Perks and Programs

We asked BayCare Health System, Inc. to share a few programs they feel really capture what's unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.

  • Helping Team Members through Difficult Times: BayCare emergency assistance funds were set up to provide financial assistance to team members facing an unexpected emergency situation that results in a financial hardship. Funds are 100% donated from the generosity of other team members and physicians, and are also raised through various campaigns and the local ticket sales program. In addition, BayCare understands that team members may have stress and anxiety, which is why confidential assistance for general family or work-related problems is provided at no cost through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Beginning on the first day of employment, BayCare’s EAP provides free, confidential assistance, including up to six free visits per person per year, to team members and their immediate family members when experiencing emotional or personal problems.
  • Focus on Team Member Health & Wellness: BayCare strives to make wellness a part of its culture and offers “Connect to a Healthier Me” to help team members focus health improvements. Team members participating in the activities and challenges may earn High Five Rewards redeemable for merchandise or gift cards. BayCare also partnered with Fitbit® to offer discounts on the popular wireless trackers, and teamed up with Weight Watchers® to offer team members 50% off! We have three convenient BayCare Fitness Centers where team members are eligible for special monthly membership pricing for the entire family, with no enrollment fee and the convenience of payroll deduction. Team members can also enjoy special membership discounts at a variety of other fitness locations throughout the Tampa Bay Area including the YMCA, LA Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Orange Theory Fitness, Pure Barre and many others.
  • Helping Team Members Save for the Future: Team members are automatically enrolled in the Retirement Plan’s traditional 401(k) account, featuring an Annual 2% Core Contribution and allows team members to make a before-tax contribution. For every dollar team members contribute up to 6%, BayCare contributes 50 cents. The 2017 Annual Match and Core Contributions were more than $61.1 million! Our retirement team also offers an array of financial planning benefits including onsite one-on-one meetings with planning and guidance consultants, free financial education workshops, and a variety of online tools and resources. In addition to our Retirement Plan, all benefit-eligible team members are offered a convenient way to invest in a 529 College Savings Plan, which allows contributions through payroll deduction. As little as $25 a pay period (taken on a post-tax basis) can be put into an account and grow tax-free when used for qualified education expenses.
  • Credit Unions Offer Banking Alternative: Team members are eligible to join a credit union through their hospital campus. Credit unions in general offer free membership, lower-interest loans, free or low-cost account services and more personalized service.
  • Supporting Professional Development: Continued learning is the key to advancing careers and helping our team members meet their full potential as an important member of our organization and our community. Through our Tuition Assistance Program, BayCare invests in team member education by reimbursing 100% of tuition and books for approved courses, up to $3,000 per year. BayCare also offers several special programs for individuals wanting to enter the nursing profession! The St. Petersburg College Associate Degree Nursing program and Earn as You Learn Program allows team members to work a limited number of hours and receive expanded tuition and book allowances. Team members and their children may also be eligible for a variety of scholarships sponsored by the Foundations that support the Health System. Additionally, a variety of other specialty programs are offered in coordination with local colleges and universities based on availability.
  • Adoption Assistance Helps Families Grow: Both full- and part-time team members are eligible to be reimbursed $4,500 per adopted child after one year of service. This assistance program helps cover private or public adoption fees from licensed agencies as well as court and legal fees.
  • Robust Reward & Recognition Programs: BayCare knows the importance of showing our appreciation and rewarding team members for their hard work and dedication. High Five Rewards, our online recognition platform, let’s team members send peer recognition or birthday/anniversary wishes via eCards and leaders can give points (1 point = $1) for going above and beyond expectations; these points are redeemable for merchandise or gift cards. In addition to this perk, BayCare awards every team member through an annual bonus based on achieving system-wide goals. To thank team members for their hard work and exceptional service for the year, everyone gets 25 High Five Rewards points deposited in their account during the holidays. Additionally, team members who reach five years of service, and every five years thereafter, attend a special luncheon with their manager and may select a gift from a recognition catalog.
  • Free Tax Prep Available: BayCare partnered with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) to offer our team members who earned less than $66,000 last year help preparing their taxes. Eligible team members can have their federal tax return prepared, e-filed and direct deposited for free by IRS-certified volunteers.
  • Discount Opportunities to Make Life Easier: The BayCare Choice Rewards Program provides one-stop shopping on products and services at discounted prices. Examples include financial services such as banking and home and auto financing; discounted products, including personal computers, automobiles, consumer electronics and unique gifts; and travel packages, including special rates on hotels, rental cars, resorts, spas and cruises. • e-Recycling and Information Protection: In today’s age, you can’t be too careful with your personal data, which is why BayCare is proud to offer the annual BayCare Secure e-Recycling and Document Shredding events, which provide a way for BayCare team members to securely dispose of their sensitive personal documents and electronic devices. How to Get Hired

We asked BayCare Health System, Inc. for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

When looking to hire new team members, we look for individuals who embrace our Mission, Vision, Values and Culture. Successful team members demonstrate a positive can-do attitude, have the ability to adapt to change and are a team player. We use behavioral-based interview questions that are then validated through a reference assessment to determine whether potential new hires will be a good cultural fit. BayCare also utilizes a collaborative interview process, where hiring authorities and recruiters work together to determine job fit. Our leaders are trained in interviewing skills and provided approved questions to assist in assessing skills and cultural fit.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

We always encourage candidates to complete their application so we have a clear understanding of their background and knowledge. Attaching a cover letter that tells why they are interested in a particular position at BayCare also adds value and is a way to give insight to what they have to offer and what might make them a great cultural fit. It is equally important, though, for candidates to apply for positions for which they are qualified and meet the minimum requirements. The BayCare Talent Acquisition team attends many local job fairs, which is a great opportunity to connect with our recruiters. Plus, we encourage prospective candidates to follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media channels to keep engaged with what BayCare is doing for our team and for our community.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Yes, as a national nursing shortage looms over the industry, we will continue to focus on both graduate nurses and experienced RNs. Medical Technologist is also an area of focus due to the aging workforce in this area. As we focus on the Ambulatory and HomeCare needs, skilled and licensed professionals will be in much higher demand. As we expand our urgent care services and physician office practices, we also anticipate the increased need for additional Certified Medical Assistants. We will have a dedicated focus on cultural fit and will require candidates to view our new Applicant Video to ensure they understand not only our culture and opportunities but also our high expectations and what it means to be a BayCare team member.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

We have several avenues for potential candidates to learn more. Our BayCare website is www.baycarecareers.org, and they can also follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Glassdoor and Twitter.  All job fairs are advertised on our website, allowing the opportunity for prospective candidates to meet our recruiter face to face. Another suggestion would be to search the recruiters on LinkedIn and start the conversation there, as we always encourage candidates to start connecting and building relationships.
