How to Get Hired

We asked BayCare Health System for some inside information on how to get hired at the organization. Here is what they had to say.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?

When looking to hire new team members, we look for individuals who embrace our Mission, Vision, Values and Culture. Successful team members demonstrate a positive can-do attitude, have the ability to adapt to change and are a team player. Our patients, physicians and team members are the most important part of BayCare and our culture. The BayCare Values of trust, respect, responsibility, excellence and dignity reflect our responsibility to achieve health care excellence for our communities. We also determine whether a candidate would be a good cultural fit by using behavioral-based interview questions and validated through a reference assessment. BayCare has a collaborative interview process where hiring authorities and recruiters work together to determine job fit, and our leaders are trained in interviewing techniques and provided approved questions to assist in determining skills and cultural fit.

What can prospective employees do to get your attention?

BayCare has many school affiliations whereby students have the ability to do clinical rotations or internships, thus allowing BayCare the opportunity to observe first-hand the students cultural fit and abilities. Our recruitment strategy also includes team member referrals as well as social media avenues, where candidates can follow us and start building relationships with our recruiters and team members. Our robust Applicant Tracking System allows us to score candidates based on their level of experience, education and preferred skills, and attending job fairs and community events allows for networking and establishing new relationships. Potential team members should also convey compassion, a commitment to outstanding customer service standards, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect and align with our mission and values.

Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?

Yes. As a nursing shortage continues, we will continue to focus on both graduate nurses and experienced RNs.  Medical Technologist is an area of focus due to the aging workforce in this area, and we continue to have an ongoing need for HIM Coders. We’ll also be focused on home care clinicians and therapists due to the shift in healthcare services moving more from hospital services to home services. With the expansion of urgent care services and the acquisition of physician office practices, we are also seeing the need for additional Certified Medical Assistants. Outstanding service providers are also a key area of focus.

What should interested candidates do to find out more and get started?

We have several avenues for potential candidates to learn more. Our BayCare website is www.baycarejobs.com, and they can also follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  All job fairs, which are advertised on our website and in various publications, allow prospective candidates the opportunity to meet our recruiters face-to-face as well.
