each new hire’s first month, they will have a coffee with one or both of the company co-founders to get to know them and ask questions.
  • Gratitude Program: Gratitude and empathy are at the core of our business, and at Convene we believe in the power of the written thank you note. Convene’s executive team carves out time during their weekly meetings to write personal thank you cards to people on their teams and throughout the company to show appreciation for their great work. Cards also get sent home for every employee’s birthday and other major milestones (e.g., engagement, wedding, birth of a child, etc.) to celebrate. Even the parents of our interns receive thank you notes from the HR department!
  • Brand Ambassador Program: Convene’s brand ambassador program is made up of more than 40 dedicated employees that volunteer to be role models inside and outside the organization. Some of their main duties include training new hires on the company’s brand and hospitality standards, driving internal quality assurance, piloting new training programs and sharing feedback, and telling Convene’s story internally and externally. It is an honor to be selected to participate in this program, and our brand ambassadors work hard to make sure every employee within the company lives by our core values and understands Convene's vision for the future.
  • Access to Co-Founders: The co-founders of Convene make it a priority to have valuable face time with employees on a very regular basis. They don’t have an office, so they practice “hot desking” and work out of different Convene locations every day. Additionally, they have coffee chats with every new hire – a promise they’ve kept since the company first opened. They also host fireside chats with employees at every location at least one time per quarter to answer questions and have honest conversations with employees across all job functions, levels, and tenure throughout the organization.

How to Get Hired

We asked Convene for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Convene is a values-obsessed organization, and for us, the most important barometer when considering a new hire, is values alignment. We believe that to be successful at Convene one must exhibit GRIT, an acronym for Genuine, Relentless, Integrity, and Teamwork. We believe these characteristics/values are critical to our ability to grow, execute and innovate. In addition to GRIT, our prospective colleagues must have an entrepreneurial spirit, an empathetic mindset, the ability to take risks and the ability to make a sincere and emotional connection to our internal and external stakeholders.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Our business is complex; we operate a network of full-service meeting and event venues, but we also partner with commercial landlords to bring hotel-like amenities and hospitality services to office buildings. We love when prospective employees show us that they have a real interest in understanding our evolving business model and those we serve. If you’re passionate about our business, send us a direct email or LinkedIn message. We want to hear from people that are driven self-starters and have a genuine interest in contributing to the growth of a fast-paced company.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Since Convene is in high-growth mode, we are focused on building out the teams in our two newest markets: Los Angeles and Boston. This year we will be hiring a CIO as well as building a robust technology team and infrastructure. It is also a priority to continue to grow our real estate team to support our growth in new cities, as well as expand our presence in existing cities. Finally, we intend to hire a Global Director of Recruitment to support our rapid growth.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Convene’s Culture page (www.convene.com/culture) is a great resource for interested candidates to get started in exploring a career with us.
