Perks and Programs

We asked Clif Bar & Company to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Wellness Program: We create a workplace that encourages people to pursue their passions and succeed in health and life goals. We have fully equipped wellness centers at two of our largest offices and all gym services are free and available 24/7. Employees get fit through yoga, Zumba, spinning and circuit classes or work 1:1 with fitness trainers. They attend to their health with onsite physical therapy, massage, chiropractic and acupuncture and create healthier habits through classes on everything from meditation to smoking cessation. They can even receive up to $350 annually to participate in athletic events.
  • Community and Giving Back: Clif Bar supports our employees in giving back to their communities. Employees are encouraged to volunteer as much time as they can while on the clock through our CLIF CORPS Program. Clif employees are also encouraged to donate up to 2,000 bars per year to their favorite charity and can have their charitable donations matched up to $2,000 per year. In addition, each year several employees are selected to participate in our In Good Company program, which brings together employees from like-minded businesses for week-long community volunteer projects.
  • Flexible Work Schedule and Time-off: Our people enjoy generous time-off benefits across the company. Our time-off program is tailored to the needs of each location so all employees have access to at least 25 days of paid time off. HQ employees can choose between 9/80 (working 80 hours in 9 days instead of 10) or work from home one day per week. All employees receive a paid sabbatical after 7 years, ranging from 3 weeks with a 3 week cash payout to 6 weeks of paid time-off.
  • Financial and Retirement Benefits: At Clif Bar, we believe that all employees should share in our business’s success, no matter their level in the organization. In addition to a salary that is at or above market rate, new hires are automatically set up with a 401(K) savings plan with a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution for the first 5% of pay deferred, no waiting period and immediate vesting. Every employee has an annual bonus potential of 5% or higher and joins our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after one year, receiving free shares in the company each year. Workshops and 1:1 support around financial health are also offered to employees.
  • Sustainability Benefits Program: We support our employees on their personal journeys toward sustainability by offering incentive programs that encourage them to adopt planet-friendly practices in their everyday lives. Employees who bike, walk, carpool, or take public transit earn up to $1,500 a year in rewards. Those who commute by bike can receive up to $500 toward the purchase of a bike. For the purchase of a greener vehicle, Clif will chip in a $6,500 taxable incentive. Finally, employees who reduce their carbon footprint at home receive up to $1,000 annually for eco-home improvements. Companywide to date, more than 330 employees have utilized the incentive toward the purchase of a bike and more than 380 employees have purchased a greener vehicle with Clif’s financial support.
  • In Good Company: In 2008, Clif Bar founded In Good Company, because we believe that collaboration among businesses can be a powerful force for positive change. In Good Company focuses on providing communities with access to healthy food, healthy housing and a healthy planet. Since its inception, In Good Company has brought together 420 volunteers from 50 like-minded companies, including ours, in the support of 23 nonprofits in 7 communities through collaborative, week-long, volunteer projects nationwide. Each year, we work on 3-4 projects with up to 20 participants per project, or 60-80 participants per year.
  • Learning and Development - White Road Expedition: Our foundational development program, White Road Expedition, a 2-day experiential training, grounds our people in our company values and helps them chart the impact they want to have in their lives and at Clif Bar. It is designed to “kick-off” employees' development at Clif Bar and help them connect to their personal values, strengths and talents, and to bring them to life more fully at work and beyond.
  • Intern Program - NEW: Summer 2017 we had our first class of Clif Bar interns! These 8 interns from 3 universities led projects on 8 different teams at our headquarters, providing valuable business experience to college students and building relationships with a diverse pool of future candidates. Interns focused on a function-specific project, learned from their manager and a mentor, attended lunch and learns, made their own Clif Bar in a "build a bar" workshop and wrapped up the summer with a bowling party.

How to Get Hired

We asked Clif Bar & Company for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Prospective employees have an immediate connection to our Five Aspirations or bottom lines, as well as embody the “Clif Bar Ingredients” (Create, Inspire, Connect, Own It, and Be Yourself).  Successful candidates demonstrate a great deal of flexibility and enjoy a “high-change” environment.  They are genuine Clif Bar & Company ambassadors, who have a passion for being the difference in a different kind of company. Aligned with our fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture, we value applicants with a history that reflects a high level of collaboration, creative thinking and an open and authentic communication style. Finally, we value candidates who don’t check their personality at the door, but are ready to engage at every level in our fun, quirky culture and are ready to martial their passion and commitment to advancing our Five Aspirations.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Demonstrate a history of passion and support for the values reflected in our Aspirations and Ingredients. Have the right mix of experience and expertise for the role for which they are applying. Be excellent, enthusiastic and effective communicators with a strong sense of self-awareness. Bring knowledge of Clif Bar and a zeal for our values to the interview process, including showcasing their passion through our on-line questionnaire.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

We hire a variety of roles in manufacturing, sales, marketing, product communications, food safety, supply chain, and corporate staff (financial, accounting, IT).

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?
