  • Onsite Gym Facilities: BHG offers employees a workout break during business hours. The corporate headquarters features a 2,500 sq. ft. onsite gym with bikes, free-weights, weight machines and shower facilities, a variety of group fitness classes and one-on-one coaching. The financial headquarters and national marketing office have an equivalent onsite gym facility with group classes like yoga, spin and circuit training through its relationship with Metro Fitness gym, where employees also have a company-paid gold membership. The national sales office in midtown Manhattan provides employees with company-paid gym membership at the New York Health & Racquet Club. Employees also compete in challenges like the Biggest Loser Contest and in organized athletic events like Mud Runs and the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge.
  • Personal Trainer and Licensed Nutritionist On Staff: BHG has a personal trainer and certified nutritionist on staff, who coaches group training sessions, one-on-one coaching as well as provides weight-loss and disease management guidance. Employees also have access to optional HRAs (health risk assessments) thought its health insurance provider.
  • Fully Catered Onsite Cafeteria: BHG’s corporate headquarters has a fully catered onsite cafeteria, the BHG Café, serving fresh, healthy meal options. With the company’s meal card, employees can buy 4 meals and get the fifth meal on BHG.
  • Employee Recognition and Bonuses: On a monthly and annual basis, the company presents trophies and bonuses to employees who demonstrate company values such as work ethic, teamwork and helpfulness, typical awards like employee of the month and department MVP, and as well as superlatives like “most athletic” and “most fashionable.”
  • Company and Department Outings: BHG has sponsored big company events such as a Miami Dolphin’s game and tailgate, the annual BHG night at the races at Vernon Downs casino, annual holiday party and celebrity-style awards ceremony at the Turning Stone casino this year, a Syracuse Crunch hockey game and lunch in downtown Syracuse to watch the NCAA men’s basketball tournament (March Madness). A variety of team-building events are also hosted at the department level, from apple picking and volunteering at the homeless shelter to group painting classes and happy hours.
  • Organizational Health Initiative: BHG’s organizational health initiative involves helping colleagues work together more fluidly, nurturing healthy relationships among co-workers and creating a sense of unity among the BHG team. BHG employs a zero-tolerance policy for social cliques and water-cooler talk and maintains an open-door policy that makes executives accessible to employees. Departments are periodically brought together for personality type assessments to discuss work style differences. BHG employees are taught to be honest with each other and willing to present concerns in a respectful, beneficial manner. Each executive office and conference room has a small elephant figurine on the table to remind employees to never leave a meeting with an “elephant in the room.” BHG reinforces its core values by distributing printed materials and “quizzing” employees.
  • Continuing Education and Professional Advancement: BHG covers the cost of many courses, certifications, seminars and licensing opportunities so employees can stay up-to-date in their own areas of expertise or develop new professional skills. In 2015, the company invested $157,000 in external training and development for employees.
  • Charity Involvement: The company offers numerous opportunities for employees to serve in the community, with a special focus on healthcare-related charities like the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. The company and its employees support these and other organizations through giving and participation, also by utilizing its social media audience to raise awareness, as was the case during its 2015 diabetes awareness campaign, its 2014 breast cancer and men’s health awareness campaigns. BHG partnered with Food For The Poor in 2015 to send classroom furniture to schools in Jamaica and backpacks and school supplies to orphans in Haiti.   • Motivational Speaker Events: The company periodically arranges guest speaker events with motivational speakers to help keep BHG’s team inspired. In 2016, our goal is to continue to build our systems and infrastructure in order to have the necessary tools to keep BHG at the forefront of the financial services industry. We will be targeting strong technical talent in order to continue adding to our IT, Operations and Analytics teams. Based on our current growth and the increased demand for BHG’s financial solutions and insurance services, we will be continuously hiring within our Sales and Sales Support departments, as well.
