How to Get Hired
We asked Blick Art Materials for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.
What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
Individuals who are creative, smart, hard-working, organized, and have a desire to be part of a successful team will thrive at Blick. Our founding principles of offering an outstanding selection of high-quality products, great prices, and exceptional customer service have helped us achieve phenomenal growth, longevity (106 years), and industry leadership. We hope these principles motivate prospective associates to want to work at Blick. What’s more, we strive to nurture a climate that brings forth the best in every associate, we encourage diversity, and we embrace emerging technologies so we can continue to grow. At Blick, our associates learn about every area of the business through contact with both their immediate managers and senior management. They’re also given the appropriate tools, including the latest technology, to do their jobs, and they enjoy an outstanding benefits package, all while directly influencing company performance. That’s unusual, and that’s what we hope will inspire others to join us.
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
Blick Art Materials is always interested in interviewing talented people who want to work for a great company. Some of the things that capture our attention most are doing well in school and having a creative flair that can be demonstrated. If you're interested in joining our team, please send your resume and a cover letter that includes your career objectives and interests to email@example.com. Blick always keeps resumes on file, so even if we're not hiring at the current time, you should contact us — we may pull up your resume if we have a future opening in your area of expertise or interest. Your cover letter should include how and why you’ve made a positive difference in your community, college, university, and previous employment, and how you hope to draw on those positive experiences to make a difference at Blick.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
Blick Art Materials is always interested in meeting new, interesting, talented people. Our dozens of retail stores across the country experience higher turnover when our part-time student associates graduate and move on, so we hire for those positions throughout the year. Our distribution center in Monroe Township, New Jersey, continues to expand, and we continue to hire new associates at that facility. Last but not least, we’re always adding to our Information Technology and Information Systems teams as the company continues to grow.
