Perks and Programs

We asked Burlington Stores, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Caring Company Partnerships: Burlington associates support several charities including our Warm Coats & Warm Hearts coat drive in partnership with Delivering Good, Inc. and ABC’s GMA. In 2017, 172,000 coats were collected bringing our total collection over the past 11 years to 2 million coats. We are the #1 corporate sponsor for WomenHeart Health and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Event. Over the last seven years, we’ve raised nearly $10 million in funds for WomenHeart to benefit women’s heart health. Between our customer and company donations we’ve raised over $32 million during our 16 year partnership with LLS in the fight against blood cancers. In our inaugural year of partnership with "" we collected $1.55 million, enabling 3,000 teachers to get the school supplies for 75,000 students.
  • Burlington's "Day of Giving": Burlington’s “Day of Giving” encourages corporate and supply chain associates to spend a workday with their teams at an offsite location supporting a local charitable or non-profit organization. In 2017, over 850 corporate/DC associates volunteered over 3,300 hours of their time in support of 23 different local organizations.
  • Associate Assistance Fund: Burlington’s Associate Assistance Fund (AAF), founded in May 2018, provides financial grants to associates in need whose primary residence is damaged or destroyed following an unforeseen natural disaster or qualifying event. AAF is a cooperative program, funded by Burlington associates, for Burlington associates; it enables all of us to help members of our Burlington family during times of need. Burlington makes an annual donation to the fund to support associates in need and to cover all administrative expenses. 100% of every associate donation goes to an associate in need.
  • Recognition and Appreciation Programs: Our CEO Awards recognize approximately 85 associates per quarter who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to our organization. Winners receive a certificate, paperweight, and monetary award, and are invited to a luncheon hosted by the CEO and senior leaders. The Brag Program offers our team the opportunity to nominate one another for special recognition. Those nominated for a Brag receive a Brag certificate and recognition from their manager. Each week, we receive over 550 nominations for this program. Store Managers are empowered to use a monetary discretionary fund each month on an activity of their choice as an appreciation to their associates. This includes cupcake celebrations, pizza parties, birthday parties, etc.
  • Associate Development Programs: Leading @ Burlington (L@B): L@B is a year-round development program designed for corporate and supply chain leaders which focuses on themes that stem from the Burlington Leadership Competency Model. Leadership Engagement & Development Program (LEAD): LEAD is designed to provide high potential store leaders with innovative leadership development training and networking opportunities, and help prepare them to take on greater areas of responsibility within the organization. Assistant Buyer On-Boarding: Burlington developed a comprehensive Assistant Buyer onboarding program that includes job shadowing, market visits, and instructor led training. This is the first step toward advancement within the merchant organization. New Leader Series: Instructor led sessions geared towards new leaders to Burlington or associates who were recently promoted into a leadership role.
  • Inclusion and Diversity: At Burlington, “We Believe Everyone Matters.” Of our more than 35,000 associates, 75% are female and 70% are people of color. We proudly support our diversity partner, the Black Retail Action Group. Our corporate and store Inclusion & Diversity Councils focus on promoting and delivering diversity/inclusion programs throughout the organization. We recognize our Veterans by providing a thank you letter upon hire, providing Burlington branded commemorative coins on Veteran’s Day, and a “Veteran” ribbon on their name badge. Our associates respect and celebrate what makes us different. In our 2017 associate engagement survey, 91% of our associates agreed that “Burlington makes it easy for people of diverse backgrounds to fit in and be accepted.”
  • Unique Associate Perks: Associates enjoy several perks tied to their employment with Burlington, including a state-of-the-art corporate campus (new/renovated buildings and cafeteria), with a complimentary on-site fitness facility, on-site Starbucks, dry cleaning services, ATM (with no fee), basketball courts, and designated expectant mother parking spots conveniently located closest to building entryways; Summer hours for corporate associates (early Friday office closure at 1:00 PM in summer months); Burlington branded "onesies" are gifted to all newborn babies of associates; 15% associate discount for all purchases made in our stores and online and special 30% discount opportunities throughout the year; associates receive a birthday card signed by their teammates on their birthday. We are unlike many retailers in that we are closed on Thanksgiving so our associates can spend time with their family.
  • Family Friendly Benefits and Practices: Burlington associates’ families enjoy perks as well! Eligible family members enjoy 15% off all purchases in our stores and online, with special discount opportunities throughout the year. Take Your Child to Work Day: Burlington invites associates’ children to be part of the fun, which has included a D.J., fashion show, photo booth, and an educational activity in our distribution centers. Breakfast with Santa: Associates gather at the Burlington DC for a day of fun, food, festivities, sand art and face painting. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk: Associates and their families rally together annually to support the fight against blood cancers. Burlington is a sponsor of the event and provides snacks and entertainment, including giveaways, music, and a magician.
  • Unique Communication Tools and Practices: Our bi-annual Town Halls feature members of our senior leadership team providing candid business updates to our associates. Quarterly, our store managers and field leaders participate in conference calls with our Chairman, President and CEO and members of his senior leadership team to hear business results and focus areas for the next quarter. Our in-house production studio creates and distributes over 90 videos annually to improve associates’ knowledge, understanding, and connection to company news and initiatives. Flat screen TVs in select locations deliver information via text, photos, animation, and video on a variety of topics. Our bi-weekly “Table Talkers” (two-sided table-top signs located in store break rooms) help facilitate communication to our desk-less associates. In the last three years we have made substantial investments in our company intranet to give associates easy access to relevant, timely, and engaging information about working at Burlington.
  • Fitness and Wellness Programs: Burlington has been recognized as a Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for the past three years. We provide opportunities for associates to become aware of their health and receive discounts on medical plan premiums by completing a biometric screening. Annually, Burlington hosts a benefits & wellness fair in preparation for open enrollment. Our benefits providers attend to share plan information. Our latest event included a juice bar, massage chairs, healthy recipes to-go. The Heart Health Walking Challenge is another wellness event where associates track steps and compete for prizes. Burlington offers a 7-week tobacco cessation program, which builds a plan to quit and provides ongoing support. Calorie counts were added throughout the cafeteria and healthy meal options are being offered daily.

