  • Caring Company Initiatives: Burlington associates support several charities including our Warm Coats & Warm Hearts coat drive in partnership with Delivering Good, Inc. and ABC’s GMA. During a ten year partnership, over 1.8 million new and gently-used coats have been donated. We are the #1 corporate sponsor for WomenHeart Health and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Event. Over the last six years, we’ve raised over $8 million in funds for WomenHeart to benefit women’s heart health. Between our customer and company donations we’ve raised over $29 million during our 15 year partnership in the fight against blood cancers. We recently introduced “Day of Giving” allowing corporate and supply chain associates to spend a workday with their teams at an offsite location supporting a local charitable or non-profit organization.
  • Recognition and Appreciation Programs: Our CEO Awards recognize approximately 90 associates per quarter who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to our organization. Winners receive a certificate and monetary award, and are invited to a luncheon hosted by the CEO and senior leaders. The Brag Program offers our team the opportunity to nominate one another for special recognition. Those nominated for a Brag receive a Brag certificate and recognition from their manager. Each week, we receive about 600 nominations for this program (a 20% increase from last year). Store Managers are empowered to use a monetary discretionary fund each month on an activity of their choice as an appreciation to their associates. This includes cupcake celebrations, pizza parties, birthday parties, etc.
  • Associate Development Programs: Leading @ Burlington (L@B): L@B is a year-round development program designed for corporate and supply chain leaders which focuses on themes that stem from the Burlington Leadership Competency Model. Leadership Engagement & Development Program (LEAD): LEAD is designed to provide high potential store leaders with innovative leadership development training and networking opportunities, and help prepare them to take on greater areas of responsibility within the organization. Assistant Buyer On-Boarding: Burlington developed a comprehensive Assistant Buyer onboarding program that includes job shadowing, market visits, and instructor led training. This is the first step toward advancement within the merchant organization. New Leader Series: Instructor led sessions geared towards new leaders to Burlington or associates who were recently promoted into a leadership role.
  • Inclusion and Diversity: At Burlington, “We Believe Everyone Matters.” Of our more than 35,000 associates, 74% are female and 70% are people of color. We support our diversity partners, the Black Retail Action Group, the Philadelphia NAACP and the Pennsylvania Women’s Conference. Our corporate and store Diversity & Inclusion Councils focus on promoting and delivering diversity/inclusion programs throughout the organization. We started a Veteran Program recognizing our Veterans by providing a thank you letter upon hire, providing Burlington branded commemorative coins on Veteran’s Day and a “Veteran” ribbon on their name badge. Our associates respect and celebrate what makes us different. In our 2016 associate engagement survey, 90% of our associates agreed that “Burlington makes it easy for people of diverse backgrounds to fit in and be accepted.”
  • Unique Associate Perks: Associates enjoy several perks tied to their employment with Burlington, including a state-of-the-art corporate campus (new/renovated buildings and cafeteria), with a complimentary on-site fitness facility, on-site Starbucks, dry cleaning services, ATM (with no fee), basketball courts, and designated expectant mother parking spots conveniently located closest to building entryways; Summer hours for corporate associates (early Friday office closure in summer months); Burlington branded "onesies" are gifted to all newborn babies of associates; 15% associate discount for all purchases made in our stores and online and special “extra” discount opportunities throughout the year; associates receive a birthday card signed by their teammates on their birthday. We are unlike many retailers in that we are closed on Thanksgiving so our associates can spend time with their family.
  • Family Friendly Benefits and Practices: Burlington associates’ families enjoy perks as well! Eligible family members enjoy 15% off all purchases in our stores and online, with special discount opportunities throughout the year. Take Your Child to Work Day: Burlington invites associates’ children to be part of the fun, which has included a D.J., fashion show, photo booth, and an educational activity in our distribution centers. Breakfast with Santa: Associates gather at the Burlington DC for a day of fun, food, festivities, sand art and face painting. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk: Associates and their families rally together annually to support the fight against blood cancers. Burlington is a sponsor of the event and provides snacks and entertainment, including giveaways, music, and a magician.
  • Unique Communication Tools and Practices: Our company-wide Town Hall is held bi-annually where leadership provides live business updates to all corporate associates and streamed live to remote associates. Quarterly, store managers and field leadership attend a conference call with our Chairman, President and CEO. During “Talk with Tom,” leaders are provided updates on performance and focus areas for the next quarter. Flat screen TVs (BTV) are used in select locations to deliver information to associates digitally using text, photos, video. Updates include company news, training info, safety reminders. In 2017, we launched “Table Talkers.” These are two-sided table-top signs located throughout the store break rooms and our corporate office. Each Table Talker has a QR Code where associates can learn more about the topic of the current week’s Table Talker.
  • Fitness and Wellness Programs: Burlington has been recognized as a Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for the past two years. We provide opportunities for associates to become aware of their health and receive discounts on medical plan premiums by completing a biometric screening. Annually, Burlington hosts a benefits & wellness fair in preparation for open enrollment. Our benefits providers attend to share plan information. Our latest event included a juice bar, massage chairs, healthy recipes to-go. The Heart Health Walking Challenge is another wellness event where associates track steps and compete for prizes. Burlington offers a 7-week tobacco cessation program, which builds a plan to quit and provides ongoing support. Calorie counts were added throughout the cafeteria, healthy meal options being offered daily, fresh juices made daily.
  • Unique Aspects of Healthcare Benefits: Beyond standard healthcare, Burlington provides a handful of unique benefits for its associates. Resources for Living is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers resources, information, and support in balancing the demands of family, job, personal needs including child care, elder care, caregiver support, college planning. 24/7 Nurse Line: Available for enrolled associates to talk directly with a Registered Nurse (RN), listen to recorded health topics, and get medical advice for associates and their families. Doctor on Demand: provides enrolled associates access to Board Certified physicians for a face-to-face video visit from a mobile device or computer. Legal Plan Coverage: provides access to more than 12,000 experienced attorneys on unlimited matters. Pet Insurance: Nose-to-tail Comprehensive Coverage for our furry friends.
  • Sustainable and "Green" Practices: Burlington is focused on reducing our carbon footprint by making our corporate offices, supply chain, and stores more energy efficient. We considered our impact on the environment in the construction of our new corporate offices and renovations of stores, with energy efficient mechanical, electrical, HVAC and lighting designs that exceed industry standards. The Burlington corporate campus provides filtered water stations that reduce plastic bottles in landfills and also offers charging stations for electric vehicles to all corporate associates. We have shifted from shipping goods 100% by trucks to less than 30% in 2016, by utilizing greener trains/rail solutions. We are currently working on a re-lamping project throughout all company locations. We are switching all light bulbs to LED which are 20-30% more efficient and last 2-3 times longer.
