Perks and Programs

We asked Comcast NBCUniversal to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Collaboration@Comcast: Comcast NBCUniversal believes in empowering entrepreneurialism and innovation through collaboration – giving our people a chance to make a difference by making diverse connections and building inclusive relationships. We provide opportunities for employees to showcase their ideas and talents, and work with colleagues from across many different parts of our business. “Summer of Code” is a job rotation program that gives employees an opportunity to join a different team and work on a new project for three months. Participants gain practical experience, learn new skillsets, and gain a broader understanding of another part of our business. “Comcast Crowdsource” is a group think tank program to crowdsource solutions and solicit feedback. We also have an annual competition, “CommTech Jeopardy,” that brings together and celebrates our frontline employees, giving them the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of our products, our company and technical expertise.
  • Cultivating Innovation: We nurture our culture of innovation through inclusion and camaraderie and by offering unique, tangible ways for employees to share their ideas across the enterprise. “Lab Week” is an opportunity for Comcast employees to select a personal project to work on for one week, culminating in a Demo Day where they showcase their ideas senior executives across the business. The project could be outside of their day-to-day job and lead directly to product enhancements, patentable inventions and brand new product offerings. Our Media Labs team hosts Hackathons where teams across Comcast NBCUniversal compete for cash prizes and create new products and services for our businesses and customers. And Customer facing employees can share their ideas on ways to innovate and evolve the customer experience, resulting in prizes like tickets to the NASCAR XFINITY Series Opener.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects our customers and communities is the heart of our Company’s success. Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a key role supporting an inclusive culture, offering hundreds of cultural, networking, and professional development events annually. ERGs also play a big role in supporting the development of our content, services and programming. They provide feedback on new products to ensure we are caring for our diverse customer base – like the creation of a Spanish-language version of our X1 Voice Remote. Today, we have 8 ERGs with more than 30,000 members across 150 chapters. We also offer a national “Employee Enrichment Series” broadcast to increase cultural awareness and educate employees about our D&I efforts. We partner with over a dozen national diverse community organizations generating recruitment and employee engagement opportunities – and our ERG Mentorship program has resulted in promotions for more than half of participants.
  • Support for Our Military: As of December 2017, Comcast NBCUniversal surpassed our company-wide goal of hiring 10,000 veterans, National Guard, Reservists and Military Spouses. In fact, we have hired more than 15,000 members of the military community since 2010 and will continue to embrace and support our veterans, active service members and their families – because it is the right thing to do for our business and for those who have served our Country. We have established a relationship with the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership and created a special Virtual Customer Experience Representative Program, offering flexible, at home working opportunities for qualified veterans and military spouses. To support our military employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve, we offer expanded benefits like supplemental pay and paid military leave, as well as concierge services that provide dedicated support to their families before, during, and after deployment, and a dedicated Veterans ERG.
  • myParenthood: At Comcast NBCUniversal, we know that inclusion goes beyond the walls of the office and that families come in different shapes and sizes. In 2017, we enhanced our parental benefits to offer the same paid-leave options to both women and men, expanded eligibility to include employees who adopt or use a surrogate and increased paid-time off for both the primary and non-primary caregiver. We provide a specialized support team to guide employees through the many stages of being a new parent – because everyone’s journey through parenthood is unique- including planning a family, expecting, and returning to work. We also offer a portfolio of specialized benefits, including fertility, adoption, and surrogacy assistance, a personalized lactation program including free consultations with specialists, back-up child care, behavioral health support and more.
  • Community Investment: Making an impact in the neighborhoods where we live and work is core to our DNA. Over the last 17 years, Comcast Cares Day has become the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts and a culmination of the company’s year-round commitment to community service. In 2017, 115,000 volunteers improved more than 1,200 community sites in the United States and 22 other countries. Since 2001, employees from across the company have contributed to this collective effort, and in 2018 we have a very special reason to celebrate our long history of making change happen by marking one million volunteers. Our Internet Essentials Program has evolved into the nation’s most comprehensive and successful low-income broadband adoption program. We have now connected more than 4 million low-income Americans. Hundreds of our employees volunteer as Internet Essentials ambassadors helping us to connect this program to the members of the community who need it most.
  • Know Your Value Program: Know Your Value is an employee extension of the national program developed by NBCUniversal News Group and MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski. It’s designed to foster a community of people to be empowered to achieve their own vision of success. The events are held across the country and focus on helping individuals define and apply personal brand value to empower career and personal growth. Of the more than 450 employees nominated and selected from across Comcast NBCUniversal, 43% of participants accepted new roles throughout the organization, and 98% of attendees said the program helped them recognize the importance of supporting and encouraging diverse viewpoints within the workforce.
  • Physical, financial and emotional wellbeing: Our wellness programs connect employees to programs that support their wellbeing - physically, emotionally, and financially. Our benefits provide access to support and care that employees and their families need - anytime, anywhere. Some unique benefits include: dedicated Health Assistants that are available, via text or over the phone, to help employees better understand their benefits, navigate care, answer questions regarding costs and claims, and help find providers. Expert second opinion services provide access to top-ranked specialists from across the country who evaluate diagnoses, provide answers, and suggest treatment plans. Employees also have access to 24/7 virtual doctor visits that offer anytime access to a physician who can diagnose and write e-prescriptions, free financial planning, unrestricted behavioral health visits, online stress management and even sleep improvement programs. We also offer discounts to help employees save at major retailers, even on things like home and auto insurance, and credit protection services.
  • Exclusive Branded Employee Experiences: Employees receive special access to our portfolio of brands so they can experience first-hand the different parts of our business, and share their feedback to help us continually improve and innovate. Our Courtesy Services program offers special deals and discounts on our products and services, including deeply discounted Xfinity TV and Internet for employees living in a service area, plus discounts on phone and home technology. We also offer complimentary tickets to our Universal Theme parks each year. There are opportunities for employees to experience our content and entertainment first – like sneak peek screenings of NBCUniversal movies and TV shows, and employee-only events to promote big milestones like the Olympics. We also offer exclusive access and deals on new products before they go to market, including an employee-first launch of XFINITY Mobile, our latest product to join the XFINITY family, and xFi Pods – our wireless WiFi extenders.
