Perks and Programs

We asked BlueGranite, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • WFH/Flex: BlueGranite provides work from home and flex time options to all employees, encouraging each team member to achieve work-life balance while respecting other team members and clients. We also offer the opportunity to equip home offices and/or take advantage of work/share space as desired.
  • Unlimited Time Off: BlueGranite builds PTO into the expected annual allocation, but allows vacation, floating holidays and Personal days to be used entirely at each employee’s discretion. This includes the ability to balance additional, unlimited time off with client and team commitments.
  • Professional Development Program: BlueGranite allocates both time and budget to every team member to use at their discretion while pursuing technical or professional skills within the scope of our firm. This includes classes, books, conferences, materials or anything within reason! We believe that each team member is best suited to select the methods that they respond to best in continuing to develop a world-class skillset.
  • Career Control: BlueGranite tracks employees on Value Contribution rather than Client Utilization. In addition to doing great work for our clients, this allows team members to contribute to any activity in the value chain of the firm, from Technology Leadership to Business Development to Operations to Marketing.
  • Skill Match: BlueGranite maintains an active program to help track the technical and non-technical skills that are the keys to success. Team members are also encouraged to flag the skills they are excited about, or technologies they have interest in, and our Operations team works to match up all team members to provide opportunities to work with the skills they desire.
  • Staff Retreat: Every year, BlueGranite brings all team members together in a resort/conference setting to participate in team building activities, social events, strategic discussions and presentations and general fun. We also hold smaller, regional events throughout the year. Being a distributed team, we find these events invaluable for promoting our team spirit and culture, in addition to being a great time!
  • Referral Bonus: BlueGranite has a permanent referral bonus in place to encourage team members to help find great new additions! While we do have a rigorous hiring process, the personal referral of an already trusted team member is a great way to help candidates stand out, and we reward our team members for helping us grow.
  • Promoted Mentorship: At BlueGranite, we want to encourage our team to take time to help each other out. We believe that what each of us accomplishes, we all accomplish. To reinforce this, we record mentoring each other or helping out as Technology Leadership time, which counts on equal footing with time spent in any other value-add activity.
  • Inclusive Business Development: At BlueGranite, we have set about to eliminate or mitigate the inherent gap that can arise between traditional sales and delivery by creating an inclusive business development process. Our delivery leads are active in the business development process as pre-sales technical contributors, and our account leads are not commissioned on sales, but instead can earn bonuses from the same metrics as their delivery peers - from revenue and margin.
  • TinyPULSE: BlueGranite leverages an ongoing, anonymous survey and feedback tool called TinyPULSE that has helped us channel continuous feedback, and inform policies and programs, including recent investments in healthcare benefits, and changes to how our delivery team supports the business development efforts. In addition, once per quarter, we track the overall happiness of our employees at work, based upon a 1-10 scale. We receive industry benchmarks, and have set a goal upon continuous improvement. Results in the most recent quarter (Q4 2016) have pegged us at our highest average Happiness levels since we began tracking the metric 18 months ago!

How to Get Hired

We asked BlueGranite, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At BlueGranite, we seek to identify candidates with the right attitude and aptitude to become contributing members of our team, and provide them with the right framework and support to succeed!

In addition to technical skill with our key tools and sharp business acumen, success comes from self-managed, motivated and curious consultants who are passionate about data and analytics.

In a distributed organization like BlueGranite, our team members need to be excellent communicators, across a range of mediums. We interact with each other and our clients through documents, email, IM, voice calls, video calls and web meetings, in addition to face to face.  Successful candidates can leverage multiple mediums to demonstrate their professional demeanor, and to convey competence and confidence, and we look at these types of details during the interview process.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We look for candidates who demonstrate more than technical skill - it's the aptitude (and attitude!) that get our attention.  Showcasing a history of motivated, self-directed learning or exploration, combined with doing the right amount of research to be informed and knowledgeable and having thoughtful and prepared stories and questions to share during the interview process highlights some of the skill that helps a consultant always have a great impression with clients.

Additionally, we look for people who show some passion in the data and analytics space, and honestly this is hard to fake. During our recruitment and interview process, we look for signs of excitement and passion for the technology and types of projects and clients that we work with.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

While we are always looking for seasoned veterans to add to our team, we are especially excited to bring on new team members who can leverage their aptitude to learn from the tremendous team we already have.  Our team is stacked with expertise and talent, and we believe there is a tremendous opportunity for young professionals looking to learn from the best and ready to take on responsibility and prove they have what it takes to succeed.

We have many opportunities for folks ready to take on leadership and responsibility, while providing the mentorship and guidance necessary to make the most of those opportunities. Specifically, people who have been working for a couple years in database or reporting positions, but have not had the opportunity to perform up to their capabilities for organizational or other reasons, are encouraged to apply for our Staff and Solution Consultant roles.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates should spend time reviewing our website materials – getting to know the subjects and expertise that makes our team great – and consider the detailed job descriptions located at . Once the position is selected and applied for, be prepared to proceed through our evaluation process which will help us understand technical experience and depth, critical thinking and aptitude, and communication and consultative skills.  It is not a short process – we put significant time and effort into our interviews and evaluations in order to build a world-class team, and the results have been nothing short of amazing!

We encourage interested candidates to submit their resumes and applications through our web portal, and look forward to helping identify the best mutual fit for individual career and organizational success!
