Perks and Programs

We asked BlueGranite, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • WFH/Flex: BlueGranite provides work from home and flex time options to all employees, encouraging each team member to achieve work-life balance while respecting other team members and clients. We also offer the opportunity to equip home offices and/or take advantage of work/share space as desired.
  • BlueGranite Gives Back: Two programs in one! #1 - Team members nominate and then select a non-profit to support, and the entire company participates in group fund-raising for the selected organization. BlueGranite matches 100% of employee donations. #2 - During the month of June, all BlueGranite employees are encouraged to team up and volunteer for a non-profit in their community while recording a full day of Contribution. BlueGranite provides event t-shirts, and requires only 'action-shot' photos of our team in action! In 2017, approximately 80% of our team volunteered with fantastic organizations in 6 different communities around the country.
  • OKRs: BlueGranite has introduced a system of OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) to promote visibility and accountability in an otherwise highly empowered environment. Team members create quarterly objectives, and can review/align with other individuals, teams or corporate objectives, and showcase how they are adding value / contributing to team success. These are highly autonomous goals - managers do not set OKRs for individuals, rather everyone is encouraged to interact, align, and demonstrate how their goals and passions help BlueGranite thrive!
  • Career Control: BlueGranite tracks employees on Value Contribution rather than Client/Billable Utilization. In addition to doing great work for our clients, this allows team members to contribute to any activity in the value chain of the firm, from Technology Leadership to Business Development to Operations to Marketing.
  • Craftable - Skill Tracking: BlueGranite built a paradigm shift into skill management with Craftable (tm) - a custom application to help track the technical and non-technical skills, excitement, and goals of our creative workforce. Team members can chart their skill development, capability acquisition, career path, and learning plans with 'team-sourced' help from their peers. Operations works with this application daily to provide professionally satisfying work opportunities and put job-crafting into the hands of our team members.
  • Road Warrior Bonus: BlueGranite balances the benefits of a flexible, work from home (WFH) model with the value of our team being face to face with our clients by adding an additional bonus to consultants on the road. In 2017, the Road Warrior Bonus showed our appreciation for the value added from building relationships with our clients while working on site by providing a quarterly bonus for every day spent on the road, from same-day road trips requiring some extra hours away from home, to spending a week on-site with a client in another state.
  • Profit Share & Performance Bonus: BlueGranite has two programs that work together for annual bonus payouts - the Profit Share recognizes every team member's role in a successful year by providing a cash bonus to all employees, graduated by years of service (~1-2% of base salary). Additionally, every team member is eligible for a personal performance bonus that recognizes their individual contributions to the organization, and scales on personal results against key metrics (~3-5% of base salary).
  • Staff Retreat: Every year, BlueGranite brings all team members together in a resort/conference setting to participate in team building activities, social events, strategic discussions and presentations and general fun. We also hold smaller, regional events throughout the year. Being a distributed team, we find these events invaluable for promoting our team spirit and culture, in addition to being a great time!
  • Inclusive Business Development: At BlueGranite, we have set about to eliminate or mitigate the inherent gap that can arise between traditional sales and delivery by creating an inclusive business development process. Our delivery leads are active in the business development process as pre-sales technical contributors, and our account leads are not commissioned on sales, but instead can earn bonuses from the same metrics as their delivery peers - from revenue and margin.
  • Continuous Feedback: BlueGranite leverages an ongoing, anonymous survey and feedback tool that has helped us channel continuous feedback, and inform policies and programs. We also allow for spot feedback to be requested by any team member at any time for performance or other contributions, and regularly encourage all team members to provide feedback on standard processes and opportunities with a robust tool that helps streamline anonymity, data collection, and customization.

How to Get Hired

We asked BlueGranite, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

At BlueGranite, we seek to identify candidates with the right attitude and aptitude to become contributing members of our team, and provide them with the right framework and support to succeed!  In addition to technical skill with our key tools and sharp business acumen, success comes from self-managed, motivated, and curious consultants who are passionate about data and analytics.  In a distributed organization like BlueGranite, our team members need to be excellent communicators across a range of mediums. We interact with each other and our clients through documents, email, IM, voice calls, video calls and web meetings, in addition to face to face.  Successful candidates can demonstrate their professional demeanor and convey competence and confidence, and we look at these types of details during the interview process.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We look for candidates who demonstrate more than technical skill - it's the aptitude (and attitude!) that get our attention.  Showcasing a history of motivated, self-directed learning or exploration, combined with doing the right amount of research to be informed and knowledgeable and having thoughtful and prepared stories and questions to share during the interview process highlights some of the skill that helps a consultant always have a great impression with clients. Additionally, we look for people who show passion for data and analytics, and honestly this is hard to fake. During our recruitment and interview process, we look for signs of excitement and passion for the technology and the types of projects and clients that we work with.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

While we are always looking for seasoned veterans to add to our team, we are especially excited to bring on new team members who can leverage their aptitude to learn from the tremendous team we already have.  Our team is stacked with expertise and talent, and we believe there is a tremendous opportunity for young professionals looking to learn from the best and ready to take on responsibility and prove they have what it takes to succeed.  We have many opportunities for folks ready to take on leadership and responsibility, while providing the mentorship and guidance necessary to make the most of those opportunities. Specifically, people who have been working for a couple years in database or reporting positions, but have not had the opportunity to perform up to their capabilities for organizational or other reasons, are encouraged to apply for our Staff and Solution Consultant roles.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

Interested candidates should spend time reviewing our website materials – getting to know the subjects and expertise that makes our team great – and consider the detailed job descriptions located at https://bluegranite.bamboohr.com/jobs/ . Once the position is selected and applied for, be prepared to proceed through our evaluation process which will help us understand technical experience and depth, critical thinking and aptitude, and communication and consultative skills.  It is not a short process – we put significant time and effort into our interviews and evaluations in order to build a world-class team, and the results have been nothing short of amazing! We encourage interested candidates to submit their resumes and applications through our web portal, and look forward to helping identify the best mutual fit for individual career and organizational success!