How to Get Hired

We asked Burlington Stores, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

Do you love to make people smile? Are you a problem-solver who can think on your feet?  If so, you’d be a perfect addition to Burlington!  We look for candidates who have a positive attitude and are customer service focused.  Candidates must be personable and enjoy engaging with others, whether a customer or coworker! The next Burlington associate will have these qualities, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, exciting environment.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

Our next associate should be excited to start a career with Burlington, not just any retailer – “We Are An Off-Price Retailer.”  Do some research on our off-price business model, our culture, and our company history.  Check out our social media pages on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.  Like what you see?  Come in for an interview prepared to have a thoughtful conversation and explore how this could be the start of a long-term relationship between you and the company.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Burlington continues to expand by opening approximately 30 net new stores a year. With that growth comes career opportunity – “We Win Together!”  We are particularly focused on hiring the best talent as store associates, store management, buyers, planners and allocators.  Burlington offers jobs that fit your style and careers that fit your life.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

We encourage candidates to visit our career site at to learn more about the “Our Burlington” culture and available job opportunities in our stores, corporate offices & distribution centers.  Social media is also a great way for candidates to interact with Burlington.  Find us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube and follow or like us!  We post content every day to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look into “Our Burlington” culture.  You’ll hear from current Burlington associates sharing what it’s like to work here, view job openings and review helpful career advice. You’ll also learn how we support our local charitable organizations to raise funds and awareness for some great causes, get to know more about our diversity initiatives, and see some of our wonderful associate appreciation events.  Candidates can join the conversation by posting comments, sending us direct/private messages with questions, or tagging Burlington in their own posts.
