The tech sector is hiring and there are some great workplaces to join. But how do you choose where to apply? Are stalwarts like IBM, Oracle and Microsoft the best place for you? What about Google and Yahoo or social media leaders like Twitter and Facebook? How do smaller start-ups compare?
To help job seekers decide which workplace is the best fit for them, Great Place to Work®'s Great Rated!™ today released a list of top 20 technology workplaces, as decided by employees themselves. Workday, Worldwide Technology and Ultimate Software rank at the top of the larger companies being recognized, while Visionist, Agilethought and Square Root are among those to take the prize for small and medium companies.
Companies like Google (#4 on the large ranking) have made lavish perks famous. But they – and the other companies recognized – offer way more to attract and keep top talent than the stock options, bonus programs, free meals and Nerf-gun toting hijinks they are famous for. Leaders at these tech organizations place a significant emphasis on operating with transparency, avoiding internal politics and favoritism and creating the collaborative environments that are so critical for their industry. The perks they do provide are meant to support and thank employees for the hard work demanded in their fields – whether through amenities that provide work-life balance, financial incentives that give everyone a stake in the company's success, or career-building professional development opportunities.
Prospective employees should consider the personal rewards that are most meaningful to them when they sign up to work at any of these workplaces. Work-life balance support that includes a prohibition against Saturday emails? One hundred percent employer-paid healthcare for yourself and your family? The chance to work on pet projects with talented peers? Maybe a business mission to make you proud or the chance to give back to the community?
To find out more about what employees at these companies – and others in the technology industry – say their workplaces have to offer, check out their Great Rated! Reviews. Each review is based on confidential employee surveys that are distributed to enough current employees to provide statistically valid insight into each companies' strengths.
